I figured we could probably use a thread on this topic with how much old school stuff is getting licensed lately. Post release dates, newly licensed anime, reprints, deals on Amazon or other sites, etc.

Discotek just announced Ringing Bell will be coming to DVD in 2014, not sure if they already had announced that they acquired it or not yet though. If not Klonoa should probably be happy about this.

@Kellhus

As if Discotek weren't awesome enough! Thanks for the news tip! Day 1 purchase from me. I'm gonna have to have a Normal DVD anime section in my draw, and have a special place for all the Discotek and Nozomi releases.

I was wondering when they'd finally get their hands on Ringing Bell! Maybe they can get their hands on Dog of Flanders, Journey to Fairyland, Happy Birthday, Momoko, Star of Cottonland, and Who's Left Behind next?

I hope Discotek can license the Dezaki Treasure Island series, original Saint Seiya TV series as they have the films, remastered City Hunter and the original Japanese version of Windaria, as the only version the west got was the terribad dub.

I think when Discotek taps the movies there's a good chance they're interested in the TV installments as well. They were going to tackle GE999 before S'More got it, and I've often heard that they were trying to acquire Casshan, but Sentai was probably working on that behind the scenes for awhile.

It would be amazing if Harlock SSX is down the road and more importantly Queen Millennia. Maybe even Yamato!

And yes a full complete set of Saint Seiya... in their HnK quality... man that would be killer.

Let's make this one of the best threads and let the market hear our voice!

Maybe we should make a list of different companies from the UK and US listing what titles they've licensed, as although a news thread is nice, a license list would be very useful....

Speaking of Saint Seiya

http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=113434 If it's not Discotek or Nozomi doing it.... it can ef of.

Yeah I wonder what's up with that. Very curious to see what comes of it. Dub only would be a real bummer.

Saint Seiya TV is pretty much at the top of stuff I am hoping Disotek would announce since they got the movies.

Pretty stupid if that's all it is. We already got a dub only "Knights of the Zodiac" for Saint Seiya. Not sure how far that one got. But it was coming out around the same time ADV released up to 60. If it weren't for the "new video group" part, I would have suspected that Sentai would re-release eps 1-60 all in one box. But now I have no idea. If whatever this was did have a sub track, at least it might have 61-73 to finish off Sanctuary.

Okay, why is New Video Group getting Saint Seiya? It doesn't add sub tracks to their releases so why would they even want something like that?!

Is it confirmed as dub only though? I'm seeing it listed a few places, but with no details other than price and a Nov 5th release date.

More Discotek news, they've licensed the following:

Cybersix TV series. Doesn't even seem like anime to me, but it has a MAL page and is apparently Tokyo Shinsha related.

Well shit, that could be good news for Maison Ikkoku too. I've heard talk about Viz possibly re-releasing it. A BD release would be glorious.

I knew Viz was in conversations on a BR for one or more Takahashi title, maybe maybe next is Inuyasha and with luck, then we can have Maison Ikkoku.

Nice! I'm loving all the old school rescues lately, but with BD picking up in Japan with all this I hope it catches on here soon too. Glorious seeing some of these classics in BD quality.

I've got some potentially good news on that Saint Seiya collection. I e-mailed RightStuf about it since the product listing has been updated, and they said it is going to have Japanese audio and English subs. The response I got:

"Thank you for your email.

The product Saint Seiya Sanctuary DVD Collection is a subbed version, so it is Japanese audio with English subtitles only.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us!"

Both the listings on RightStuf and Amazon say that it is dubbed though, whereas they told me subs only. Maybe they meant English subs only. I'm guessing it has the dub, the Japanese audio, and subtitles. Hopefully this is true and they release the rest of the series as well.

Yeah, if you follow RightStuf on Facebook they talk about that. Definitely a typo they said they are fixing. It is indeed SUBBED, and subbed only. No dub at all.

You should add Samurai Pizza Cats to Diskotek and all of those here:

Trying to watch all available anime series so you won't have to anymore, the list of anime I can recommend is still in progress, tho

It probably should be, it doesn't look like people have kept up. XD I'll try to post them when I see them, I never noticed this thread before.

Well for Japanese releases you can always check CDJapan (they also list manga): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/release/anime/movie/month/ .

Most English releases I think should be listed on Amazon:

I have a question for the staff of this club; would it be okay if we post crowdfunding efforts (similar to what Animeigo did for Bubblegum Crisis) in this thread? Also, crowdfunding has gone pretty well with manga for Digital Manga Publishing who are doing the old Osamu Tezuka manga that were never licensed. Would it be okay to post manga also, since the Old School Manga Club is just about dead from the looks of it?
