Well this was an interesting start? I barely understood the details, but I luckily got the general idea of the story. It is really evident how this series caries a strong religious aspect to it, of course I am not expert on any religion in fact, but when it comes to Blood tears coming from statues, Cups overfilling with blood, drinking blood, sins and even blunt mentions of God...I think I was able to take a hint. Although, I don't understand all their separate meanings, which is why I'd definitely need to rewatch this once I grasp a deeper understanding of them all. For now, I enjoyed this first episode quite a lot, it has such an eerie feel to it, that is also very disturbing. The characters themselves aren't that interesting, but the story that surrounds them is very intriguing and is what drew me in. I am curious to know how the rest of the OVA will fair out, maybe more violence if that is even possible? Also, for a series from 2004, it has some amazing animation and quality!

Wow, if I was Eiri, I wouldn't have hesitated for even one second to drink that blood if I heard that I would be losing something coming from Mamiko Noto's voice.

Haha, maybe he didn't hear her voice clearly, because of all the background music.

All the exessive gore and religious hints spoilled the whole thing for me. Though I guess Gothic is always connected with blood and religion in a way..
But I liked most the first part which was more mystical and eerie. Sometimes you only need one simple scene to create something beautiful and captivating. So the whole premise with the glass was fantastic until it was ruined for me by the overweening of the "skull world". but that's just my opinion on it..

It's not that I don't enjoy the Gothic feeling, and the music is also breathtakingly beautiful.
I would give it a 10, since it is a unique piece of work, but I just can't ignore the disturbance some scenes make me feel..

In it's good points, the animation, the colors and the artistic aproach on it bring chills.

This is so far one of the most amazing anime I have seen. Especially I'm referring to the visuals and direction. Sometimes though it does get a bit indulgent. The scene where he turned into a monster, for example, was really freaking awesome, but it also felt a bit out of place, as if I were all of a sudden watching Dance in the Vampire Bund. So, I guess I'm saying this is a slightly incoherent parade of awesomeness. The atmosphere this gives off is really freaky...

I'm certainly confused as well. If Erie 'loves' Cossette then why hurt him so much. Is it inevitable that he'll end up wanting to kill her or can't he just learn from deep in the past mistakes. Idk. I am on episode 2 now and very curious to see how this all ends up. xD

Well, I can feel this is going to be one of the weirdest anime shows I've encountered so far. But it's interesting, I have my hopes high for the remaining episodes. Kajiura is gorgeous as always, and you can feel it's Shinbo, even though it's very different from his more recent works with Shaft.

This is a gothic fiction animated, that's why there are religious undertones. It's just set in modern day Japan that's all, but it does well what it suppose to do.

So far the story is very intriguing. Eiri's infatuation with Cossette (aka the girl in the glass) is subtly hinted at in the very first scene of the episode with the doctor.

The setting establishes that Eiri is experiencing visions of a young girl for a long time. It's come to a point where his work partners and close friends are noticing him spacing out.

Finally, Eiri's interest in the girl turns into something more. He begins drawing her, and thinks about her constantly. Before he knows he's fallen in love with her.

And thus we find out that Eiri is supposedly a reincarnation of a man who supposedly killed Cossette some 250 years ago.

I like the plot and story-line but what I don't like is the execution. Most of the characters are quite bland comparative to other anime. And I just didn't get the impression that Eiri was in love with Cossette. First of all, I don't think Eiri is feeling love towards her. I'd say it's more of an non-romantic obsession based on how the scenes were executed.

I eagerly await the next part of this story. Hopefully, the execution will improve. On another note, the music of the anime is excellent, and fits very well with the dark and mysterious theme of the anime.

The guy that killed the girl is an ancestor of the MC.
The girl keeps going after the descendants of the guy that killed her.
When she gave the MC her blood it was filled wit the soul and destiny of his ancestor.
But a lot of spirits hate the ancestor and try to harm/kill the MC now.
Their hatred for the ancestor is a curse and makes the MC into a demon but the girl saves him by taking out the spirits.

That's what I got out of it :)

Cosette got killed by Orlando the artist who painted her....not sure why he did it. A bunch of objects witnessed this killing and became cursed because of the murder. The rich dude and slut puppy bought some of them and the cursed objects killed them. MC can see into the glass and fell in love with her.....just as Orlando fell in love with her. MC makes a blood pact with Cosette and thereby assumes the evil spirit of Orlando and his love for her. The only way to make things right is for MC/Orlando to die. At least that is what I got out of it......lol.

Rewatching (4) this for valentines day because it's romance! It's almost hard to believe it's already been 3 years since I last watched this.

As soon as the glass fell off the desk, this anime reasserted itself as the 2nd best anime I have ever seen.

Cossette still creeps me out like none other.

I think it's not quite clear. I'm not quite sure if he is really the descendant of her murderer. She said something along the lines of waiting for someone who can see her and he could. The rest I would agree with but I'm not sure if the MC was a descendant to begin with. If he were, your third point would be kind of unnecessary, yet it was definitely being part of the story so far.

Overall I liked this first episode, but it was slow in the middle and not clear what was happening at times. I feel like the episode could have been cut down a bit without losing much; maybe not though. I like the dreamlike feel. Reminds me a lot of early 2000s anime on Adult Swim and such (based on voices and musick being same actor and composer), staying up late to be tired at school tomorrow and still living in dreams.

Oh man, Kajiura's works always impress me in one way or another. The OST used here was superb and it fitted perfectly well in every scene it was needed.

Regarding the episode, its introduction sure was interesting. So far, the premise is of my liking and the way the atmosphere was handled was quite impressive as well.

Decent start overall. Now, let's see what the remaining two episodes have to offer.

Bizarre. I guess this anime is what happens when Devilman and Monogatari have a child. And it's probably the epitome of AKiyuki Shinbo's direction, since after Cossette his participation in pretty much any anime is unclear, him taking the infamously confusing tole of "chief director" on Shaft shows. I really dig the style of this OVA, 40 minutes flew by very fast.

PS: re Devilman:
Back then, we planned to do a remake of Devilman, or something along those lines. Unfortunately, it never quite came together. What we did eventually put together was Cossette.

From this interview

The editing here kept the pace at a fairly mesmerizing clip. A lot of the imagery here is quite captivating and interesting. I wonder if whoever wrote this considers themselves a pedophile, and finds that a horrific and torturous existence. I'm definitely looking forward to finishing this OVA series tomorrow.
