Everytime I come accross a picture of Angel Beats, Clannad, Or Anohana I see people always comment " cried so much" or " the feels ". And I always question myself if they really did cry or they are just exaggeratting or trying to be cool to fit in. I did watch all 3 of those anime and many others and I admit they are very sad but I dont even get the urge to tear up or anything. Only time I cried watching an anime was when DBZ ended on tv back when I was like 8 or 9 years old lol. So either I'm one cold bastard or these people trippin'. What do you guys think? Did you cry for real?

Emotional effect has a wide spectrum. Same deal for you with great films, or just anime?

No. Everyone who has ever said that they cried during an anime was lying, and just wanted to sound cool on the interwebz.

Many people respond differently to emotions, whether it's crying or shriveling up into a fetal position. Respect how other people feel OP.

So rude :(((

The majority of people are just feeling emotional and what to put their level of "feels" on a pedestal but there are some who've cried watching shows.

Just as an example, I cried three times in the last two episodes of Kamen Rider Fourze and it wasn't even that sad. However, I remember talking to this fat black girl who was watching the Anohana movie just a couple days ago, and two minutes into she's like "oh shit these feels, I'm crying so hard right now" while that's obviously not the case.

It just so happens that whenever people want to make it sound like they had emotional reaction to a show they'll say something retarded like "feels" or claim they cried, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I have cried during a lot of anime of a lot of different genres. Battle shounen, romance, slice-of-life, sports, comedy. When it's that good it's that good, that's all there is to it.
I probably regret this post by now.

I've probably definitely cried to some anime before, can't remember specifically which or when.

I remember crying during Refrain in the Little Busters VN even though I didn't really like the rest of it.

Bro, do you even Clannad AS discussion forum ?

I usually get teary-eyed watching very sad moments in anime/movies that I care about, but the last time I remember crying my balls out was while watching the last episode of Mawaru Penguindrum (man, that was awful : the tears just wouldn't stop).

I find it very difficult to cry over anime that have forced drama, like Anohana and Angel Beats. Were they sad? Yeah, i guess. But when the entire purpose of a show is to try to make you cry, it's forced as hell and actually doesn't work. Gintama's comedy and drama flows like a waterfall. It's just done really well so i teared up a couple of times watching it.

Everyone has different emotions when watching an anime. I tend to be emotional when it comes to watching sad anime or even beautiful ones, reading manga especially with music on. I'm pretty emotional to stuff like that. So watching AnoHana I cried so much. I really didn't expect to cry a lot, but starting around the last 3 episodes I cried a lot. People have emotions so of course some would cry. Part of watching an anime is to have some sort of emotion whether it's sad, happy, mad, or whatever.

I don't think I've ever cried from watching an anime. The most emotional I've gotten was probably from a few visual novels. I know I've been teary eyed at least once or twice then...

Hmm... I MAY have cried a bit the first time I watched Grave of the fireflies, but I'm leaning towards no. Usually whenever something really hits me, I just get this heavy feeling.

ACTUALLY, I think I did cry a bit during some parts of one piece.

I cried so often, that I couldn't count it. In the anime's your listed I always cried like a bitch. When you watch an anime you have to feel it. That's why I don't want to watch more than 4-6 (depending on the lenght) episodes from one serious anime in one day. If it's just comedy or something it doesn't matter.
The longer I watch something, the closer it will get to me.

So yeah, you're a cold bastard.

I usually tear up at some point during an anime. I've had tears streaming down my cheeks during Clannad and AnoHana. I'm not an emotional person in day to day life but there's something about anime that gets me. In fact, I only remember crying once in the last few years that wasn't related to anime but I don't know why (got really drunk and woke up crying, was pretty confusing)

Edit: Trying to think of some less common examples of anime that people would cry about

at the very end of Seriel Experiments Lain
Beck
Gosick
K-ON!

and of course every anime that has the slightest bit of romance in it. I don't really like melodrama like in Angel Beats! or Little Busters! but I still cried, I'm just a crybaby I guess

Yes because that's the 'best justification' for giving those shows a 10/10. Its like,

Me: What's so good about those shitcakes man?

Your normal crying bitch : Oh, I cried and cried at every scene. It was so fuckin' sad. I swear I had an acute loss of body fluids after finishing those shows. I'm off to cry some more again.

AnoHana I have no idea because I haven't seen it.

But Angel Beats! wasn't sad at all... I think people bullshit when they say they cried. Hmm... maybe they are just that sensitive?

no angel beats was sad if you accepted the stories unconditionally. if you question them at all it became much less sad

The only scene that (nearly) got me in the series is when
I'm feeling indifferent to the rest of the scenes. Most people find the ending much sadder which I have no idea why since

tear dropping feeling heavy on the heart and sad in some cases yes. I think its only natural if you try to understand the character that you been watching for past couple of episodes.
