 A scan of the 43rd issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday magazine, which will go on sale on September 23, revealed that manga Dagashi Kashi will be receiving an anime adaptation. The format for the anime has yet to be announced.Dagashi Kashi is written and illustrated by Kotoyama. It began serialization in Shounen Sunday magazine in June 2014. The manga is currently ongoing, with two compiled volumes published. Synopsis Shikada Kokonotsu's father owns a rural sweets shop, and his plan is for Kokonotsu to take it over one day. However, Kokonotsu wants to be a manga author instead! One day in Summer, the cute but weird girl Shidare Hotaru, from the famous sweets company, comes to pay a visit. Apparently, Kokonotsu's father is famous and she wants him to join her family's company. However, he will only agree if she can convince Kokonotsu to take over the family business! | Publishing since June 2014? Only two volumes out? And it's already getting an adaptation? This screams like either rushed or a short five minute series. I don't see why they didn't just wait a little longer before adapting. I've seen some doujins of this series (believe me there's a ton already) and that main girl is something else. It's kinda crazy how popular this series is over in Japan. Will check out the manga to see what all the fuss is about, though I'm sure it's just because of the waifubait. That main girl has a great, great design. |

Good news to be sure, I've been enjoying the manga. |
| Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssss This can work just with two options 1. Dogakobo makes it, they've showed that they know their shit adapting short chapters manga (Gekkan Shoujo, Himouto, etc) 2. It's a 5minutes thing. |

| Nice, the mangas great so I'm super excited for this one. The only issue I have here (a lot of people here have already pointed this out) is that there currently isn't a ton of material to work with, so I don't know if that's enough for anything other than a short series, but I guess it all depends on when it's set to air. I knew Shidare and Dagashi Kashi were popular in Japan but I didn't realize how big she was with the doujin crowd. I should have figured though, she really cute. Ha, I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, but my theory is that it has a double meaning/pun. Dagashi shops sell cheap candy, snacks, and sometimes toys, targeted primarily to children who are given small allowances (often seen in slice of life anime in rural neighborhoods managed by an old lady). The Kashi would refer to the candies they sell. But if the title is read quickly without pause, it can mean "however" in Japanese, as you implied...The title seems to also relate to the plot, since the protagonist is pressured to take over the shop, however he refuses because he wants to become a manga artist instead. So I don't think you're totally wrong in that regard. I wouldn't be surprised if they aired this in summer 2016, since it would coincide with the season primarily featured in in the manga. |
