About Stormy_77
Record of the Lodoss Wars was what got me hooked on anime, thanks to my friends influence. We had an anime gang back in Singapore but I haven't been able to find a club in the States. Initially I thought anime must not be as popular but judging by MAL membership, there's a lot of fans here too, we must just be geographically spread out.

My old anime gang was a great cross section of people. There were the manga freaks, the serious otakus, the robot guys, the cutie pie clique, the fight club, the "pretty doll" lovers, the ecchi/hentai fans, the action figure painters (me) and the "must watch something to cry about" softies. Pity, they were great guys, we used to host anime viewing at different members' houses on a rotating basis, the only rules were (1) minimum disclosure of anime plotline - no spoilers, and prep in case some hentai is involved (2) pause VCR for food and bathroom breaks only during anime halftime. We would stay over and watch anime for like 12 hours straight, then go out and eat, then more anime! Sometimes I dozed off. Those were great anime weekends. I really miss my old anime gang but I think everyone's scattered to the 4 corners of the world now.

My dream is to re-start a new and social anime club/gang where I live. The house is big so there's room for people to crash over on weekends.

Media Room Set Up UPDATE!
* Upgraded the Media PC with a cheap $499.99 quad core PC from Costco.
* On board graphics chipset is HDMI'd to a 55 inch plasma. The nice thing is the quad core enables playing/streaming of Blu Ray 1080p without the need for a separate discrete half height graphics card. My, how technology has progressed.
* On board sound from PC motherboard links to a receiver via HDMI and bose 5.1 surround sound system giving us super kick ass OH MY GOD digital audio optical cable quality sound!
* Thanks to my discovery of bittorrent and IRC (Blame ORION) I have tons of anime downloaded. Now have 2 x 500G and 2 x 1 Terabyte external hard disks.

Between the house, the job and the cats, anime time is precious. I need to watch more so I can delete some, or it will be time to buy yet another external hard disk. I will surely run out of USB slots soon .... I mean c'mon, this PC only has 8!

My anime viewing dream place is now fully completed! Ureshii!!! Gambatte! Go us!

IF anyone is visiting or passing by Portland, OR (USA) and wants to do a mega anime session (i.e. watching all 24 episodes in 1 day) just drop me a line, I would love to restart my anime club!

Your about section is oh so cute and brought a nostalgic tear to my eye. Hope the wonderland you built will be put to good use!

Hi Stormy. So I recently was put into labor in the Cinema of Japan group. Our Movie of the week, Cyborg Girl, just reminded me that you were the person who told me to watch My Sassy Girl by Jae-young Kwak. Hope all is well.

Cheerio:

Reading your review for Juuni Kokuki was what pushed me into trying to re-watch the anime. I didn't get very far the first time, maybe episode 6 or so, as I couldn't exactly see where the series was headed. But from what you say, it seems like the series gets better as you get into it. I did have a question, though; should I watch the anime at all, or would the manga be overall more advisable? I've not heard much about it. Anyways, thanks for the review~

Oh my, origination was the best~!

starshinesMonet | 07-18-12, 7:31 PM
Wow - you described my feelings about Juuni Kokki perfectly. I know mostly everyone who has seen the series wishes there had been more to it and I am one of many who feel that way. Did you know there were novels that have now been translated in English? This might just be online, but it's definitely helpful for thsoe of us who miss seeing more of the series.

I just hope that one day someone will make more with the same quality and integrity of this production.

I think my friend would buy it, even the price is $100, he's quite the clannad fans. :D

Yeah, i get that feeling even i was watching the first. Starts slow, but it gets better the more you watch it. It develops a certain feeling. It's rare for anime these days and i think even "The Animation" is quite underrated. Can't wait for watching the rest~!

I would love to visit ur club in portland.

By the way, your review for Jyu-Oh-Sei has convinced me that it is the next thing I need to see. :) Where did you find it?

starshinesMonet | 07-13-12, 5:37 PM
I've heard good things about the new one, but they have changed so much of the voice cast and I was very attached to them. But I've also heard they did a great job with that as well, so I will like watch the new one eventually.

I feel like I'm really too old for conventions. I'd love to meet a nice girl behind some glasses who is shy on the outside but certainly not so when you get to know her. Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm not sure about how to join a club. Moon_River suggested that try on this site called meetup.com. Maybe I will. As for the multiple priorities and the feeling of drowning, I suppose the only thing I'd have to compare with that is the amount of anime I have to watch on my ptw, on-hold and watching lists, which is certainly pathetic. You've just encouraged me to go ahead and attempt to take a Japanese class again, or to put it down forever and try to find another hobby that involves being more social.

zansabarshadow | 07-13-12, 12:49 PM
Sweet :D thanks for the info.

Yeah it seems really long and i have no interest in seeing all of the series in such LQ animation. If it was remade then that would be wonderful.

So by the sound of it, you usually just watch shows that are licenced? or do you go for fansubs? I may be just assuming but im curious :) i also read your about me, i also ran a anime club :D for utah valley university. Those we're great times till leadership changed and everything was ruined lol but i run a small little blu-ray group now that meets once a week. :D

starshinesMonet | 07-12-12, 10:32 PM
WOW - I don't think I've met anyone whose list reminded me so much of my own. I noticed that Hunter x Hunter is a favourite of yours. I loved the older series, but I have yet to brave trying the new one out. Have you seen any of it yet? What did you think, if so?

starshinesMonet | 07-12-12, 10:24 PM
I just watched Whisper of the Heart again for the first time since I first saw it years ago and imagine my surprise when what did I see but the world of Iblard Jikan had snuck in there!
