My favorite genres within anime are romantic comedies and fantasy, but I also enjoy old school anime from the 1980s since I grew up watching some of that stuff when it was called Japanimation.
I'm putting my favorites watched in 2009 in the list on the left, but if you want my all-time top 10 shows before then here they are:

Since I'll watch just about anything, I also ask for specific recommendations for my anime-watching family members with the following criteria:
1. Appeal to mature audiences.
2. No ridiculous fanservice especially the ecchi kind.
3. Up to date graphics.
4. No boring teenage fights with ridiculous powerups.
5. Mystery, History, Sci-Fi good.
6. Should be released or coming very soon to video in the US. No fansubs!
7. Artistically Significant
