| What an impactful start! The abuse was so infuriating, so frustrating, but their connection with each other felt so natural, so, I don't know, human, it was like they clicked straight away. That opening scene with the tree in which they carved their dream was great too, I don't who is narrating it, and I don't know why I do this to myself, but I think I'm going to watch it all. They all seem to carry a really heavy emotional baggage too, and the time period is as "welcoming" as they get. I still didn't learn all of their names, but the ones I'm most interested in are Sakuragi, their "Bro", and Joe. The poor guy just tried to give back that doll to the girl, possibly because he was reminded of his sister or just because he is a good person, and ended up being scorned at, and getting the first beat up. That despicable fiend disguised as a "doctor" also seemed more interested on him than in the others. Well, the next episode seems to be focused on him so I guess that I have to brace myself for whatever hellish punishment is coming. |

| The first few seconds almost had me sold already and my initial impression solidified further down the road. Dramatic and gritty, exactly what you would expect of a series with such a premise, this is gonna be a gud ride. |

| I've seen this get praised alot, but I've also seen some criticism of it. I've seen some people call this suffering porn and in a way it's obvious why considering the setting this takes place in. It has to have the right balance of light & dark, hope and despair to not come off as shallow or plain edgy, so I really hope the latter doesn't end up being the case. Might be kind of difficult considering this take place in a post-WWII prison in Japan. If done right this could turn out like The Shawshank Redemption. |
| Wow.. am I ever late to the party. I just started this show and I am absolutely blown away. I watched the entire first episode with clenched fists. I was angry, yet sad. Anyone else hate the little girl at the beginning? (I know she's just a kid... but to go out of your way and toss the doll out the bus window in spite?) **** off, you little ****. Amazing intro to each of the characters and to Sakuragi of course. I have no idea what's going to happen, but am already seeing some foreshadowing. Should I stay away from getting too attached to any of the characters?.... I'm seeing death flags everywhere :'( |

| After being in an anime slump for a long time I am finally getting hooked to this series 😌 newer shows don't grab my attention anymore. I like that OP song too I watch it every time. And that main theme sounds cool too around the last 20 minutes. |

| Seems pretty cliched, not even dubbed. I don't know, seems like a generic show from this episode. Not a very strong opening. Cool guy cool rolled up a cigarette, but there are so many prison movies. Doesn't seem original at this point. |
