Kyoto Animation announced an anime film for the Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu (Tsurune: Kazemai High School Archery Club) anime series on Thursday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured) and an announcement promo. The film commemorates the television anime's second anniversary.

Synopsis
"Tsurune"—It's the sound made by the bowstring when an arrow is released, and the sound that inspired Minato Narumiya to learn Kyuudo, a modern Japanese martial art focusing on archery. However, an incident during his last middle school tournament caused him to quit the sport.

But soon, many factors conspire to make Minato take up the bow once again: the start of a new Kyuudo club in his high school, a chance encounter with a mysterious archer, and the support of his childhood friends, Seiya Takehaya and Ryouhei Yamanouchi. Together with his childhood friends and his new teammates, Kaito Onogi and Nanao Kisaragi, Minato rekindles his love for Kyuudo and works with his team toward their aim of winning the prefectural tournament. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Tsurune adapts Kotoko Ayano's school sports novel, which she originally submitted for the 7th Kyoto Animation Awards under the title Yata no Mori Kyuudoujou and won a Special Judge Award in the novel category in May 2016. Kyoto Animation published the first volume through its KA Esuma Bunko imprint in December that year, featuring illustrations by Chinatsu Morimoto. The second volume shipped in February 2018.

Takuya Yamamura (Hibike! Euphonium episode director) helmed the 13-episode television anime in Fall 2018, with Michiko Yokote (Shirobako) handling the series composition, and Miku Kadowaki (Amagi Brilliant Park) designing the characters. The fifth and final home video release bundled a special episode on March 3 last year.

Crunchyroll streamed the show with subtitles as it aired in Japan. Sentai FIlmworks licensed the anime series in October 2018 and released it on Blu-ray on January 28.

Here's hoping for a second season after that too. As much as I like movies and indeed anything's better than nothing, they're just... never enough, especially if I love a series as much as I love this one. (I know I'm being greedy, but lemme just pray xD)

Oh that is indeed lovely news. I saw the video that KyoAni posted celebrating the second anniversary but I didn't know that a movie is in the works. I love Tsurune and always thought that the anime is criminally underrated.

Definitely a surprise but a welcome entry nonetheless!

Fact that KyoAni uploaded the teaser PV on their official YT Channel and official twitter retweeting gives me immense hope that they’ll be taking charge of the Movie, and it honestly pleases me to end end.

Can’t wait for this!

Lovely to see this getting confirmed right after the release of the 2nd Anniversary PV, by the way. I hope we’ll be getting similar treats like these in the near future.
