'Paripi Koumei' Gets Compilation Movie in March 2024

The official website of the Paripi Koumei (Ya Boy Kongming!) television anime announced a compilation movie, subtitled Road to Summer Sonia, on Wednesday. The movie is a re-edited version of the television anime, featuring new footage, and is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on March 1, 2024.

Produced by P.A. Works, the 12-episode television anime aired in Spring 2022. HIDIVE simulcast the anime worldwide, excluding Asia.

Paripi Koumei adapts Yuuto Yotsuba and Ryou Ogawa's comedy drama manga, which began in Comic Days magazine in December 2019 before transferring to Weekly Young Magazine in November 2021. Kodansha shipped the 15th volume on October 5. The manga has a cumulative 2 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga for digital release in English in May 2021. The 13th volume went on sale on September 19, and the 14th volume is scheduled to be released on December 19.

Synopsis
Zhuge Kongming earned a reputation as one of the greatest tacticians of the Three Kingdoms period of third-century China. Having led his army through countless grueling victories, Kongming falls gravely ill during the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. The weariness and regret stemming from the seemingly never-ending war catch up to him, and as he draws his final breath, Kongming wishes that if he were to reincarnate, he would be reborn in a more peaceful era.

His wish comes true, and Kongming wakes up in modern-day Tokyo with a younger body and his memories intact. Thrust into an unfamiliar world, he finds his way into a nightclub and meets Eiko Tsukimi, an aspiring singer whose performance immediately captivates him. Pitying his confusion, Eiko takes Kongming under her wing and teaches him about the current world, which leads to Kongming's interest in contemporary music. Seeing Eiko's immense musical potential, Kongming vows to make the world recognize her and soon takes on the role of her manager.

Unsurprisingly, the music industry is unforgiving to those who make even the slightest mistakes. Still, Kongming is determined to accomplish his goals—even if he must utilize the war stratagems he famously used in his previous life! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

@Memore Agreed! This opening theme was totally a banger, haha. Same goes with the opening itself, which was full of wholesomeness and vibrant colours.

By the way, have you heard the song that was covered in that opening? Because it's a cover of "Bulikirály" by Jolly (the artist is from Hungary).

@RobertBobert Something tells me they'll be just a few scenes meant to make the compilation movie feel more cinematic. But we will see.

@RobertBobert This was my first thought.

I don't mind seeing a compilation movie. I dropped the show, because at some point I felt it began losing its initial charm. At the moment I don't plan to return to it, but who knows? Maybe in the future.

Anyway, I treat this movie as something that might allow me to fully embrace the series without having to watch its remaining episodes. Extra scenes also makis it an attractive entry for both folks like me, or for people who simply want to see a decent, less rushed recap.

Also this movie would be a good refresher as I hardly remember who and why Eiko was squaring off against in the final episodes!

It's just a compilation movie. But knowing compilation movies, it might end with an announcement for Season 2. Or the Season 2 will be greenlit soon after the screening. So I'm actually a bit hyped about it.

Paripi Koumei was like a sleeper hit back when it first aired. I say sleeper hit cause people pretty much forgot about it after it finished airing. I hope a sequel would fix that and give this anime more exposure it deserves.

@Azuchi I don't think anything can top the infamous "Heihachi version" of Tekken 5's opening, where they took the same trailer and just added a picture of Heihachi's face at the end.

More interested in knowing how much is new footage. If we'are talking about a few minutes then there would be no point watching it.
A recap movie is pointless unless they are using it for cash income for possible second season. I wouldn't mind a second season though.
