So, personally i don't mind fan service as long as it isn't excessive or brought in during emotional moments. However, if im watching an anime and my mom walks in to me watching akame ga kill and sees the scene where Esdeath tries to bang tatsumi, it has me feeling like damn you fan service! But anyways, what do you guys think of fan service in anime? How much is too much?

Same as you op... And it's only too much if it basically makes it into a hentai when it's not supposed to be or if the show just doesn't have a good plot. Then the fan service is just the whole show which is boring and goes along with the first part.

Anything less than 100% fanservice is a waste of my time, why else would I be watching it?

It's okay in small doses, just as long as nothing is too out of proportion.

And what's really sad, is that a lot of fanservice IS out of proportion these days, not to mention the fact that I don't find 2000s/2010s Anime girls attractive.

So I tend to stick with "Family Shows" when it comes to post-2005 Anime.

fanservice is fine. it can make good comedic material. However if the anime is just one big ass breast-fest with nothing else that entertains me then I get annoyed - only anime to do that so far is Nisemonogatari.

I believe every anime needs a certain amount of fan service present or else it just won't feel like anime. But not too much of course

very yay
some series only get my attention if there's tons of fanservice. No damn way I would bother with any LN harem anymore if there wasn't any ecchi.

Lol. I always laugh out loud anytime I see your comments. Keep it up.

To op question. I don't have a problem if a series has fanservice or not.

As I've said it's not important to me and too much can ruin a show so I don't really see the need for it personally.

It depends on how it's done and when it's done.
There are some ways in which it's done that it's just plain obnoxious, and other times it feels like there is too much fan service in a single episode.

But for the most part, I don't really care much for fan service. It's just one of those things I've accepted as being the norm in anime.

Fanservice =/= ecchi

And either are fine. I like both though I do admit that ecchi isn't done the best that it could be. Most ecchi anime are average at best.

You can laugh all you want, but at least I'm still watching some newer Anime, which is better than not watching any at all.

It works for me when it's part of the storyline like in Kill la Kill. Cliches like boys seeing a girl's panties or falling onto their breasts do nothing for me. If you want to see panties, watch Najica Blitz Tactics.

Nui in Kill la Kill would disagree (spoilered for size):

Meh Monogatari is basically just self indulgent fanservice anyways and I personally thought that scene was absolutely hilarious and so well done.

I like sexual fan service when I'm looking for fan service. I just don't like it when it's either out of place or done distastefully. Saying it's all bad is absurd, but it's just annoying when such scenes show up in conflicting circumstances. That being said, I particularly like sexual fan service to begin with, but I still watch them since they do surprising things.

For example, I watched Chuu Bra expecting a throwaway filler show, but it ended up being an introductory course on women's underwear, their function, how they're fabricated, social perceptions, and while it's still a comedy, at times it gets serious when addressing the awkwardness of the subject. It's still a clumsy and heavily perverted show, but the extra steps it takes to explain itself was much more than I expected.

I find it to be harmless when it's used appropriately and it stays out of the bounds of serious storytelling. There's a time and place for it. It's always unnecessary, but not unwelcome at the right times.

Good fanservice/ecchi - Strike Witches because it establishes itself as a fun pantsu party from the start.

Bad fanservice/ecchi - SAO tentacle/rape-vibe scenes, completely off tempo from the tone of what's going on.

in ecchi/harem shows i think it is ok to have fanservice since that is the opint of the entire show.

In more mature seinen shows fanservice/nudity is fine as long as it is not silly for example if there was a pantyshot out of nowhere in a more serious show I would hate that but if it was handled in a more mature manner I think it would be a good thing which would actually add more to the story. For example I thought fanservice was handled very well in gankutsuou.

In romances I think the fanservice should be somewhat limited random beach or hot spring episodes for the sake of fanservice is stupid in my opinion. It is ok to have fanservice if the anime shows the couple(s) being intimate with each other that would provide fanservice as well as give the relationship more meaning.

In the more calm/peaceful SOL shows I hate fanservice. I would hate it if shows such as mushishi had fanservice. My main complaint with Aria was the beach episode where I felt the fanservice was completely unnecessary (although to be fair there wasn't a lot of fanservice involved)

I don't particularly care for fanservice, I don't mind it too much but I prefer less over more. Paradoxically, I mostly watch harem comedies with a lot of fanservice, I blame it on watching anime with friends.

Would still rate some anime higher if they had less fanservice though. (high school dxd for example, which is why I prefer the LN)

Only in anime can you have a somewhat vampire vigorously brush his sisters teeth in a sexual way. Didn't know how to really feel when i saw that scene lol.
