Meh, it was okay. Nothing too special and it seemed like they were just using Cowboy Bebop to preach to kids in schools, which I guess is essentially what they did. It's a nice clip show of the previous episodes though.

Well I was hoping that it would at least include some new animation, but the only thing new was the dialog. I did like the song that played towards the end though.

Yeah, it was a nice touch, especially for the lack of new content.

All the other songs were composed by SHAKKAZOMBIE's DJ, TSUTCHIE. He performed some of the music for Samurai Champloo, and he's a close friend of the director Shinichiro Watanabe.

Amazing recap. Those deep dialogues and quotes...
Well, they thought the anime would be cancelled so, if that had actually happened, I think that this would be an amazing way to wrap things up. Even though it was a recap, it felt like another good episode for me.

A recap episode, kind of, yet this is definitely not just any normal recap episode that you usually get and a great at that. I found some commentaries provided by the characters here as genuinely thoughtful and made me wonder of their meaning and implications in life.

this is a pretty good complement to the series. It gives an insight into how the characters felt and their worldview. Spells some things out so to speak. It would have been great to have this as an extra in the bd's: odd it wasn't included.

This was so good for a special, all the lessons had so much meaning to them and re-enforced the themes of Cowboy Bebop amazingly. It actually must have sucked for the people who made this knowing they had to end the show here but as per the message at the end, We did get to see the real Cowboy Bebop.

Btw... If you see a stranger, follow them!

Maybe it's because I haven't seen the show in a while but most of the quotes were gibberish to me. Yeah, some of them just revealed the characters' motivations, which was enlightening, but I thought that the attempts at lessons just amounted to empty sayings. Maybe rewatching the episodes would reveal the connection and flesh out the lessons since the episodes would be showing and not telling.

I've been lied to all these years, this was not a recap. Maybe thematically it could be considered one, but the actual content of the twelve episodes that aired were not addressed in the slightest. If anything this more of a character piece, where our cast got to philosophize their perspectives set to Tsutchie and the most fitting bits of animation they could use.

The visual component of this episode is almost entirely pointless, it matches vaguely what they're talking about but if this was dubbed I could just listen to it and get mostly the same experience. The main benefit to watching it was seeing the title cards, I love that they continued to refence music throughout. Tangled Up in Blue (Bob Dylan) being my favourite song that I recognized. And also, the ending with "This is not the end" was pretty touching, especially set to "Recover the Sky of Day".

I surprisingly enjoyed this, not all their talking points were interesting, but I do enjoy they were all in the character's voice. And the music was great as always. They should've absolutely included this on some release of the series, and I love for them to dub it with the original cast if at all possible. 7/10.

Welp, I was completely left in the dust. For an episode which is as formulaic and basic as this, it's remarkable how much ground it was able to cover and how well all the different talking points meshed together in keeping a running dialogue.

The use of Tsutchie's music was probably my favourite part. It's fun seeing Bebop's visuals being paired with what would become Champloo's musical stylings, though what's even better is that it actually fits with being the mildly pensive slowburner episode that most people wouldn’t bother with. Recover the Sky of Day really takes the cake, though. I’ve never considered any of the locales in Bebop to be particularly stand-out aside from Earth and Callisto, though all those slice of life shots of the planets does a pretty great job of recontextualising the scope of the squalor in Bebop. Very few of those scenes are from the actual show though, right? I’m pretty concerned about how few of them I could pin down after having just finished rewatching the main series

By the way, I've no clue where the belief that this was intended to be the ending to the original series, it serving as a recap episode or it having any relation to the development of the characters came from in this thread, since it clearly isn't aiming to be any of those. Japan is pretty big into their audio dramas, so I'm surprised that nobody has ever labelled this as such since it's effectively what it is.

such a great and unique special, flirting with being a hidden gem maybe, despite being from such a well known mainstream series, I doubt many people have actually seen this ep

maybe a side effect of it's preservation coming from a TV recording or something, but the audio and picture was a bit grainy, not the fault of the content itself tho, hopefully they release this in higher quality with clear audio one day, if it was indeed preserved properly somewhere, or can be up-scaled/repaired/remastered.
