These kids don't know the trouble they have caused and now one of them is paying the price. Goodbye, they were causing a headache for me anyways

Really enjoyed the episode's approach towards youth and dreams; in specific the notion that society is a prison of sorts and youth is the escape from that. I'm guessing the episode ended the way it did so we can hit the ground running on tying up the series' loose ends over the final 2 episodes.

Man that Echo girl freaked me out up until now, but then seeing her desperately trying to cling onto her life while just barely choking out noises was sad and unsettling. This has probably been my favorite episode so far, it really brought up an intriguing question about what the past means to us as human beings. Is it something we use to justify the present? Do we truly lose something important to us as we grow older or is it just that we gain regret instead? What are memories worth to us? These are all questions I'd like to reflect on bit by bit this week.

I knew it I knew it Poom Poom is the "Bad" guy.
This does not pale beside the novels at all. If anything, I love THIS the most!!!!!
I hate the Manticore in the novel, I think she's a badass villain, but I was just so happy when she lost the fight.
Then Poom Poom. Well, have any of us not had a Poom Poom inside ourselves at one point??? Yeah, imprisonment in the past is "bad". But, though it is futile, isn't longing for sth eternal beautiful?? It's not delight when the villain is gone. If anything, it's unsettling to see the villain is still inside me now, a watcher.

Now... looks like a 2eps finale has been spared to resolve the background story. I guess the main chunk of the series will be better than its end.

I like how Boogiepop defeated Poom Poom with only words. Manaka is still alive after that giant fall huh.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

Suffering people, particularly students, are saved via "shedding their shells" upon receiving a balloon gifted by a person seemingly from heaven, all "becoming friends" and "gaining powers" once they leave society behind. The allure of this is seemingly throwing away that suffering, caused by losing things important to them such as friends, family, and ambitions, and joining other similar people to live free of troubles for all of eternity.

Okay, this is a blatant death cult if I've ever seen one, goddamn. All the metaphors make this even more creepy, as cold reading past trauma seems easy enough, but the allure of soothing emotional wounds by just withdrawing from society is hard to pass up for someone desperate for an escape. These feelings of regret are pretty timeless for as long as one can define modern society, particularly in the age of mass communication, but it's also so vague that it's easy to throw around flowery prose and meaningless analogies to convince someone of their own despair. Poom Poom didn't create these regrets, but he sure as hell amplified them. As an embodiment of regret, his words about returning one day is haunting, as such sentiments will probably pervade society for as long as suffering, trauma, abuse, anxiety, and fear for the present and future exist. Perhaps the greatest monster in society isn't what society can create, but society itself.

Boogiepop Phantom, holy crap what an anime.

Good to see regular Boogiepop, outfit and all, for the first time since the first episode (although Toka acted briefly as Boogiepop sans costume in episodes 5 and 9). And for the first time Manaka talks regularly instead of echoing others words. Looking forward to the last 2 episodes.
