Holy shit, The Tragedy of Man looks mindblowingly good. I've been interested in checking out some obscure western animations for a while so I think these two will be a good place to start. Will definetely watch both of them.

If better in execution means a sort of more polished look then you're probably right. But if anything it might end up disappointing because Shinbo's shenanigans do seem more thinly scattered, especially in the third season, which I probably like the least. Then again I really only got properly attached to the show in x365 (which is my favorite) so sticking with it might help your attitude.

Oh I see now. Have you checked out Death Parade? It might meet your selective criteria. Also to me Rolling Girls is reminiscent of Kyousougiga but I can't guarantee you'll like it. Winter seasons usually aren't so great (2010 being a big exception) so it's a good time to watch great shows out of the backlog like you and I are doing. I have Kare Kano downloaded but I'm going through Nana right now (also a shoujo), which as me hooked so far.

Also I read pspecter's comment below, and I did want to pitch in and say H-sketch does actually get better, but only in its execution of what it is already accomplishing (being a soothing and elating show) rather than in what it tries to do. That said, I don't think everyone would like Hidamari even if they gave it a generous chance. If it doesn't affect you emotionally then it's going to be a boring experience for sure.

If you ever decide to give it another chance don't listen to people who tell you it gets better. You'll only get your expectations shattered. If you're one of the people who like to point out 'nothing happening' as a dealbreaker in an anime, then keep in mind that Hidamari doesn't change in this regard. You do get a fair amount of drama here and there and it's handled pretty well but the resolution always ends up giving you that warm and fuzzy feeling. Not a hint of suffering left anywhere. The artsy stuff's mostly Shinbo's signature and it does make the show a bit more lively. If you do decide to proceed anyway then taking your time is probably a good idea too. It took me several years to finish all the seasons and I still read a random manga chapter here and there when I happen to stumble upon it somewhere.
