it is always nice to find people with similar taste. thank you!
The thing is with After the Rain, I was looking forward to the romance aspect because its a unique premise, to me the ending seems like it was done for the sake of "playing it safe" or something, because u know, the age gap is controversial. So in my opinion, there's three alternative ways this anime could have ended which would have been better. I will explain them below:
2) That would not happen but instead Tachibana would acknowledge that her love for him wasn't genuine, it isn't possible for them to date because Kondou's life would be negatively effected & accept that she was glad to meet him since they helped each other grow- she would end up doing her rehab & getting back to track and he would start writing again.
3) The same as option two, except she wouldn't go back to track but instead find a new passion for books & writing.
The show chose to go with a version of option 2). Of course I was disappointed. But in the end I chose to judge the anime for what it is. In truth, the change of the story direction was natural & didn't feel forced or messed up. However, since the creators chose option 2) they at the very least owe us good execution, but it wasn't good enough.
- When they both came to their final decisions to get back into their passions of writing & running, it happened at the very end & was quite rushed. Especially for Tachibana, through the whole show she acted so indifferent towards the issue (including her conflict with Haruka) & was hardly giving it any of her attention, she always had a poker face, she hardly showed emotion towards the issue. She only decided to do rehabilitation & go back to track in the second half of the last episode.
And for Kondou, we needed to see more of his writing/literature works & dive deeper into it, but again the show didn't do that.
- We didn't get to see her do rehabilitation/her journey towards recovery & run again, not even an epilogue!
- Kondou's family issues weren't explored, except for a five minute explanation at some point. It would have been much better if they gave his son & ex-wife more screen time.
- There is no real reason for them not to get together. It wasn't convincing. We could kind of see that Kondou had feelings for her & she never acknowledged why she shouldn't be in a relationship with him/ it was just a crush she had. Or, that she won't try to pursue him anymore. None of that happened.
- Option 1) would have been much more fitting as we know that her feelings for him can't just be reduced to a crush. Not only that, but the fact that she would have been the best person for Kondou to be in a relationship with. The reason why he got divorced was because he was neglecting his family as a result of his passion for writing. But he failed to realize that Tachibana was the perfect match for him because she's the one who made him go back to writing & she would be more than glad to read his work & support him (as she told him). Moreover, this could have been further progression for Kondou, for him to acknowledge that his age shouldn't stop him from getting into a relationship with her.
People have said that they are glad the show became more than just romance, something deeper. But why couldn't be both romance as well as discovering themselves? why one or the other?
- Option 3) would have been a good idea along with option 1). Because as I mentioned above, she hardly showed concern for the whole track & field dilemma, so it seemed more like she didn't care. Including being indifferent toward Haruka's breakdown. We could see she started to have an interest in literature but again it wasn't explored. It would have made her more of an interesting character & added more to her.
Hypocrite.
I hope your day is going well
I remember talking to you briefly before.
I noticed that you have After the Rain in your favourites, I also really like that anime. I just love romance in general, but unique romance anime like this one are even better! I was so glad when I first found it. I love the dynamic of Masami and Akira, and I quite like Masami's personality, hes like kind of a rare anime main character, I really appreciate him. I was just a bit annoyed that nothing happened in the end :')
But the anime was still a positive experience and had several good scenes, what was your favourite scene? :)
I wanted to say, Im also an aspiring writer!! I just enjoy writing a lot when Im doing it,
what kind of stuff do you write?
Snow white with the red hair is also another great romance! its deff one of my faves, I just love the communication between the male and female lead, and I love both of them as individual characters, the male lead id so mature and wholesome! And of course Shirayuki's strong will and bravery is admirable, I also love that shes a herbalist, Im planning to learn more about it on my own. I just love herbs and holistic medicine in general!
Im always looking for good romance anime, so dont hesitate to recommend me some stuff, I will also surely do the same too!
