| Ishii Toshimasa, my GOAT! Holy shit, they adapted the Pearl Harbor Descent! As someone who has no time to invest in all the extra content of Nier like the stage plays, light novels, fucking FFXIV, this anime is a Godsend and I am so happy they're utilizing the anime version to its fullest extent and using it to supplement the game. Are we finally heading to where we think we're heading in the next episode? I can't wait. |

| I have seen this story with those common tropes tons of times, this time it was under average, I don't feel any empathy towards the character and the real-time plot is moving too slow, anyways we are at the half of the season and we can definitely see the multiple weaknesses of the original source, I'll still be watching it though, 4.7/10. |

| I just managed to scream the entire episode, I'm loving it SO MUCH ! We finally have solid old story that's been twisted into the theater. . Now I'm looking forward to getting to the deserters sidequest and finally having more information about it. |

Verye said: we haven't even gotten to the forest kingdom part yet At the end of this episode A2 was just at the entry of the Forest Kingdom...so my guess is that this will be the next act. |

| Hearing such girly voice from someone looking like 2B was so weird. Pretty good episode. Really liked Lily's backstory as well as the continuous back and forth between past and present while she was walking with 2B. OST during the confrontation was also great, by the way. Never heard those tracks before tho. |
| I'm kind of torn on this episode. On the one hand it's just an inferior version of the pearl harbor manga, as it omits details and really good character moments. The squad was very fleashed out in the manga whereas here, many are reduced to their superficial traits. Especially the detail of Lily's origin and purpose would've been great (albeit disturbing) to adapt. I just hope that we don't get another case like the amusement park where they rush through a beautifully designed area of the game. On the other hand, it does the job of explaining Lily's character and her relationship with A2. You can't expect everyone to have read the manga, especially since there are only one or two volumes in english as far as I know. This anime has been it's very own thing from the second episode on and by now I trust the writers and directors that there's a reason why they chose to tell us Lily's Backstory in an entire Episode rather than only mentioning her relation to A2 like with Anemone in the game. The anime seems to make the side characters much more pivotal than the game as seen with Pascal, Lily and Jackass, so I trust this adaption for now. Well, despite all my torn feelings, there's one thing that is undoubtedly fantastic about this episode and it's the theme. Not only does it once and for all demonstrate that androids really are humans, it also brings up the topic of memories and oh boy it's gonna be good. No spoilers here, but this really does a lot to set up 2B's later character arc. Lily's story got to her and made her think about herself and who she is and who she wants to be. In that sense, the way they drew the parallel between the choices that the androids made during the descent mission and 2B's conflict is genius writing. After this Episode, I firmly stand by the opinion that the best order to experience Nier is Replicant --> Pearl Harbor Manga --> Automata --> Anime. I haven't read the two novels yet though, so I can't really say where those would fit or if they play into anything at all. |

| This episode tries to pull some emotional strings and fails miserably. Pearl Harbor is a big story that suffers too much from being cramped into 15 minutes short. -Hi, I am Lily and this is my crew! Dead 1, Dead 2, Dead 3, Dead 4... Yeaaaaaaah, just go read the manga or watch the play, I don't know. Visuals are great, but the story was rushed af, to the point they completely gave up at the end and went with "I dunno, everybody just died and I was the only one who survived". |
