I'm talking about a #1 that far surpasses any other shows, for me I don't think I've found it yet, like yes the 10s I've given are splendid and I feel deserve the rank.

But I feel none of them give me my favourite anime vibe, is that even a thing?!

But as the question says, how long into watching anime did it take to find your all time favourite or are you still on the hunt to this day?

Edit: I feel for only watching anime for 1 year my tastes are bound to change, I can't wait to see how they do and what I may come across in the future

For me picking a favorite anime from my 10's would be nothing short of torture so I just consider them all there. I enjoy them equally albeit for different reasons. Helps prevent losing sleep over it.
Don't let others ruin things for you. Even if a toxic fan pisses in your cereal, you could just get another bowl of cereal.

I guess the shows that are my "#1" are Madoka Magica and 3-gatsu no lion.

I started getting serious with anime the moment I watched Madoka.

I guess I watched 3-gatsu about 1 year and a half into watching anime.

It's not the anime, but the light novel. I read Classroom of the Elite early 2020. It was what got me into light novels, and it is by far my favorite series of all time.

I first watched Madoka in probably around 2012, and that was my favorite for the longest time. It took me until 2017 to watch Rebellion, but hoo boy that immediately shot up to my 1# :)

Edit: As for how long it took me to find it? I started watching anime around 2009 or 2010, I can't quite remember. So a few years, but it's been a wonderful journey.

Approve of your MiA (+ the movie), Kizu and Steins Gate. As for how long it took for me to find my #1 show. Then not long at all. The problem is that it's often shifting. Or more accurately, it shifts the most when you're new and stabilizes itself the more you watch. I remember One Piece being my absolute #1 show when I was little. But now I don't even like it anymore.

Right now my #1(s) have been quite consistent for a long time. But I wouldn't just pick a single one. Since there are so many different genres and it would be weird to compare the best comedy with the best action for the spot of #1.

Either way, I would say something like Fate, Steins Gate and JoJo are probably my #1 shows each for their respective reasons. If I could ONLY pick one, which would be very hard since they're all pretty equal. Then probably Fate for anime. And JoJo for manga.

A good long while

I didn't watch Death Parade and Houseki no Kuni until 2020 because I simply thought "CG sucks" for HnK, and "This sounds like a zombie anime from the name, not interested."

My friend convinced to watch both of them and they've been my #1 and #2 ever since.

Im not sure if I have a number #1 anime. My top 2 are Steins;gate and Attack on titan but those are extremely close in terms of quality imo. I also have the Fate series, Oregairu, and Anohana which I all love. I'll have to wait and see how this final AOT season turns out.

If it turns out how people are hyping it up to be then its definitely gonna be my #1.

If everything I said is the case then it took me about 2 months after I started watching anime(I started in May) to find it.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

Lots of people are saying One Piece, or used to say One Piece, like I feel I would really enjoy it... but its the time and dedication, currently I'm in my "How many seasonals can I juggle" phase, I'll get out of that... hopefully

The only anime franchise that I have rated a 10 is Monster and I discovered it about 3 years after I got into anime. I have given 10's to individual seasons of other anime but not to any other series as a whole. It has been my favorite anime ever since then and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I watched anime since I was really young, maybe 2003, but I started watching anime regularly since 2009. I think I watched Clannad After Story in 2010, so it's not very long. My favorite list changed a lot before then, but after Clannad AS became #1, I haven't found anything that can top it. Tbh Mawaru Penguindrum was really close to be #1, but after so many years, and few rewatches of both shows, I can be sure that Clannad AS is my #1.

It found Clannad AS a little over a year after getting into anime (2011).

I got around to watch Steins;Gate in 2015, replacing Clannad.

Konohana Kitan came out at the end of 2017 and blew everything out of water.

To be continued.

I don't really have a #1, it swaps between a few regularly depending on my mood. But Monster is up there and it was the 3rd anime I ever watched, so pretty quickly. Lots of my other favorites I didn't discover until maybe 8-9 years later.

"They escaped the weight of darkness,
to forge a path into the marrow of the spirit.
They chose to drown in a deeper vacancy,
an emptiness that quells the null,
a pool for the forgotten..."

About 35 years if I count my childhood anime, 18 years if I go by the age I started watching anime as anime. I found it a few months ago and I just knew it's the one. I had the urge to re-rate my entire list after watching it.

I think one's idea of a #1 anime changes as they gain more experience watching anime. I honestly would have considered Naruto and DBZ as top animes when I was young. But my opinions changed as I got older and watched more anime. I still do of course acknowledge them for the enjoyment they gave me as a kid though.

If judging from October 2018, then it took ~10 months for me to find one.

My first two anime were The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I don't think I've found anything really better, Cowboy Bebop was at the same level, a Silent Voice was at that same level as well, Death Note (my first manga probably outside I've One Piece) the anime wasn't quite on the same level but really close.

So idk, I've found shows I appreciate as much or very slightly more but ultimately I started really strong.

#1 as in best or favorite?

From those that Ive seen the best is either NGE(probably this, not sure when, probably after finishing it) or Welcome to the NHK(ep. 11)

The favorite are One Piece(entertainment reasons)(Arlong Park) and DBZ(nostalgia)(dont know)

choosing a fav 10 is impossible for me, so I'll just use a random 10, I loved snk ever since 2013, I actually knew about the manga because it was a rec to Claymore which I loved, I didn't bother to read it because the art was horrible but I saw it was about soldiers fighting titans. I don't remember why I started watching it while it aired but I was charmed.

I watched my first in early 2018, and then a year and a half later I found HXH, which marks the point I started watching chinese cartoons on the regular.

I think the reason I actually watch anime is because HXH left such a gaping hole that I now feel the need to watch many different shows in order to find one that gratifies me even slightly as much as HXH did.
