THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Episode apparently pre-aired from Yahoo Premium and a web raw is out.

Well it was okay I guess?

The visuals looks somewhat cartoonish but the comedy was nice. I also liked the quality of the "action" bits and for most parts, I think the characters are amusing to watch. Jirou's personality was pretty much what I had expected. The comedy was spot on though and the music was nice, pretty sure they got a collection of them to use for remainder course of the season.

Lol:

The transformation scenes were pretty amusing. The machine unicorn or whatever made me laugh more than I had thought.

The artstyle and animation felt cheap at first, but I soon got used to it.

Apparently Jirou's job is to get rid of dangerous aliens, but jhe can't see them because he is a normal human. So he sought help from one of the superhumans, Hoshino to help seek them out. This episodes tells the story of how they met 5 years prior.

The magic felt very random, like they were created just to fit the plot... I can't decide whether to keep watching. I'll probably forget about it in a few days anyway.

Looked a bit cartoon-ish

"There are no regrets. If one can be proud of one's life, one should not wish for another chance." Saber

Didn't even know this was released.

Interesting start. I like the cool visuals. The MC is pretty cool, I guess. Don't disappoint, Bones.

My thoughts about the pilot episode:

Okay, The animation was a bit like a cartoon, but just fine. And the story was a bit interesting.
But the OP song was. The ED (and the OST) was fine. And both of it's animation was also fine.
I guess, I'll watch this anime when the story gets more interesting.

Okay from some guy that resembles Ultraman, to an evil alien that can reach godzilla's size, a magical girl, more superpowers, and a car that transforms... there are just so many things put in to this whole setting.

Despite all the jumping around in the time frame, it did show how Jiro got Kikko to join, the main groups involved and the reason why he had to quit (though not exactly clear, as Jiro's action hardly seemed bad).

It'll be interesting to see where this goes, but I was actually expecting more of a comedy outside of its innate absurdity.

Well, this show will most likely be the hidden gem this season, it has a unique plot structure and has the 'Bones-y' mecha feel to it. Liking the different art style too.

It appears both Sunrise and Bones are doing what they do best.

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. Truly baffled. Seems it's going for the episodic route though.

Amazing Backgrounds and the Style of the ED is pure love. The plot so far seems to go for confusing just for the sake of it, but maybe that spices things up a bit. Looking forward to more.

Can't really tell what's going on, but I think I can understand it a bit toward the end.
MC quit the team and now being chase by his ex-team.
Hm...Can't say for sure if I like it or not yet, one more episode and I should be able to make up my mind.

From what can i see the story is pretty absurd but it doesn't take itself seriusly soo that's a good thing, the action was amazing and present really well it's characters. There where scenes thet felt all out of place there, at least it made sense at the end.

Already love the animation, though sometimes feels a bit choopy, the art exceels.

Till now the most promising of the season along OPM and owari, IMO.

Yeah, for people who confused, this is the point of episode 1.
There are two timeline / setting.

The first is year 41 shinka, where Jiro met Kiko
and the second is year 46, this time Kiko trying to capture Jiro because he left the bureau.

And what connect them together is the man behind grossorgen in year 41. Kiko believe for 5 years that he already dead because Jiro's decision. But actually Jiro saved him by giving his new body to transform (S Yuuseijin which he captured). And at year 46, that man showed up and even help Jiro to escape from Kiko.

So far that's the main story. Probably they will explain why Jiro did such an action (quits bureau and pursued by his ex-team) in further episodes (or just gonna cram it again just like this episode).

But the point is, something happened between those 5 years, and in year 46 Jiro is the bad guy (?)

Not sure how to feel about this. Contains Magic + Mecha, two things I dislike.
Color palette looks interesting and pop artsy, setting looks a bit retro so that's on the plus side.
I have no idea what just happened, that progressed way too fast.

I hope I wasn't the only one that expected this to be a bit more badass and a bit less magical girl...
kinda disappointed.
Seems like a few of this seasons animes are turning out this way (Comet Lucifer, Heavy Object)
Hopefully it will take on a more serious tone as the plot progresses.

Oh my god it's Punchline all over again.

If your anime works in a different logic than ours, you might as well start with something light to ease you audience in. Zero character establishment, confusing and jarring scene transition, reveal major plot line just three minutes into the anime without giving any preliminary information about the universe. What a great start! But don't worry it's still not as bad as info-dumping for 5 minutes straight. Or is it?

Random tropes! References! I don't know they can make anime using a food processor.

I hate original anime now.

I really wasn't sure if I was going to like it because it looked Very "Gatchaman"-y and I wasn't too big on Gatchaman.

Though, this story seems promising. It would be nice if they would stop being so Bipolar about the year 41 and 46, and maybe do an episode for 41, then an episode for 46 to make it a little easier to follow.

Although, I do like the premise.

I have the most polarizing view of this show.... At points I'm like "look at all the pretty colors and cool superhero stuff happening with mechs galore." Other times I'm like "Is there really a point for having all these flashbacks and flash-forwards?

And sure the characters look interesting but some proper introduction would be nice :S

Well it held my attention, so that is a major plus.

Good start. So basically the pink haired dude used to work for that super hero association, but he doesn't anymore and is now hunted by them for disobeying their orders. Liked the art style, the soundtrack was good and I'm enjoying the wackiness of the setting.
I have high hopes for this, as I feel it could end up being a better version of Kekkai Sensen.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I think, it's more like one where you have to pay attention to small details and dates (pretty much like Punch Line and i really liked that one).

The more i think about this episode, the more i like what i saw. I hope, they focus on storytelling and make it like Memento (i love that movie for it's unique storytelling), that would be sick.
