I can't stand Miyokichi, she crossed the line.

Yes, Kiku was cold and hurt her so much, but using Shin only for revenge and, the worst, having a kid. Such a bitch. Well, we could say that Kiku get what he deserves and more. With Shin... I have mixed feelings. I mean, I can't get completely mad at him because all that he lived and because he has a point with the preferencials treatments between Kiku and him, but MAN, YOU JUST NOT GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR BFF'S EX-GIRLFRIEND LIKE THAT. Geez.

Anyways, the worst thing is not happening yet and I don't feel prepared. I only know that, if Miyokichi is involved in Shin's dead, I'll never gonna hate more a fictional character.

From the begining I have always suspected of Miyokichi like being the killer of Shin. I think after that she comitted suicide. Then the revenge was, indeed, very serious. Well that's my opinion.

SAME. I didn't want to believe it but my suspicions are stronger now, especially after Miyokichi said Kiku that horrible line: "The next time I see you will be in hell."

Trust Miyokichi to talk about another man while she's about to fuck his best friend.

Their master was really harsh, I had a feeling that many people looked down on Sukeroku because of his background. I feel so sorry for him. He really wanted to become Yakumo but his master just didn't want to give that title to him because he's a Mudblood.

One of the best aspects of the anime.

This episode perfectly intertwined the built-up conflicts, truly captivating.

Sukeroku has it so bad. He has a loose mouth and actually speaks out what he thinks and it also makes sense. Now he lost all of it.

The Japanese can be the spergiest people on the planet with their rankings and powerlevels. I makes for decent drama, but I just cannot take seriously all that stiffness about inheriting titles and meeting with the elders when at the end of the day they are just storytellers whose worth is determined by an audience. The idea of someone holding the equivalent of a black belt at stand-up (or in this case sit-down) comedy is too absurd for me.

I don't know how but this show impress me more and more. This episode was fantastic! I love the friendship between sukeroku and kiku. They honestly are friends and just want to help each other. I knew it that kiku would say to their master to accept again sukeroku.
And about miyokichi, well, i never liked her, so i'm not impressed that she is trying to seek revenge because kiku dumped her. I'm just sad that sukeroku get involved with her. She is becoming more and more crazy..

Ahhhh yep, it hurt as much as I thought it would. Kiku asked Shin basically if he was okay with him initially getting to know Miyo, but Shin didn't give him the same courtesy. What hurts the most is how disconnected Kiku is to it, saying he has no place to find fault with him..

It's all just so intricately built up and wonderfully executed that you understand their actions due to the complexity of their circumstances and thoughts, which makes it all hurt that much more..

Worth reposting here. Sunrise (who Deen spun off from) produced their own Rakugo as a collaboration with this series about what else but Gundam. It seems to be based on the Carpenter piece that was featured in the first episode only with a Gundam twist.

Supposedly it's mainly to promote this Pachinko Machine but still a really interesting way to go about it when it could have gone a hundred different ways.

This is getting too sad and heart-wrenching for me. Seeing Shin-san together Miyokichi just didn't sit well with me to the point of it becoming unbearable. Even knowing before hand didn't help me. Kiku doesn't love Rakugo nearly enough as Sukeroku so why didn't he settle for Miyokichi. It pains me to see this injustice.

It just goes to show that history is repeating itself. It's as if both Sukeroku and Miyokichi will haunt him his entire life because of his lovesickness?
All that friendship and love for Rakugo being thrown away. Neither one seems happy without the other.

Its so sad seeing Kiku alone though. I can't help but blame him ultimately. He gained favor but is destroying everything around him.
The lone successor of a dying tradition.

Holy crap ... what an intense episode! So sad to see everything go wrong for people - Sukeroku gets expelled, Miyokichi has to quit, and Kiku's losing everyone around him ... oh man, right after they just got promoted too :( Miyokichi and Sukeroku get together and well, she's pregnant already and they're gonna leave to the country ... but man, so many confrontations with Yakumo too! Especially when Kiku refused the name and wow, especially at the end when he grabbed onto Sukeroku ... MY BAES <3 T_T
Other random notes: Kiku's hair is so long now! The animation looked a bit wonky at times too, but all the pretty scenes with the moon and the flowers made up for it :P Looks like the Yakumo master gets sick next episode and welp, that's gonna accelerate things in a hurry ... :S

"The next time I see you will be in hell" Wow, that's definitely not a good breakup. Kiku's not the only one, Shin had a rough breakup himself. I can't believe things went south so fast.

I agree with Shin, there really does need to be change. Tradition is important but with new forms of entertainment there is a pressing need to be dynamic.

Honestly. Does Miyo have no tact? You don't talk about an ex with your current partner, especially during a romantic moment. *sigh*

I feel terrible for Shin right now. I really hope things turn around for him! All this time we've only seen Kiku's troubles but it's totally thrown me for a loop to see Shin now in the hot seat.

One of the best episodes of the calendar year. Simply outstanding. It was a multidimensional ride of an emotional roller-coaster.

Hayashibara Megumi at her finest. When she said the next time they meet it will be in hell it was as if she really meant it, yet at the same time, as if she didn't (perhaps still clinging in to the slightest of hope that Kiku may return her feelings).

Miyokichi has zero dignity. I still want her to just go, pls go.

But the actual episode itself was soooo good.
They manage to put so much content into 23 minutes without making it feel needlessly rushed.
I mean they go through events very quickly for sure but that doesn't always mean that it rushed because it fleshes out those time lapses in such a natural way.

Ugh this is great.

From this point of view, the story does not catches me off guard, the events that have occurred today, were telegraphed and somewhat romanticized in some mometi; for the truth, the part that I appreciate is when Kiku and Miyokichi you leave, the sequence and the background music, were perfectly in tune, what a show! Now there will be only the downward trend for Sukeroku?

I don't hate kiku but as kiku dumped her, kiku deserves this kind of treatment. That was some outstanding episode, one of the best! Emotional rollercoaster! Miyo is toooo hot!

Miyo is such a sly lady. I can totally picture her singing the OP (which is AMAZING btw, haven't seen anything that snazzy since Ghost Hound). The lyrics match her so well.
I should've realized that she'd come between Shin and Kiku. And with both guys secretly jealous of each other's rakugo and the old conservative people mad about Shin, it was inevitable that they were gonna go their separate ways very soon.

Also, to anyone hoping it's gonna go well for Shin... did y'all even watch the first episode lol

So, is Konatsu Shin's daughter? I'm wondering as it doesn't seem so from the way Shin was talking to Kiku about Miyokichi being pregnant. He was talking as if it has nothing to do with him but that he will go with her anyway. However, he could be the father as Konatsu wants to get revenge on Kiku for supposedly killing her father. Can someone clarify?
In the first few episodes, Konatsu did say her father was Sukeroku and I think Kiku confirmed it as well. This episode shows who her mom was.

I read some posts saying that Sukeroku didn't deserve to be kicked and had his right to perform on stage. To be honest, I agree with those old farts lol At first, I thought they were being old fashioned and prideful. However, the more I see Sukeroku act (like drinking more and just being an overall bum), I think I wouldn't entrust the future of my beloved profession to someone who acts arrogantly and irresponsibly no matter their talent. Talent can only go so far.

I'm not saying that he should kiss the associations' asses but he should have been more diligent in his practices. I do understand that he devotes himself to rakugo wholeheartedly but he disrespects the process of being an artist. He lashes out his superiors and rebels against them by performing advanced work and uses his superiors' specialties to spite them. Could one really entrust the future of rakugo this type of man? And look how he basically gave up on rakugo when he found out that Kiku was getting the title.

It's tough being someone advocating for change within a profession that's so reliant on your country's centuries old traditions and values, isn't it Shin? His whole dialogue with Master Yakumo felt like a perfect depiction of the "nail that sticks out gets hammered down" that's still such an essential component of Japanese society even today. It's a shame Shin had to pay such a high price for his avant-gardiste way of thinking though, because he was definitely not in the wrong.

Aside from that though, this whole episode was probably the most intense the anime has ever been, with Miyo swearing to take her revenge and Bon and Shin's final confrontation being the two scenes that pretty much stole the show. I especially appreciated the last one because it cast Shin's character in a new light, providing the audience with a better understanding of his own personal complex towards Bon and reframing their relationship as much more balanced and complex than it might've seemed at first. I'm also left wondering whether getting pregnant and leading Shin away from Rakugo (and by extension Bon) is a part of Miyo's revenge.

This is exactly why I can't stand this prostitute trope. Now that she couldn't get the one she preferred, she turned to his close friend and easy prey out of spite. She is so obviously a leech, yet nobody seems to care or have any pride about it. I just can't fathom why men would be suckers for trash women like her and it takes me out of the story.

I thought I'd be more upset about Sukeroku and Miyokuchi getting together, but it was understandable. They were both at their lowest points and needed to find confort in another person. I'm not saying it's a healthy relationship or anything, but damn did this show pull it off.

The expulsion scene and the two breakup scenes were so well-directed.

The preview scares me a bit. We all know what will happen at the end, but I don't think I'm ready to see how it happens :/

Kiku really dodged a bullet there lol. Bitch is crazy.

Also, this episode confirms that she really does work as a prostitute and not the type of geisha that just entertains guests. Even more a of reason for Kiku to have "broken up" with her, only a cuck like Shin would be fine being with a woman that sleeps with other men. Not sure how she's certain the kid is Shin's either when she's still dealing with "customers."

Ugh, Shin had to get himself in trouble by badmouthing his master's rakugo. Bad timing, too, since Miyokichi was around...

Oh yeah, Miyokichi is evil. She's getting her revenge on Yakumo by stealing his best friend and ruining their promise to keep rakugo alive.
