Mushishi has 10 volumes of manga. The first 5 volumes were animated into 26 episodes, leaving 5 volumes untouched. In those 5 untouched volumes there are 24 chapters, which makes 24 episodes. 2 new chapters means 2 more episodes added on to those 24 making 26. No doubt about it. It's a second season.

GAHBDAH! BLAHDAH! What is this entering my ears? The very thought of an addition to the perfection that is Mushishi?

Shoot, my mind is being blown away! Get back here, mind! Dammit!

I pray that it is S2 of Mushishi directed by Hiroshi Nagahama. He directed the beautiful S1!
The rest of the chapters in the manga are amazing!
Yuki Urushibara is an excellent writer!

I'm at the last episodes of Mushishi & I really hope the announcement is the 2nd season.

This series is one of a kind..please let it be another season :') no need for a movie or worse yet live action adaptation, just another 26 episodes season.

Please season two!! I remember the director saying how much he'd like to do another season, so I think there is some hope.

Still waiting for that season 5 of Natsume, so at least give me some Mushishi in the mean time!

No, I'm asking why call it a secret project if you're announcing it. You kill people to keep projects top secret, not advertise them in magazines. I'm questioning why they did call it top secret instead of just saying there are some plans for the series.
This is just some standard marketing phrase in Japan. "Secret project" for some coming marketing campaign or new product; "Break the blackout" for information release or product launch. Just some hyperbole phrase that Japanese marketing love to use (and it is NOT limited to anime industry, far from it). Might as well get used to it as I am sure exaggerated descriptions used in marketing is not limited to Japan.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Since Mushishi is literally the only show to air since 2005 to sell as well as it has, be made by a studio that wasn't working on more profitable projects, and have enough source material for a second season not to get one, I'd be unsurprised if the industry were about to erase that outlier.

*fingers crossed, with stats backing them*

If this is a new Mushishi anime, I'm happy about it - though as happy as I am to hear about a new project for it, I'd much rather see a second season of Kino's Journey.

I will wet my pants every day that I wait for the season to air, and then I'll wet my pants every time I watch a new episode, and i will wet my pants every day I wait for the airing of the next episode. My organs will have to work super fast to produce so much wetness, so I must keep my self well hydrated.

Well I was honestly hoping for more but can't be too picky I guess. More Mushishi is always a blessing no matter how long. Very much looking forward to this.

This is not true. I think you have mistranslated the article in animeanime.

worldeditor11 said:

There is inaccurate translation. No mention of Aku no Hana technique is made in the news source. Aku no Hana was mentioned only because of its association with the director (what other thing the director is known for), not about this anime per se.

I can see how a news mod can unintentionally spread unfounded rumors.... anyway, so far we are not seeing any evidence that rotoscoping will be used in Mushishi.
