That was the S***!! Probably the best OVA series I've seen, adapted very well to the manga. The last scene was super Epic, I just wish they would've made the manga into a full series!! Oh well, I'll definitely be re-watching this a few times...Urahara Out!!

You guys should definitely read the manga, it really is awesome with detailed art and of course a better story than the OVA.

lots of fun here, but I was hoping that somehow episode 3 would be better than episode 2 and it really didn't deliver a climax to top the car chase.

Oh well, still pretty cool. MyLonesomeCowboy out!?

The plot was quite a generic girls-with-guns story, and in itself not very memorable. However, so is also most nineties' OVAs, and I have learned not to judge them by their plots, but by their presentation.

I enjoyoed the visual style. While the characters where drawn quite generically, the lighting was quite unique; you can easily tell by the lighting alone that the anime takes place in the USA, rather than in Japan.
Even more spectacular was the animation quality; the animation for cars, as well as the characters' clothing were both amazing, and best illustrated in the chaze scene in ep 2.

I'd say this one is a 7/10

Not all shows are fortunate enough to remain as good as they were when you first saw them. Some get better over time; others, like Gunsmith Cats, don't age well at all. Evidently I've outgrown some things, one of them being popcorn shoot-em-ups. It was neat however seeing an anime set in a city that I'm familiar with. Going "oh, that's so-and-so street!", and "I know that building!" was more fun than the show itself.

Side note: Chicago is a very ethnically heterogeneous city, and yet nearly everyone in this show looked quasi-White. There were a couple of Black people sprinkled about, but most of the Black males were bad guys. And the one good one, the cop in the last episode, was immediately killed off after doing something stupid. I thought that was kinda awkward.

I kinda liked Radinov, too bad she died. But damn was she persistent in dying. i guess revenge makes you feel that way. I wish i could read the manga, but hey.

Guns'n girls & cars, America encapsulated. Simple yet effective 90s charadesigns, attention to details (sounds, etc), nice action choreographies.

The perfect one-off adventure to illustrate what the Gunsmith Cats are about. A great vitrine.

Score: 9/10
Enjoyment: 5/5 all along.

@lihle808 What's the problem with the manga?
(in the animation department, there is also the original project: Riding Bean)

April 15, 2020
@Cr4zko You have the original manga: many more cases (+ a semi-recurring criminal), with a few personal chapters, more on Betty and the inspector and the big return of Riding Bean (an over-the-top character invented and loved by Sonoda). It's an incredibly effective manga, making the best out of the typical 90s anime/manga geometrical style (that Sonoda helped to create) for dynamic sequences, the panels layout is very good too. Plus the mechanical drawings are as good as for the animation.
There's also the initial Riding Bean OAV whose TV project cancellation and rights problems made Sonoda create Gunsmith Cats. And the currently in-production Riding Bean OAV helmed by Sonoda and advertised through crowd-funding.

May 14, 2020
@Andrzej2 Why would it have become a series though? It was only thought as a bonus story for the manga. (what was planned as a series was the Riding Bean OAV, before it was "scrapped", pushing the author to recycle some elements into his Gunsmith manga) Also, the regular car or gun action would have probably been taxing for a weekly show/

I would have expected that the russian killer would have a sniperrifle and kill them from a distance.
Or at least use silenced weapons and get as close as possible before you start shooting. (Okay, she was interrupted, but would they actually hear Collins in that crowd?

But the last explosion was overkill. How did they even survive that?

Wow! What an in depth analysis of the unrealistic action and lack of developed tactics if this farce of show. Can you give me a break down of John Mclane's logic and strategy as well?

Damn that was very good! Happy I checked it out. This really could of done with being a full length series instead of just 3 episodes! The characters we're good, the music, the choreography with rally and Minnie in combat. Little cool details here and there like Rally balancing her magazine on her foot and then loading her weapon. Pretty neat! I watched it dubbed and I gotta say, it was solid! So I guess the senator was behind the gun running in the end, with him publicly being against guns, he hoped to sell illegal weapons for a high price to make a profit.

Roy pronounced the Ukrainian assassin's name as "Nastasya", yet MAL and other sources call her "Natasha". Remarkable degrees of screw-ups with this series when it comes to anime database information.

Akiko Hiramatsu voiced a character very similar to her role as Nene in BGC.

By the way, this OVA has a wordless opening which is not exactly common (Bebop also had such a thing, and also jazzy)

Becky: says she won't come to the party, proceeds to doing exactly that xD

Honestly Rally should've shot with her left hand after getting injured. And Radinov should've shot through the toilet door lol. Probably possible.

I wish there was more animated Gunsmith cats...after all, something like Golgo 13 got a TV series. In honesty I just want to see animated Misty and Ken lol. But it looks like they won't be making appearances even in the recent crowdfunded project (which is only about 5-10 minutes long anyway apparently).

And it finishes off with corrupt dude getting locked up, Russian girl getting oof'd, and basically the bad guys losing. Nice way to have a final fight, tho I would have expected more tbh.

Overall, was a good anime. Watched this one in local anime society and I have to say it was fun lol. Didn't really think this was the best thing in the world but it makes me like old anime some more as I am already in the midst of watching it anyway.

Anyway, good stuff. May needed more screen time tho tbh.

I think this is not a bad ending, thing is this could've been a way more episode series where we couldve gotten a decent character development and to see more things that I presume manga had but weren't shown here.

This show really feels like Cowboy Bebop before Cowboy Bebop but it just doesn't have certain types of charm that made Bebop such a cult classic, still I really like things they done here and 90s aestetic really was felt

Solid 90s OVA, coherent plot driven story with some badass moments sprinkled throughout. 7/10. Again, looked incredible, watching the BD version of this.

I'm not sure why this is not a TV anime, one thing that I can guess is that perhaps I think they want to avoid competing with You're Under Arrest since both existed roughly during the same time or they feel the lack of enthusiasm, one thing for sure I think this series was more famous in America instead of Japan.

But yeah, You're Under Arrest basically has 100+ total episodes while this only get an OVA, that's quite sad.

I wished we have more anime like this in this modern era (Closest thing we get is Hakozume recently), I'm still watching isekai and fantasy but I feel quite tired because they dominated the market for like a good decade or so, please Japan.
