| Talking to my friend helped me realize how unique I feel Josuke has been introduced. With Jonathan, Joseph, and Jotaro, their core personalities were grasped quickly, the nuances were what followed. For instance, by introducing Joseph as a charming who's good with his words, has a dangerously short temper, and is saving a young man being harassed by corrupt cops we get his foundation within a matter of pages. For me at least, Josuke is, as my friend put it, unpredictable. I don't know what his core essence is just yet and we have finished the first arc! In this way I feel he is the most mysterious of the lead Joestars! I mean, just look at his last name! How do you even pronounce that!!!? (Joke) Aqua Necklace not only evokes Hierophant Green's possession through crawling into the body, but also the image of Geb's watery form hiding in bottles! As for Angelo himself, he has a contradictory air of self-righteousness to him; hating those who leave dog poop around while doing immeasurably worse things. As for Josuke and his mother, after revealing Josuke's wit also came from her, his mom was possessed by Aqua Necklace. Moments prior, Josuke showed concern over her emotional state regarding Joseph,and he proved his concern with action by punching a hole through her and using his stand in a complex and clever way. This scene revealed that his love of his mother may parallel the anger he feels when people make fun of his hair, both triggering his badass mode, but moreover, it also showcased how confident he is in using his stand. To do such a complex manoeuvre while punching through the mother he seems to clearly care about, he must have had little doubt and much practice. We have already seen him use it thrice in one day after all. I also thought about what it must feel like for the person who Josuke punches through before fixing and, if you cannot see stands, the brief moment that occurs you would have probably thought you imagined that feeling and experience. Similar to how those who saw Jotaro teleport put it behind them as something they couldn't even begin to understand. |
