i find them interesting individuals who usually hold some form of complex. Anime girls are unfortunately too perfect or stereotypical, tomboys are more original and because of this difference have something worth proving. Its also funny that in most cases tomboys are actually quite feminine as well :3 especially when they start their relationships going. serious blushing starts then !
its very cute ^_^

Well I have a person or moral sentiment against gender roles. And as can be seen from this group, that's usually labeled feminism.

But aside from a general worldview, or just as an endearing personality in women, there seems to be a deep rooted romantic interest for me as a boy.

Sure guys all seem to like eye candy(and so do girls, of course), but you need someone you can relate to. I only believe opposites attract to a degree. Moreso than not, similarity attracts. I don't really as much find myself attracted to girly girls, at least personality-wise.

Again, I had to go into that, because I am attracted to the opposite sex, and this asked "why do you like tomboy characters" not "feminism general discussion".

To me, a girl who fits the traditional male gender role more than I do, is incredibly endearing and attractive. I'm not sure why, but it's a deep psychological thing. Perhaps as hard as to explain to someone why you are gay or straight.

I'm mentioned I'm not fond of gender roles enough I think, time to go into the sorts of nontraditional gender roles I find attractive in women.

For one, in romantics, I like the women who see a man they like and go after him. So of a counter to the sexist traditional woman-gatekeeper thing. I like girls taking your virginity. To many women in anime and media in general are all acting in the Victorian sexist manner that they have to hold themselves out.

Another, I like a girl who is more athletic than me. Especially things like skateboarding. Or boxing or some kind of mixed martial arts. I love watching women in MMA and dream of the day women can compete with men on an equal level and win. Evolution will head however we direct culture, even if men are stronger than women for the moment, that doesn't have to be permanent. And I think it's silly for people to think men should be stronger than women in complete fictional realms like anime and manga.
Women too often play a weaker physical role in entertainment like anime as far as I'm concerned.

I like the sorts of girls who get into "geek" activities like me, moreso than me. A place that's generally considered a male's domain. Such as Konata Izumi. A total "otaku". That's sexy!

I would go into more, but I notice I'm building a wall of text, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Wow...That's awesome. I get annoyed every once in a while when guys ONLY seem to date the girly girls. I like to play sports and play video games a lot. (and I often get made fun of for being a tomboy...)But, wow, you seem like you're a really cool guy. I hope I find a guy who finds tomboys attractive or else I'm in trouble. :O Good luck finding a tomboyish gal. :D

ANYWAYS,

I like anime tomboys since I can compare to them. They seem to stand out more than the average girls who always have a lesser role and always need to be rescued.

i dont rlly, for most cases only to a certain degree do i like them. once they feel like there 'all mighty' or act to much w/o be a girl at all i dont like it. when girls sololy act as a guy it goes to far. i dunno i would say some1 like Kaname Chidori from FMP is the limit for me, but it would have to be someone with a better personality b/c i hate the way she acts, but she is a good example of a tomboy i find slightly attractive. or i think Rin Tohsaka from Fate S/N is rlly attractive too, she wanders between tomboy and 'girly girl'. or would u girls consider saber a tomboy from fate S/N b/c she fights? and uses a sword and calls her self a king and not a women? but then again shirou corrupts her mind and she starts caring about giry things more and more. but she was hot too.

What I like most about girls that are tomboys is that their independent, can stick up for themselves, don't freak out about the smallest most insignificant things, aren't drama queens, they don't hang all over boys, and usually most of them can kick some serious ass.

So, basically, if she's hot it's okay for her to be a tomboy?

yeah really, do you have a problem with tomboys because of their look?
if they are not attractive or "hot" you dont like them?
and whats bad about girls who act like guys? they are real an do what they like, why guys can act like that and not girls?

(sorry about grammar\spelling mistakes, if i made some..)

I don't think most tomboys purposely act that way, it's just their personality. It's not really like they want to be boys, you know. <.<

soul4soul said:
once they feel like there 'all mighty' [...] i dont like it.

Most girls I know are all high and mighty but they aren't tomboys. :D

Or do you mean that they are really stubborn and think they can accomplish something on their own and won't accept help? Well, I don't think that has anything to do with gender roles, it's a personality trait. There are just people who don't like to be helped and it doesn't necessary has to have anything to do with not being able to do something with oneself's own strenght; there could be other reasons, e.g. not wanting to trouble other people (I'm like that ^^;) or they are just too nice or like I said, stubborn.

Why I like tomboys? It's not that I especially like tomboys, it's more like I don't like what people consider the "typical girl". I don't really think I, myself, am a tomboy (because I still like pretty clothes and such), but I don't understand girls, either. But because the real girls I know are different from the anime/manga ones, I won't go further into that.
Like everyone already mentioned the typical anime girls whine about the smallest thing, are weak and they always need help. It's really annoying. (And when I think about how those girls are based on real Japanese girls, I always wonder what is true and what is just exaggerated?) I don't see many characters that have a strong personality but aren't tomboys... :/

I really like girls that can fight, and fight in a cool way. Like Hotarubi. (By the way, why isn't she on the list?) I LOVE seeing a girl kicking a guy's ass. >:]

I just hate girly girls >, They are so fragile that i hate it. I don't like to depend on someone and i try not to depent on my boyfriend or friends.. I love the tomboy girls because I am one of them.
Sometimes i dress like a girl like in dresses or skirts but that doesn't change the thing that i argue or almost beat up someone ^^ it's funny that i am a girl and i have 2-3 girl friend and the rest are boys, but i like it this way.
I enjoy sports and killing time with boys and i hate sitting with girls because i don't care about girlish things... So time ago it was a pain because people told me it's not good but i didn't listen and here i am: just a girl that plays volleyball, basketball, roller skates or ice blades and sometimes get into a fight :)

I used to be VERY feminine since my family is the old fashioned type. But as I grew older, I started doing different sports like Kendo, basketball, soccer, softball and track. When I started doing those sports, I realized even girls can kick ass too. So yeah, I also became tomboyish because of that.

I like them because they're usually strong and no-nonsense. I absolutely can't stand whiny, sniveling girls who need someone else to protect them and cry at the drop of a hat.

I too am a tomboy and I despise the thought of depending on someone else. I'm an only child and was raised primarily by my dad's influence, so you could say I was raised more as a son than a daughter (which a lot of friends and family say). He's a brawny carpenter, so I was a bit stronger than a lot of the kids my age (boys included) and I loved to build stuff.
I LOVED to go outside and play football with the neighborhood boys (Tackle football. None of that flag stuff!!).The girls usually sat on the side and gossiped or played cheerleader.
It's rare for me to dress girly. I usually prefer wearing baggy pants and a tank top.

Simple... I don't want one of those women in movies that stands there and screams instead of taking action as a wife!

I want hear to be a women who can stand on her own to feet and get what needs to be done done, so even if I die she will stand proud and kneel to no man or women!

I want her to be a wrathful, vengeful, Terror when it comes to the defense of her offspring, And a loving mother to her children.
The type of women who will hunt anyone who threatens her family to the ends of the earth only to utterly destroy there mind and body to ensure the safety of what is most dear to her.

All this is summed up (in my eyes at least) as a tomboy, a badass, etc.
Tomboys are my ideal image of a women.
Strong, Willful, Vengeful, Proud, Independent!

Honestly, I just prefer women who hardly have a feminine side at all. Not macho jerks, mind you, but just like a really nice, laid-back, geeky type of dude to chill with and talk video games and such, but with the average female's body.

No make-up, heels, fancy hairstyles. Short hair is amazing, but messy, bed-headed, longer hair can be amazingly cute, too. Pants preferred, but simple, minimal-frills dresses and skirts are sometimes alright.

Something about the combo of a more masculine personality and style of dress with a female body, though, is just incredibly attractive for me. They're everything I would hope for in another human being: the best friend (similar interests, relatable) and the potential lover (that is, what with my being a heterosexual male, a cis-female-bodied person). I guess like that other poster said, I also never really bought too heavily into the whole "opposites attract" business.

Not to say there's anything inherently wrong with feminine women, but they're just not as attractive to me, romantically and aestethically. Sigh... I'm rambling on and I'm sorry if this thread's too old to be posting in, hahaha

Most tomboy anime girls have such sexy low voices and short haircuts. Thats why I like them better than feminine women.

Plus, their idependence and self cofidence are turn ons as well.
Same goes for real-life girls,as long as they dont act too manly.

Are there "not that much tomboy" girls in anime, other than Tendo Akane and Kamiya Kaoru?
They isn't THAT manly if compared to Sailor Jupter.
