Anime production studio Kyoto Animation launched "Kyoto Animation Award", an award for the original creations of novels, manga and scripts. Winners of the award will have a chance to get an anime adaptation by Kyoto Animation if the works receive high esteem.

Anyone can participate in the competition and the winners of the first year will be announced next Spring.

that's good. so long as kyoto don't troll whatever adaptation they do, i'm sure we'll be seeing an excellent adaptation and potentially good anime.

Knowing Kyoto Animation, they will probably pick generic moeblob shows ahead of anime with genuinely good plots and characters, but ther may also be the chance that they could pick better material to adapt from that genre as well.

I haven't read any of their manga, but I prefered Manabi Straight!, Kamichu!,and Ichigo Mahimaro to K-ON!, Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star even though I would conider all of them to be moeblob anime.

A good thing about KyoAni is that they really CAN make perfect adaptations. As for their original plots, everything is much worse - remember Munto. Thankfully, they've decided to do what they are really good at

I support the concept, but I'm a little suspecting of what KyoAni might pick. We'll see how it pans out.

Hmmm... This is interesting because I don't know what to expect from KyoAni; if they would pick the typical sellable moe or actually something unique. Just have to wait and see. ^^

I don´t really know what did you mean, but they will only accept entries in japanese... and in the inscription sheet, doesn´t see any "country" option ... so I guess it will be only japanese entries.

Full Metal Panic would like a word with you.

This is interesting news. Hopefully they'll try to do something more unique than what they usually do. And if not, at least animate Little Busters first >.>

Last time KyoAni tried to do something unique and different, no one looked forward to it and it never even aired (looking at Tonari no 801-chan >.>) So, it's only natural that KyoAni's gonna pick another show in the same vein as their Key adaptations and K-ON! from this contest. Or the same people who complain about KyoAni doing the same old stuff will whine and bitch for doing something different.

GONZO animated the first season, so they already knew that it was going to be popular before acquiring the rights to animate the sequals. This will probably not be the case here, unless they want to tkae a departure from what their fans expect (they won't).

Even if another studio didn't animate the prequal, Chidori is considered to be a Tsundere, and therefore moe.

But with submissions, and the amount of creative Japanese, who knows?

wow are the pickings really that slim in the already completed or in progress manga and VN universe? Where's this Little Busters I keep hearing about? Or the Haruhi spoof with the angels or something that was mentioned a bit ago? well regardless I love Kyoani and it's cool that they're giving an outlet to undiscovered talent. LET'S GO INDIES!! WOOOO *flashes*

Where is my proper Haruhi sequel or where is Little Busters that seems to have so much support or maybe a K-On season 2, why is this needed?

They'd do those anyway, I'm seeing this as an opportunity for them to pick up more serious works.

KyoAni giving out an award for the creation of something original is hilarious. Seriously they're bloody good at what they do, FMP 2nd Raid still hasn't been surpassed in regards to mecha series since it aired. But they can't do an original production period, lol @ Munto, how terrible.

I'll never regard them as being in Bones, I.G and Madhouses's league until they can produce something original that's actually good.

This will be interesting either way. I imagine something whould have to be REALLY spectacular to get a longer adaption so I'm expecting an interesting short work out of this.

You haven't seen much of Studio 4c's work, have you? 00;

Anyways, that's cool that KyoAni is taking suggestions from the fans. It'll be interesting to see what the end result is.

Kyoto animating new minori's visual novel? FUCK YEAH.

Maybe we will get 2 versions: SHAFT's and KyoAni's.
