We know that not EVERY manga adaptation is a disaster. Some are good, loyal to the original story and although that's a rare phenomenon, others are even better than the manga. What anime would you include on this list? (or wouldn't you?)

I always think of Berserk. I think it shouldn't be on the "related list" of this club! The anime is great: they've cut off unnecessary scenes (when Kentaro Miura dreams about being a hentai mangaka and forgets about the plot) and finish things before the story starts to lose its sense. Of course I wanted a more conclusive ending, but I don't think that's coming on the manga! And who liked Puck, anyway?

Well, just my point of view.

Nodame Cantabile anime was very loyal to the manga and is really well done, I love it a lot.

I think the anime of Excel Saga is even better than the manga.
The manga is great, but the anime is pure insane awesomeness.

But the biggest exception I can think about is Cowboy Bebop. The anime is like the best anime ever made, the manga is s**t.

Yup, Cowboy Bebop manga sucks, indeed. x_x
And was made after animated series, if I'm not wrong, what to me is even worse. ><

how about Basilisk ?
I never read the manga but if what is written about their differences on Wiki is true, I think I like the anime better.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, the humour from this series needs an animation. The anime is way funnier, even if the both follow the same history..

If the manga is based on an anime it's usually worse, while the manga is often better if it's the original. One exception, I think, is Rozen Maiden. The manga just... ended, and a lot more happened in the anime. I really hope Rozen Maiden Tale makes up for it, though.

And I strongly disagree about Berserk, like most sane people. The anime left out a lot of important stuff, and the manga is truly epic, with amazing artwork. I just couldn’t let it go unnoticed. :P

What about Monster? The adaptation is more than accurate; actually, i can't remember any significant differences between two versions at all.

Now that I think about it... I liked the anime of Trigun waaaaaaay more than the manga.

Oh, and Blood+. The manga is not bad, but the anime is another story, it's much more complete and awesome.

Orphen as well. The manga is just... eww.

Gah... I totally forgot about Elfen Lied :-/ I REALLY hate the manga. It's long, boring, the art sucks, and the anime is just superior. Not perfect of course, but surely better than the manga.
I dropped the manga after a couple of volumes, while I finished the anime in 2 days.

Magic Knight Rayearth and Trigun have a lot of obfuscated drawings that I'd rather see the action played out in the anime series. Although it is cool the author continued with Trigun Maximum.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The manga is good on it's own but the anime is what got me interested and I generally like how they handled the story better then the manga. I know there are a lot of opinions on this but It's late so I'll save it for another time.

Yes indeed. I think most of the anime which fall under the comedy and parody genre are better than their manga adaptation. See SZS, Maria Holic, and Excel Saga, for instance.

Princess Tutu's manga was kinda childish, while the anime was beautiful, emotional and had a better story.

I think that Code Geass anime is way much better than manga. The manga is too boring, there's nothing happening there! (when you remember all the wars and actions and stuff going on in anime) i started reading it but well i was toooooo bored to continue so it's the first manga that a have ever dropped O.o even the drawings in anime are much better than in manga ^^

Hmmm... The anime Tokko has more plot than the manga and it makes more sense, but that's not enough to correct how much of a disaster the manga was. I mean, there are two unrelated stories and the second one begins exactly in the middle!
and at first i liked the anime fullmetal alchemist better than the manga because the story was told in a better way and the art in the manga is not that good, but then the plot split and i changed my mind.
also, naruto is much better when it's animated, even though the fillers are annoying. same goes for bleach. the art is annoying, the fighting scenes are confusing and there are ink splashes everywhere. at least in the anime you can understand what's going on. (if anything at all. the nonexistent plot disappeared about 6 years ago.)

I think the Yu Yu Hakusho anime is better than the manga. The series is primarily fights-oriented and Yoshihiro Togashi doesn't know how to draw or pace the fights very well (and I'm somebody who often prefers manga fights), whereas they are spectacular in the anime!

I think the anime adaptation of Ouran High School Host Club deserves to be mentioned. I actually liked the anime better, at least for the chapters that are covered. I don't really care for the artwork in the manga, but I loved the animation of the anime. Plus I think some of the humor just works better when it is animated. It's a pity that they never finished it.

Another one is Pretear. I haven't read the manga, but the anime was fairly good.

Spoilers for Pretear

I've gotta say Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu. I think the anime looks better, flows better and it sticks more to the storyline of the light novels.

If I had to say one... it would be K-On. A manga about music, it's obvious that is going to be better if it actually have music. Without mention that it's a 4-koma so in term of artwork is better, just like every 4-koma. Also, I agree about Rozen Maiden, the manga make an unecessary loop to link first and second seasons and the ending of the anime is pretty good.

Definitely Yu Yu Hakusho.

Better art, awesome english dub, better pacing, and of course that epic soundtrack.
Salmon is delicious.
