I grew up watching japanese animation along with all sorts of television programs - part of why I somehow got english as a primary language.
My first anime is a super robot show that, despite all its ridiculousness is the first show of its kind to take on serious themes: Choudenji Machine Voltes V. Along with Mazinger Z, Tossho Daimos and many others, I developed a taste for mecha.
When Super Dimension Fortress Macross came to the Philippines in 1984, it was love at first sight. I celebrate my love for Macross and other (mostly mecha) anime in my website: We Remember Love.

Well, certain shows and books are difficult to properly review on a purely technical basis, as quality in this respect is not what the show/book itself is aiming at. At such times, and at times when a discussion on the technical merits leads to one being undecided, a more personal take can sometimes tip the scales.
And when such a personal reflection is well-written and stays close enough to the material under review for the link to be easily seen, well, I can only be glad to have read it and take it into consideration when looking at the subject again.
And now I'm a bit at a loss concerning how to finish this comment without sounding either too blunt or too sappy, so I guess I should say that I hope to find more of such reflections in the spotlights whenever appropriate.

As I feel I shouldn't post this in the relevant spotlight thread in CnC, I'll do it on your profile:
You just managed to convince me of voting 'yes' for Solanin come the re-vote this week-end. The review on your site to the point and personal - and far too true to life for comfort. Thank you for that: I like being convinced one way or another by some well-placed words.

Hi, I just would like to tell you that your list tags make very interesting reading. I fully agree with your Gurren Lagann assessment.

I'm probably gonna change my some of my ringtones to TTGL songs. "Ro Ro Fight the POWAH!" What an awesome soundtrack !
Might want to check out the reviews my friends Skadi & Tehnominator wrote for the series. The two of them and my wife ALL had very different levels of satisfaction with the series. Alot of it centered around the same characters and moments in the series. I found the treatment of Yoko & Nina to be something they all cared about.
Since the new mecha pickings are basically nil, I plan on studying the classics. Gunbuster, finally finishing VOTOMS (which has been a project of mine since i joined MAL) & re-watching Gundam 0080.
I saw your new post for TM 8.0 and can't wait to read it. Hopefully I'll be able to SPAM your blogs again soon. :-)

Pray for me, I can't help my curiousity. I'm diving in feet first for the final arc of Kare Kano.

Absolutely loved TM 8.0 this week. It was a bit weak in the last 2 weeks but they did some amazing stuff today. This is proving to be a good anime summer of 2009!

You know the thing about it is I watched a little bit of the Japanese dub, then saw the English. In this case I'm going to be perfectly honest, the English dub is better. Especially with Liam Neeson as Mr. Fujimoto (I swear that man can do no wrong). A lot of people complain that Ponyo was voiced by Miley Cyrus' little sister and Sasuke by a Jonas baby, but they did a good job, and thats all that matters.
As far as the plot holes are concerned, they there when you think about it afterwards, but as long as you didn't notice while watching the movie, then they're not important as far as I'm concerned (and I most certainly did not notice).

Hey GhostLightning it's been awhile. I saw Ponyo in theatres last night and I wanted to know what you thought of it.

I manage to have a look at both your links. Like always, I enjoy reading your thoughts and the rest of the comments from others as well. One thing that was interesting is mentioning the book "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" (haven't read actually) and bringing up a comparison in Bakemonogatari when it came to Senjougahara's weight being light as a feather.
Also when you reply to a comment in the episode 3 blog about Senjougahara being very attractive I actually had a good laugh at that one, though I can agree with you on that. Not only can I appreciate Senjougahara's great character development, she certainly makes the image of eye candy look good especially when it came to causal wear in episode 3. Oh heck, might as well say that she has a sexy voice (Saito Chiwa does well with her seiyu performance) and cute smile as well. *ahem*
Araragi (although I have to say Senjougahara help brought some development to his character) does fairly well in performing his role as the protaganist based on delivering a few laughs to the audience such as the dance/fight scene with Mayoi in episode 5.
It would be very interesting to see how the relationship of Araragi and Senjougahara develops as they are certainly fitting to be a good duo. ^^

Well I decided to check out the Bakemonogatari series and I was quite impressed with this series. From all that I witness it could be the best series made from Shaft Productions, especially since I have been hearing mix views from Maria-Holic and the ef series (haven't seen them yet). One of the most interesting things I witness in Bakemonogatari is how creative, entertaining, hilarious, random, and daring the dialogue interactions were between the characters. I'm actually curious on how the remaining nine episodes will go for myself.
I'm not so sure about your thoughts on the animation as I felt it was awkward at times from the beginning but it tends to work well with the dialogue interactions that happen between the characters.
Also this is possibly the most premature action I ever done as a MAL member, but I decided to add Hitagi Senjougahara among my favorite characters list as I found her to be a brilliantly developed tsundere female for several reasons:
1) Senjougahara obviously is not your usual tsundere female character. When it comes to witnessing stereotype tsundere characters they usually are resistant with romantic feelings (along with showing signs of vulnerability from those feelings), so it absolutely blew me away that she confess to Koyomi Araragi in episode 5 (especially when it was that early in the series). Her lack of shyness along with her daring attempts of being bold is something that seems to stand out from her character.
2) Her interactions are often entertaining to witness along with them being funny to see. The one drawback viewers may have with Senjougahara is she can be a b**ch at times. Despite that, it seems to help flesh out her character and Araragi's character as well with their dialogue interactions.
3) Her backstory turned out to be different and interesting based on it being unusual. Usually when I think of typical sad backstories from characters, it involves losing someone close to them or committing suicide.
4) Maybe this is just coming from myself, but I really like the fact that there is a explanation on why Senjougahara consider Araragi as a romantic interest. It somehow makes the relationship stand out and be a lot more meaningful to the viewer. When it comes to witnessing different relationships in anime series, there usually isn't an explanation on why they hit it off. Senjougahara tests Araragi quite often to see if he is someone that she can trust along with possibly being a romantic interest. ^^
