Going into this series I had absolutely no expectations, I went into it blind and I think that helped my enjoyment of the series.
Story: The story's pretty simple in the beginning. Similar to Gantz, the main characters die in the first episode and get the chance to live again. However they have to defend themselves against the demons that now plague the land, known as Septemptrians. The story really gets rolling about halfway through, the ending is especially awesome. It reminds me of Wolf's Rain in a lot of ways.

love the designs of all the demons and creatures. They all looked badass and awesome. Especially Cerberus and Byakko.
Sound: This is a sentai dub, so naturally I enjoyed it for the most part. I'm pretty much a sentai fanboy. I shamelessly bought the series blind because one of my favorite actors Greg Ayres was in it. He played a very good Daichi. Peter Poole as Hibiki was especially awesome, he's even a newer voice actor. That makes me very excited for his future rolls. And then Jessica Boone played Io, and did a fantastic job. I loved her in Princess Tutu, as well. I also like Illich Guardiola's role as Alcor. He's another talented actor with a very unique voice, he's easy to pick out in a show. John Gremillion as Yamato was a surprise. He did so much better than Hakuro in Utawarerumono. It's great to see how he's grown.
My only problem with the dub is that the minor character performances were a bit bland. That could be the lack of character developement, however. Which is the result of time restraints.
The opening and ending themes were catchy. I can't get the opening out of my head, currently. It made it hard to get to sleep last night. Totally going to find them and listen to them over again on youtube.
Character: With the exception of the three main characters, the rest of the cast was mostly uninteresting. I only really got attached to our main leads. As previously stated, the supporting cast struggled to stand out for me.
Enjoyment: In the beginning I only somewhat enjoyed it. It was enough to keep me watching, but I wasn't dying to watch more. Only when I got to the last half of the series did I really find myself liking the characters. It made me cry, which I wasn't expecting at all.
Another thing I enjoyed was the philosophy at the end of the series. I won't go into too much detail,, but that was the most interesting aspect of the series. The biblical references also added to the philosophy of living and wanting to survive.
Overall: This series surprised me immensely. Especially one based on a video game. I enjoyed the story and main cast, and the dub was solid, albeit had it's flaws. If you're going into this show without expectations, you'll probably enjoy it. I haven't played the video game franchise it's based off of, so I can't say if that's a reason to watch it. It's at least worth checking out in that case. If you're looking for a fun show that gets darker as it goes on, and if you like philosophy, I would definitely recommend Devil Survivor 2. I haven't written a review on a series in some time, so bare with me please.
I found Beck highly enjoyable. I watched it a year after buying the new S.A.V.E. edition box set from FUNimation.
The story is about a boy named Yukio Tanaka, who's on the surface, just an average quiet boy. But inside, he has a dream. Don't we all? He encounters a strange dog one day, and saves him from some kids that were trying to beat him with a blunt object. It's not graphic, they were tormenting him. him and they form a friendship.
Ryusuke was formerly in a band, but has since broken up. One member of it, Eiji, said he'd find more members and become a more successful band than him. Ryusuke does the same, and eventually, Yukio "Koyuki", joins the band too. He has a passion for music, but has never played an instrument before. He learns to play guitar though, and joins the band.
There's a lot more going on, and plenty of other characters. You could sum it up very simply: Boy joins a band and tries to become famous. But Beck isn't that simple. It's got a lot of characters with different reasons for why they want to reach their dreams, and you get to see them grow as not only band members, but as friends.
My favorite part of Beck was the theme. As a man aspiring to become a writer, a career somewhat hard to get into that doesn't pay well, I found myself really relating to these characters. It's all about following your dreams, even when people tell you to give up. If I've learned anything from this series, it's to not give up.
Another random thing I want to say about the series is that the music is incredibly addicting. I still have "Moon on the Water" and "Face" stuck in my head and I watched this series a couple weeks ago. It's truly an amazing series, and I highly recommend watching the dub. A lot of people give FUNi flack for their dubs. I'll admit, even I do sometimes, but this one is one of the truly good ones. Greg Ayres, Brina Palencia, Justin Cook (who raps in this...yes, Yusuke Urameshi raps....nuff said).
Please, check this series out, it's excellent!

Dokkoida?! is the story of a young man named Suzuo who is struggling to find a job. He gets turned down by every place of buisiness he goes to, until he meets a young girl named Kosuzu. She tells him that she works at a toy company, and if he tries on this power suit she'll pay him money. He thinks this is all just a game, and since she's offering money he needs, he doesn't refuse. Suddenly an old man in a robot appears and starts to destroy the city. The little girl tells Suzuo to put on the

suit, and when he does this, he becomes the intergalactic superhero, Dokkoida. What's strange is that the heroes and the villains both work for the same company. And they end up living together in the same house.
If you couldn't tell, this series is a satire of comic book super heroes. You meet a lot of different heroes and villains in this series. This anime is mostly 12 episodes of complete hillarity and craziness.
The artstyle is very cartoony, which fits the series well considering it's about superheroes. The colors are very bright and bouncy which fits the mood of the series.
The opening is a very fun and bouncy song. I listened to it over and over again after watching this series. The voice acting is great as well. There are many great Vancouver voice actors in this series. Such as, Brad Swaile, Paul Dobson, Ted Cole, and Nicole Bouma. The quality of the sound was great as well, I could hear things clearly and understood everything that was said.
The characters in this series are great too. Even though this is a short series they get enough developement for you to care about them and enjoy your time with them.
I enjoyed this series a lot. There's good comedy, and despite some of it being sexual, it's still smart. The characters are fun. The songs are bouncy. And the voice acting is spot-on. I highly recommend Dokkoida?! to anyone looking for a fun comedy series.

Descendants of Darkness is the story of a man named Tsuzuki. He works for an organization of people called Gaurdians of Death. Basically his mission is to go out and solve supernatural mysteries.
The story is very unique and interesting. It's fun to watch and see if you solve the mysteries yourself. And some of them aren't easy to solve. I was thrown for a loop a couple of times.
The art is also very good, but not amazing. The animation can seem a bit odd at times, but it's still good.
The script could have been better. The problem is,

the voice actors had to adapt the script themselves due to bad translations. So at times someone will say something that doesn't seem to fit the situation.
The characters were good, but one of them annoyed the hell out of me. And that was Hisoka, voiced by Liam o' Brian. His lack of emotion in certain situations really got on my nerves. If a little girl got killed wouldn't you feel a little depressed? Not Hisoka! I think this is mostly due to bad voice acting. Liam really could have done a better job conveying emotions than he did in this series.
Overall, I enjoyed this series. It's a nice, short, shonen-ai series, with good mystery and suspense. If you want a short mystery anime, I recommend this one.

Wolf's Rain is the story of four wolves trying to find paradise. It's unclear whether this series takes place in the future or in another world. There are a lot of unclear things about this anime, but to me that adds to the fun of the series. It allows you to make your own conclusions about the plot.
The animation is made by Studio BONES, and as anyone would expect, it's done flawlessly. The art has a dark tone to it, which adds to the mood of the series.

of my favorite Japanese artists. Her music also adds a lot to the series. The songs have a very depressing feel to it, which also adds something great to the series.
The characters in this series are all very enjoyable. Some of them you're going to hate and others you're going to love. There's only one character that annoyed me in this series, Cheza. Cheza is a flower maiden and because of that it's hard to connect to her. The way she talks can get annoying at times. I still felt bad for Cheza, but she's still my least favorite character.
I enjoyed this series from beginning to end. Please note, that this series doesn't end at 26 episodes. You have to watch the 4 episode OVA to get the true ending.
In any case, this is not one of those series that you can just sit down and watch casually. If you want to watch this series, you have to pay attention. There are a lot of hidden meanings and things you can get out of it.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who wants to watch an extremely emotional and eye-opening series.

Let me start off by saying, that this is my favorite manga of all time. I know I give it a perfect score, and there are many reasons for this. Lets start with the story.
This manga takes place in Germany and follows the main character, Dr. Kenzo Tenma, a brilliant brain surgeon. His fiance' is the director of the hospital's daughter. Tenma is torn between following orders from his boss and doing what he thinks is right. go against orders and save the young boy's life. The mayor dies, and he gets demoted, but is finally feeling good about his life, until he realizes he just made the biggest mistake of his life.
The story and art is done by Naoki Urasawa, who has won numerous awards for his manga. Which are much deserved.
I enjoyed every minute of this manga series.
Monster is a thrill ride the whole way. I couldn't stop reading this series, there was never a dull moment.
The characters are all very realistic and have their own unique personalities. There wasn't one character that annoyed me or that I disliked. I cared about what happened to every single one of them.
Dr. Tenma is my favorite character. You can really feel the emotional struggle this character feels. I really feel for him and wish I could help him in his struggle. I look up to him for his bravery, itelligence, and morals. He's one of those characters that makes you realize what it means to be human.
The art in this series is unlike any I've ever seen. It's a very unique art style. To me, it's got more of a realistic look to it than most manga. I can instantly identify Naoki's artwork. Much like a lot of people can recognize Akira Toriyama's art.
These are all the reasons why Monster gets a perfect score from me. I hope you enjoyed my first review and more importantly, pick up Monster. You will not be disappointed.
