I was so creeped out when luffy appeared out of nowhere, when Nami was stabbing herself in the shoulder. In the original version it was less.... creepy? When I saw it in the special it felt like the bathroom scene in horror movies. Or in a horror movie when you turn around, or open a door. We see Nami crying all alone, then suddenly the camera angle does a close up to Luffy standing directly behind her all randomly. It's really dark out, and Luffy is a lot less cheerful (more moody, bipolar, etc.). It was a horror movie moment srsly. Other than that... it was pretty good. There were a few less smooth edits, where people randomally were there... but otherwise, it was fairly good :) |

I like this remake. The only downside was the few funny scenes that were cut but the action scenes made up for it. And also the old OST that were played during the epic walk they did. Other than that, it was great to rewatch this arc again and in HD :-) 9/10 |

I just finished a few days ago and i thought that the recap was amazing. The animation was much better. All the important scenes were there. -the fights were cut shorter tho while the flashback might of been to long was the only flaw. I really liked the reshowing of nami stabbing herself and asking luffy for help. I think that was a crucial part. As well as the desk and stuff being thrown out. |

Man this is really why I think Arlong was such a badass villain in the One Piece universe, he was just so brutal. I really like the way they redid the fight scenes, alot more fast paced and pretty too look at with the great visuals and animation. Got to say for an HD remake, this did not dissappoint. 9/10 for me |

This was really, really well done. The only thing I would add is the scene at the end of the arc when Nami is in her old house, saying goodbye. The part where Bellemere pushes her out the door was soooo touching |

What a great story!! It was very good to remember old good episodes. This and Arabasta are my favourite arcs, I'm glad to be able to see those sad scenes in HD. I watched an anime RAW for the first time, and I'm proud I understood everything. Watching anime is a great way to learn Japanese. Also Japanese commercials were very funny to watch.^^ The only minus was the few funny scenes that were cut, but it can't be helped in a retelling. Other than that, perfect. 9/10. |

LOL on the repetitive Ussop Hammer use. I've watched the anime TV broadcast of this a loong time ago I forgot the details of it all. In the TV series, I remembered Nami or somebody pulled Luffy's head and stretched his neck out of the water so he won't drown or something. Ah well, I'm getting senile. 8/10 for juggling my memories again. XD |

I put this one off for a while. Did I really want to bother re-watching the Arlong arc again? I know the story well enough and it wasn't really a favourite of mine.. But I finally decided to watch it if for nothing else the new animation, which was very nice. But despite not expecting much, I enjoyed this far more than I expected. Whereas I have just watched the new fish man arc and have already watched the original Arlong arc, I found them both ok, but a bit slow and dragged out overall. This special however was obviously much shorter and this made it for me at least very enjoyable. All the emotional parts of the arc were brought out perfectly and I never realised how touching Nami's story really was before watching this. Although the majority of the action took place in the last 30 minutes and usually I am just eagerly waiting for the action, I liked it like this is this special and just really enjoyed the story, it brought out all the emotion and summarized perfectly exactly what Nami went through and made you realize how she must be thinking visiting the fish man island and meeting Hordy. |

Just watched it yesterday and man was this awesome! I've seen the arlong arc about 3 times now and this one did not dissapoint. The new animations were superb, and it was allot more violent too, like Bell-mère's death. Really loved seeing this arc again. Hopefully they'l do a skypiea arc too... After Arlong, that was probably one of my most favorites. |

10/10 When this was aired in Japan, did they even show the crew after the time skip? Just wondering. I'm guessing the manga did, but what about the anime? |

Awesome Dejavu I had there. And Nami's past and her determination still made me tear up, really really good!! And DAT epic OST when the 4 of them where walking to the park gives me goosebumps every time. Also the scene where Nami stabs her self and asks Luffy for Help is so emotional. Really great special :D |

Beautiful.... this rekindled my love for One piece! East Blue was ALWAYS my favourite, and as much as I love the entire crew and continuation, I say it was the most balanced when it was only these original 5. (That said, I can't imagine the story without the rest) This movie is a perfect intro for all the sorry people missing out on One Piece, due to it's length/early series art, having no patience, or just plain ignorance. A biased 10/10! One Piece is truly magical... :) |

The tears were shed, not only Nami's if you know what I mean. Very good special, the only thing that bugged me was the Walk to the Arlong Park and Nami's stabbing herself - it was far more emotional in the original series. 9/10 from me. |

The action looked awesome in this special! I'm glad they skipped the part where they throw Luffy into the water, it was boring. Also, did anyone notice Zoro's "enemy" from the current arc(gyojin island, the one with a bulb on his head) in Arlong's crew? |

to talk about this episode means i'll have to talk a lot about myself and one piece. for me and one piece, i never touched it because it seemed so childish and ugly to me. i always thought i was lame, and never understood the appeal. so when my brother said he he was going to watch it, i steered clear of coming across him watching it even by accident. it would have to be around the middle (?) episodes, when i noticed my brother was extremely enjoying himself watching it, and i just plopped next to him and watched in total unheartedness. it was the episode (or scene, to be precise) when ussop and luffy went at it over the ship. i don't know what came over me - i hadn't even seen more than 2 episodes of one piece in my life - but i was instantly pulled in. i had little knowledge of the show and even less of the characters, but the moment was so intense that i kept staring. i remembered just how i felt; how i fled to the side of ussop when he insisted on keeping merry, when he knew - he knew - he would lose the battle but still demanded to fight luffy with everything they both had, it was incredible. this is one piece???? the one with the silly looking designs, bright, childish faces and the general unappealing aura of it all? i was shocked. i found myself still sitting with my brother when he clicked another episode, then another. i was actually rooting for a character i barely knew. i cared deeply for his journey alone. i wanted him to achieve his goal and prove his ex-crew wrong. i could hardly believe it. if i had never sat down at that time, on that episode, in that moment, i would have never had ussop as my favorite character (let alone anyone in the show). needless to say, i had changed my mind. one piece was spectacular. and i hold it in the highest respect. it's the best moment in the entire show for me, hands down. (take note that i was really new to anime at the time as well.) so then comes the robin arc. when i saw the robin arc, i was ready for an equally great adventure as the one i just saw. and saw i sat down with my brother and watch episode after episode. after episode. after episode. after episode. after episode... after episode........ after episode.................... after episode................................ -_- ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... i was so long i deemed it unbearable and quit watching it. i understand how long an arc can be, but this was much beyond my patience. i still hate it to this day. so when the "I wada libe" part came up, guess what? i sighed and looked sideways. it didn't come to me like how the ussop and luffy scene. very quickly afterwards, i dropped off of one piece and never really regarded it with any respect. it was so boring to me i had forgotten why i even liked it in the first place. until i saw this with my brother. this was an absolute masterpiece. i've known for quite a while that luffy gave his hat away to nami (and ONLY to nami), but i didn't really know the reason. so i watched it with my brother, and we saw the beginning of the movie. pretty comedic most of the time, right? then it moves into nami's background. as i expected of anime (i had watched a good bit by this point) i knew it would be a dark past, but i would have never guessed it was horribly wrong like this. when it came to the present, and nami was working as hard as she could to make things right, i could see (as well as her) that the problem was closing in or her. she was beginning to be trapped. more and more, and i could see more and more clearly that this had to be done by luffy and only luffy. literally, no-one else could accomplish this other than him. my heart reached out to nami was she tried to curse arlong as much as she could, but damaged herself in the end, repeatedly stabbing her tattoo spot. you could feel what she was. you knew that it wasn't even hurting when she pulled the knife in and out over and over; she was so filled with trauma and anger. then comes one of my favorite scenes. luffy quietly watches her do it, and then reaches out to stop her so she could hurt herself no more. he waits as she weeps and wails, waiting for that one word - that one word that would set him in action, that one word that will guarantee her safety and freedom, that one word that would make him do what he's been itching to do, that one word that would rid of her troubles forever - a direct cry for help. in two moves he takes of his hat and places it firmly on nami's head. "YOU BET I WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" luffy summons sanji, zoro, and ussop forward - who are already there - and they head over towards arlongs's place. it was in this time that i was sincerly cheering all of them (but especially luffy) onward, to get revenge on arlong once and for all. i remember thinking in the back of my head "This is the One Piece I love!"[/i]. but why? how did i feel this way? these feelings of nostalgia was coming back inside me and i had no idea where they came from. as i debated myself in the back of my mind, i grew more and more excited for luffy's friends defending nami. and you would think that sanji's chivalry lines would be corny right? nope! "You think it softens me eh? Let's see how much chivalry has done to me then." "He's not trash like you, who'd hurt a lady." TELL 'EM SANJI MY DUDE. and then there's luffy's - "I know what I have to do now to save Nami! I have to get rid of everything that haunts her!" (another great scene btw, nami seeing her life as a slave smashed onto the floor, the burden being put off her shoulders as each part of the room shattered on the ground. lovely symbolism!!) "NAMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE PART OF OUR CREW NOW!!!!!! it was just...wow. i hate movies that aren't 2 hours, but this 1 and 47 was more than enough for this intense, beautiful story of sacrifice. Digibro has said many stupid things, but this one thing he's said i agree in. one piece isn't about that shounen when you'll see people of the crew is dead, when people of the crew are lost forever by an accident, or anything like that. it's all about the main character shield. but you know what? it's not disgusting to see. it's not about seeing the loss in one piece. it's about seeing the gain. you know luffy will find the one piece, you know that while the crew will face death, it won't be certain. you know that everything will be ok with the main characters. because it's not about that. it's about how they make their adventure to their goal. i was still thinking to myself about just how nostalgic i felt looking at this movie, but it all made sense to me, just now talking about this. back in the robin arc, i had literally died to one piece. i cut off all ties of how i felt about the show. i had left it alone for so long i had even long forgotten what made me like the show in the the first place. i even knew that ussop was my favorite character, but i had no idea why i knew that. so when those feelings revived they made me so confused. after all this blabbing, i'm just leaving with my final words of praise. a fantastically done adaption, it even makes me want to look at the episodic arc. and even though i understand how i felt about one piece that one time i looked at it on a whim, i still can't speak for how much i was in love with this movie. thank you so much, oda, for your storytelling. thank you so much. a perfect ten out of ten. and now everyone, i bid you adieu. |

This movie was great! The first time I got interested in the One Piece series was the Pirate Warriors game that covered the beginning until the time-skip. This was actually my first exposure to the anime franchise and I'm looking forward to taking on the main series very soon. The fight scenes were superb and I was surprised at how graphically painful their injuries actually are. Nami won't give her arm a break lol. The emotions I got from Bellemere's death and Nami's eventual freedom from Arlong were very intense ;~; The comedy scenes especially with Usopp's hammering were hilarious xD I wish that I could've spent my childhood watching and growing along with the Straw Hats. |
