In some ways I prefer reverse harems (shoujo) to regular ones (shounen/seinen). The guys just seem more reliable and likable than the dense or pervy beta males in harems and admittedly the heroine in RHs is usually my type (when she isn't an automated doll...Amnesia!...).

there's nothing wrong with a girl watching shonen, than why did you feel it strange for a guy to watch shojo? nothing wrong with it, just enjoy what you enjoy.

If you talking about anime such as Chihayafuru,Natsume yujin chou,Kimi ni todoke, then you are not strange at all or not even minority, those anime have higher viewer ratings among male than female.

If you talking about anime such as Free or Sekai ichi hatsukoi, then you are part of minority if not strange.

I could never enjoy it and personally I find it a bit weird, but to each his own.

I don't find girls watching Shounen weird at all though. I actually like girls liking more traditionally "male oriented" things, but guys liking female oriented stuff has never clicked with me.

That statement goes beyond Anime but you are probably right. By your standards, no one has watched even a moderate amount of Anime.

Doing a rough estimate, I've only watched 2,500 episodes of Anime over 17 years of watching it. Not to mention, all the stuff I don't even bother listing.

I've never met someone on this forum, with a bigger stick up their ass. 22k posts+a life spent on Anime. Congratulations you win the Otaku-King reward. We will send it to you virtually because God-forbid you see some sunlight.

Honestly, people like you make me embarrassed to be an Anime fan. You are the definition of socially awkward and an ass. I think you literally take pleasure in quoting and disagreeing with every statement I make or using it as a chance to attack me.

@RichtheLionheart: Don't take him that seriously. What he meant was that you can't really say "Males who watch female orientated stuff is weird" when you haven't seen a lot of female orientated anime yourself. You're making it sound like all female orientated stuff is girly and/or childish, when there are a lot of shoujo that males like such as Kimi ni Todoke, or Natsume Yuujinchou.

You're the one who sounds like you have a stick up your ass. Taking a simple comment about your experience(which is valid due to the topic) and turning it into this(half of which is personal insults).

You do realize that half or more of those 2,500 episodes are from about 5 - 10 anime(One Piece and DBZ together are over 1/3 of it). This isn't about episodes watched it's about anime watched. It's common sense that people who are new to the medium usually have more closed taste. They haven't yet branched out among the many genres. And along the way realized that shoujo, shounen, seinen, and josei anime aren't really that different since all they are, are demographics and don't decide the content. And I like how you're assuming I mean that you need to watch like 1,000+ anime to realize this, usually it's a hundred or two depending on what genre the person was interested in at the beginning. Most of the more experienced watchers I've met have a wide taste including many genres, demographics, types, etc.

I won't give you the satisfaction of lashing back at you with insults so you can continue going around like I'm attacking you.

I'm sure plenty of girls watch shonen anime as well and that isn't strange.

Except you've misunderstood something. If you're talking about the 'general shoujo' anime. Well, nothing strange here. If you're talking about stuff from Kirara magazine, its perfectly normal. But if you're talking about otome adaptation, well something is very wrong with you.

In the majority of cases, the guys tend to lack a sex drive and treat the heroine right. It's the ideal special treatment of being treated like a princess.

What's strange is that you have to ask.. that makes me think you personally feel there is something wrong with it, IMO. As for my opinion, I think it is fine. It would be like saying a female that likes shounen is weird... doesn't make sense, does it?

Depends on what kind of shoujo you watch. Magical girls are pretty mainstream between otakus, or even comedies for that matter, but dramatic love stories where the MC has fallen in love with a "bad-tempered, cold, heartless" guy is.... worse.

Yeah it's less weird for 'young adult males' to watch a decent romance aimed at 'young adult females' than some mahou shoujo show aimed at 9 year old japanese girls. I don't care what Otaku do, but my common sense keeps telling me it's the other way around, if there has to be any differentiation at all. But you don't seem to have any experience with shoujo romance and just spouted some generic cliché line to describe a whole genre with a lot of variety in it, so I probably lost this argument the moment I took you seriously anyway.

Also a lot of people seem to confuse otome games with shoujo manga in this thread. Diabolik Lovers or Amnesia are bad because they are otome game adaptions, but they have barely anything in common with decent shoujo/josei romances like Nana, Kimi ni Todoke, Nodame Cantabile or Ao Haru Ride.
I probably regret this post by now.

And yet in so many H otoges or shoujo you have to have that one asshole who either sexually assault or straight up rape the heroine.

Not really, I don't watch otome/reverse harems or regular harems to self insert so that's irrelevant. Uta Pri, for example, has plenty of great songs and I enjoyed the comedy. Not everyone decides what they'll watch based on their penis.
