Favorite anime this season for those who care DANSAI BUNRI CRIME EDGE. I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS I LOVE IT.
"Time is the cruelest kindness" Yuuko Kouzuki (Muv Luv)
Takeru's endgame speech (MUV LUV), translated below.
I had a dream.
A dream of people living innocently, without knowing the meaning of peace.
I had a dream.
A dream of people risking their lives and living for the sake of protecting something.
I think...only God knows which it was.
But I still ask myself...was there something I could've done?
I wonder, was that why I came to this world in the first place?
If this was my unavoidable destiny,
then what exactly was I to this world?
Sad partings...the fate of humanity...and my own...
I still wonder if I could've changed them.
If I'd had a strong will to protect what I was meant to protect...from the start...
Then maybe there was something only I could've done.
I think there was.
So...so...
At the very least...I'll live on...and try to protect everything.
I want to survive and protect this planet everyone gave up on.
I think I can do that.
The people left behind...the feelings left behind...the people I love...
I'll protect them all with my life.
I should be able to do something.
There must be something.
Humanity won't lose.
I'll never lose.
Because...I'm here...
Because...I'm...still here..
Oh yeah, this game really has been pulling through after the Coup. Everything between Takeru's brutal character development to the way the plot moves is insanely well done and interesting. The part I've found most enjoyable so far was seeing Sumika revert to her usual cheerful self later on, and the kind of features she has as a 00 unit too. I should be getting to the first hive attack at Sadogashima soon as well, can't wait to see how that turns out. I'm still fairly interested in the mystery behind the Beta as well.
Well, Muv-Luv isn't anywhere near as long as MLA, so you reading it slowly was probably due to a lack of interest. I think it took me about 5 weeks to finish the whole thing, but I didn't entirely take my time reading it like I have with MLA either. I did complete every route, including all the routes at the end of Unlimited (although I did skim through those at some point due to how redundant they were). I have slowed down a little bit on MLA though, but mostly because of the tedious infodumps involving how the mechs work and details on the Beta. But the small break I took just recently should be enough to get me recharged enough to continue reading it at a better pace. I still want to see how this story ends, and I've still got a great load of questions on about this VN as well. Biggest one being how Takeru became a causality conductor.
Then you should have definitely seen an OP by then. Not sure how that happened, but it sounds like an installation issue. I'm not so sure I'd be able to help you out if that's the case, you'll probably have to ask someone a little more tech savy. Try this thread and see if there's anything in it that might solve your problem. And I definitely recommend adding the untroll patch if you haven't already, those dolphins are annoying. (-_-)
It's listed as a 30-50 hour VN, so I believe you, lol. I plan on getting into Ever17 after I've finished MLA too, I've heard some really great things about it. I also started MLA last week, it is really impressive so far. The plot is very interesting and the character development is really well done too.
Right now I'm at the part where Meiya decided to talk to the rebels in place of the shogun and Takeru decided on helping her. That scene where he gave the speech was pretty awesome to me, it really highlighted some significant changes in his character. I'll be starting it again later today and see how it turns out.
A lot of people hated Lucia during the common route. I personally thought she was hilarious, but that's my opinion. She will make a shift from stereotypical tsundere to classic tsundere when you get to her route though, and she becomes a lot more likable.
The Fate route is really hard to power through (I know, I've tried). My best advice to you would be to put in a limited number of hours into it per day and take breaks in between, lol. But it should be more easy to marathon once you get to the 2nd half of UBW. It'll all be worth it once you get to HF too, that route is epic.
What scene are you at in Hoshimemo? If I remember correctly, the OP plays after you meet Mare. That scene does take a little while to get to (I think).
I liked Kotori's route. It had a better semblance to Key's regular stories than the other routes and it was pretty damn sad too. The romance is definitely there, but it's not what I'd call an ideal romance either. There weren't many developmental moments between Kotori and Kotarou and it was a bit of a stale relationship. I will say that the chemistry between those two was pretty good though, but I don't think the writer had intended for it to be a romance driven story as it was mostly there to introduce the main themes of the central story. But my main attraction to Kotori's route was the family based drama and the introduction of the plot.
I'm guessing that you're not looking forward to Lucia's route? Well, there aren't many people that like her character in the common route so I can understand, but she does have a change of character once you start on her route and becomes so much more likeable. Her route was very well written, the romance was fantastic, and there were some pretty fun climaxes that were very well executed. The only thing that could have made it better was the way that Kotarou had handled a particular situation, but was still a great read; the best character route in the game.
Well, only Kotori's and Akane's route have a direct relation to the meta plot, but Lucia's route does make use of certain concepts of it, and Chihaya's and Shizuru's route have very little relevance. You could practically skip either of those routes and it wouldn't hinder your knowledge of Moon/Terra other than a few minor aspects. I personally wouldn't recommend skipping them since they are fairly enjoyable in their own right, but you could if you wanted to. Although just about everyone hates Chihaya's route due to it's lack of writing quality. Shizuru's route suffers almost as much, but can be more easily acceptable if you like Shizuru and are okay with bittersweet endings (you will need knowledge from Chihaya's route in order to understand the ending too).
I didn't like Terra so much, but only because of the storytelling methods. It was, by all means, a great a well-written story, but it just wasn't for me. You'll either love it or dislike it depending on your tastes.
Ah, well, I can't say that the doctor doesn't have a prevalent role in the game so you might still like her. And Saya is a really interesting character, she's my 2nd favorite in SnU. I have Fuminori as my favorite because of his insane character and his awesome VA (it is Kyousuke's VA after all). But there's a lot more to Saya than what you'd initially expect. Does the first few moments of the game scare you that much? I'll admit that I did get a little startled with how much was thrown in right off the bat, but it wasn't until later on that the game started giving me the chills. I can't say that I've ever been scared of it though, but it'd take some god-like storytelling for me to actually get scared at anything. If nothing else, the fact that it was so fucked up excited the hell out of me. Yeah, you could say I've been won over with Saya. :P Sorry you have to have my profile pic in your comments section though. ;_;
Ah nice, so what do you think of Hoshimemo so far? I think it has a pretty solid common route as far as they usually go. Some of the character routes do have some mild polarization to them so you'll either somewhat like them or dislike them, but the others are pretty good and the final route has a pretty high general opinion to it. I regard the true route of Hoshimemo as its greatest redeeming quality to the lackluster character routes before it, it's a very nice and heartwarming read.
I had actually planned to get into Ever17 is my 2nd to next visual novel, but then I had a recent recommendation that really pushed my interest for the Muv-Luv series. I've decided to pick that one up next once I finished Kamidori (really fun game btw). I read a few lines into it and it really does come off as cheesy and cliched as many others claim it to be, but I thought it was pretty cute how much they build on that aspect of it, lol. I may not like it so much as a serious VN and I'm pretty sure that I'll love Alternative as much as a regular fan, but I doubt I'll dislike the first one. It gave a good first impression to me.
Ah, thanks for the information. I heard from another guy recently that ML isn't all that bad, so I suppose it really depends on the individual's taste. Personally, I don't find mind a happy slice of life story as long as the characters in it are likable [SOL is actually among one of my favorite genres]. It's also pretty much impossible for me to not give MLA a try eventually considering the sheer number of praise it gets from readers everywhere (it must be ranked #1 on vndb for a reason, right?). :p
I highly recommend Saya no Uta, btw. Unless you absolutely detest dark stories in general, you should be able to enjoy the twisted romance of this VN. It essentially got me interested in trying out other VNs.
Oh I see. I thought a patch for the common route was already finished?
Nice find! So does that mean that there are Hoshimemo staffs working on this? I know that it's a different company, but (going off the manga) I could see this style of work being right up their ally. The art is very similar too.
I see. I don't mind slice of life at all (I tend to like it quite a bit actually), I just wasn't expecting it to be like that.
Damn that really sucks. >.< I tend to keep a back-up of my save data for just in case and usually replace it every time I clear a route. But that really sucks. :(
It'd be a pain having to go back and unlock every friend again. >.<
Any plans on playing Dracu-riot once the patch is finished? I'm reading the manga right now and it is pretty damn interesting actually. The girls in it are really fun and I like the plot too. I plan on getting into this right when the patch is finished. http://vndb.org/v8213 http://staircasesubs.com/dracu-riot/
No, I didn't read M-L yet, the first part is holding me back because I'm rarely in the mood for slice-of-life stuff (and when I am, there's always something better at hand).
As for what to read next, you can't go wrong with any of those VN, so choose whatever you like. F/SN requires a LOT of time (same with Tsukihime), so pick them when you are ready to spend many hours reading.
If you are in the mood for something calm (boring?) Katahane and E17 will be good, as they both have a slow start.
HoshiMemo and Kanon are typical nakiges. Kanon would be great for winter, but the anime adaptation was very good, so it won't be that different. If you have watched it recently, you may consider reading the VN later.
As for Rewrite, you may wait and read it when the translation will be finished, you have so many choices that you may pick something else for now.
Ah, that's fine, I pretty much have a solid idea on what to expect from the Muv-Luv series. I know the anime is only an adaption of a side story so I won't hold it against the source for its mediocrity. I didn't think it would start off with a regular setting though, but I guess I can live with that if I like the characters.
I didn't like the Fate route so much. It wasn't bad, but not really all that what I'd call good. I honestly didn't start liking it until the 2nd half of UBW and HF was orgasmic. There are some pretty amazing moments in HF and it had some really beefy plot material too. The storytelling was excellent, it had a lot of really epic moments. The characterization throughout the game is the best I've ever seen in anything too, it will even go into the stories of some of the support characters too. The only character that the VN that I'd say is generally weak in that aspect is Gilgamesh, but he's pretty awesome with just his personality alone, lol.
Hoshizora is really nice actually. Well, I can't say that the character routes are all too impressive, but the true route is really good and it's worth playing the whole game just for that alone. I would give an honorable mention to Chinami's route since it does cover a lot of family history with the MC and it's pretty well written too, but I do not like Chinami, lol. I guess any of the other character routes are all right if you actually like their characters (I liked Kosame's route pretty much because it was within my tastes), but none of them really stand out in terms of romance development and they can get generic to a degree. But the true route is really awesome. It's a really sad story (almost Key-tier) and it gives you the greatest sense of conclusion out of all the routes since it basically wraps everything up really well. The art is so-so, some CGs look really great, but others aren't quite so sharp. The sprites are a bit more limited than I'd like them to be. The characterization in the final route is fantastic and the plot is not too bad either, it starts off interesting early on and it has a very satisfying ending.
Oh really? I've seen the series receive a lot of praise from, not only the fanbase on vndb, but from a few friends as well. I will need to try it out some time in the future. Well, I've still got the first game on low priority because of the length of both that and it's sequel. How does the story start off though? Is it an easy read at the start or does it take a while to get better? I was able to force myself through the first route in the Fate/Stay Night VN, but I hate doing stuff like that. Having a hard time committing to Katawa Shoujo because of the art and the fact that it's not very enjoyable during Hanako's route either.
Have you played Lucia's route yet? Not many people like her at first either, but she does have an excellent route. I had an initial like for her in the common route because I always get a laugh at angry tsunderes, lol, but I came to really like her character when her route started. Her cute side is something that is just beyond amazing and there is a very awesome story in her route too! It is the best route I've played so far and it's a favorite for many others as well. You'll know once you get there.
On a side note: I'm a little bit of a masochist so I wouldn't mind letting her hit me. ^^
Haha okay. As for the Yashiro thing, she gets something in Altered Fable if you're into that. I'm not, so that's something that I'll skip over whenever it's translated.
I'm reading Swan Song now, it's a pretty good VN so far. I like the post-disaster setting even though it brings back bad memories from my horrible experience last year.
