Synopsis

Blonde, hip, pragmatic and cool, Ginji Amano has the power to generate currents with his body like an electric eel. Brunette, equally hip, bespectacled and rambunctious, Ban Mido has the mystically mysterious 'Evil Eye,' the power to create illusions in the minds of his foes. Together, they are the GetBackers, the best retrieval team in the world. They can get back anything taken from clients, and their success rate is (almost) 100%! However, first they have to get some clients—and soon—or this spry detective duo will starve on the streets!

ill skip the summery since we can all read the above. Anyways 10 out of 10 best manga series ive read. The story has many connections to real life it talked about the christian bible and jesus. It talked about the story of god and his archangels in one part. It made connections with world war 2 in another part. It even has the witch hunt and many others. The art work is very unique its not like a beautiful painting like in series such as ai yori aoshi but are very detailed sketches. Many of the setting are in slums and allyways that is read more

Ok everyone: take a sit and listen up. This be one of my all time fav mangas (and animes) right here-- has been since I was in middle school. But I don't rec it to everyone because of a couple reasons, so here we go:

Story: 10

I love the story, what can I say? There's action, there's comedy, there's plot twists, and some serious stuff going down. I love the supernatural powers, the inclusion of historical aspects (like WWII and witch hunting), I loved the inclusion of tarot cards (in a later arc)-- it's fantastic. A main reason I don't rec it to some of my read more

Get Backers it's a great manga, the anime adaptation fell short to caught up the spirit of the manga, the final arc is one of the best arcs i've seen, there are wonderfull new characters, back story for the known characters, epic fights, and a great ending explaining the world they live in and what the characters seek and enjoy. Overall a enjoyable manga, that shows the bonds of friendship and thrusting one another, give it a shot!

I cam to Getbackers from the anime. A shoujo girl at heart I couldn't believe that my anime club was showing me this series about battling. And yes, it is a series about battling, and retrieving, and all that jazz. But at its very heart it is about relationships, and friendships, and honour.

The story follows the Getbackers, Ban and Ginji. There is an underlying sense of the story moving towards and end, with some completion in mind. Whilst there are a few episodic adventures, the stories are primarily multi-volume, intense and detailed. You learn a lot about the people, their histories, and their friendships. read more

Recommendations

Manga: Black Cat
Both are fantasy-tinged action-centred series about groups of freelancers with unusual areas of expertise. In both series the main characters' backstories become gradually increasingly important, with their attempts to discard their pasts giving way to confrontation and conflict.

Manga: Samurai Deeper Kyo
These two series can be considered "brother" series. They were both serialized around the same time, both ended around the same time and therefore had nearly the same number of volumes. Both series have similar artwork and deal with a group of strong fighters with unique abilities dealing with the nightmares of their past. Getbackers is slightly less serious than SDK.

Manga: Haigakura
Somehow it give off the same feeling as getbackers. Two guy trying to do their job looking for gods, but can't and are totally penniless(sound kind of familiar) the characters are also very much alike with the cute and cheerful partner that have a scary side to them and the one who gets annoy.

Manga: Code:Breaker
The two series are about a group that have special powers, and take on villains like the mobsters and that thing.A group that also have mission,in GB is to take back objects and in CB is to fight off the criminals. Also Akimine Kamijyo and Yuya Aoki are friends in real life, there was a one-shot whem the Samurai Deeper Kyo and GB crew thry to retrive Plue from Rave Master to Mr.Mashima(Hiro Mashima),just a example of their friendship.

Manga: Zombie-Loan
Two uniquely skilled guys and their ever-increasing group of allies work through supernaturally-tinged cases that their unique skill sets permit them to tackle and try to grind down some of their debt. In Zombie-Loan they hunt down zombies that shouldn't be alive; in GetBackers they get back what shouldn't be gone.

Manga: X
These manga have many similarities.
Both started their serialization in the 90’s.
Both have action, drama, tragedy, lots of bishounen, a bit of comedy to lighten up the mood, and can be quite psychological, even though Get Backers has more shounen elements and is less serious than X (and no offence, but Rando Ayamine’s art cannot be compared with the artistic perfection that Clamp reached in X).
They also have several themes in common, such as granting wishes, fighting with ex-friends, protecting the loved ones, and world destruction.
In both there are 2 opposite factions that fight against each other.
