Registration is closed!

Thanks to everyone who registered for FAL Spring 2014! This season has a total of 404 teams, that's again a new record! Good luck everyone, may the best team win!

Listed below are the initial teams for this season. Please note that we won't edit this list as the season progresses. Instead you'll find a detailed overview of your team's status for every week later in the FAL club forum. Make sure to join and frequently check the FAL club for the newest information.

Please check the list to see if your team is correct. The titles are sorted alphabetically and the order doesn't matter but make sure that your active team and bench are correctly separated. If you spot a mistake, please report it by sending a PM to FALbot before Friday April 4th, 23:59 UTC. We will only accept corrections if your team is different from the one you sent us. You can't swap titles if you changed your mind (not even between active team and bench).

I've no idea that No Game No Live is this popular. I've read the first volume and it is good but I don't know it will be the fourth highest here.

Mahouka first and Mekakucity Actor second isn't really surprising.

And my team is unique again this time.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

I'm surprised I only share my active team with Stark (which I knew beforehand) and my whole team only with 2 more people and Stark.

I'm glad though, because being part of the columns of 10 or more people having the same team would not be that great considering the possibilities of huge stalemates decided by the random effects of nukes in the last week (like Spring 2012 FAL).

Anyway, looking forward to this season. I still think not banning Mahouka will make this season less interesting than last season, but we'll see.
I probably regret this post by now.

I knew there were some mind games going around regarding whether to choose Mushishi or Jojo Stardust Crusaders. I went with my guts since I read the manga and I think people will enjoy it more although Mushishi will surely score high with rankings/favorites in the end.

Looks like me not picking Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou was a good decision for now considering my predictions aren't even close to getting a bonus from it and I wasn't sure which of the others would get it either, and even with such wouldn't have a high score anyways in the PTW section. And after went on in one of the previous season, I don't have much faith in Noitamina shows for high scores this season. Gl everyone :3

So Mahoka has like 75% pick rate, and No Game No Life is fourth. I have to say, a lot of faith has been put into Madhouse. I hope that they do better than their recent performance.

My goal for this season is to beat EVERYONE that has the same 7 series but different active team/bench distribution as me. Since I'm in the largest group, this could be quite a challenge not to make any mistakes... And somehow, this group is consist of the 7 top picks. o_o

I have a unique team for the 1St time in years. And having the same active team as FAL veteran BlueYoshi is the highest of honors. Hoping that Brynhildr and Akuma underperforms, and Ishuukan to be the dark horse this season. Good luck to everyone, and here's to my goal of finishing in the top 50!

I've had a unique team 5/5 times. It's what happens when you don't play to win.

Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii is my double-pointer this season, huh? That could make things interesting. I'd thought I would swap that out for Hitsugi no Chaika as soon as the latter started airing, but double points could change that.

I was just to make a similar post in regarding Gokukoku no Brynhildr. Three things worries about it right now are

1) No license. Who is going to license this show?
2) One cour - expect rush/anime original ending which will likely end up with lower favorites, rankings, etc
3) ARMS....they kinda fucked up with Wizard Barristers this season imo especially in the second half and I was never a fan of their studio.

Still, there's a chance to swap it out for a bench later. Isuukan Friends could pull through as a dark horse and possibly Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou too.

One question though I had is why so many people picked Dragonball Kai (2014) ....anyone want to fill me in?

So, my wildcard team was more or less a success. Kenzen Robo Daimidaler is on double points for the entire season, and Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka has an extremely trollish 17 members, but since only active teams count for double points, if someone neglects their bench, that should be double points for the season too.

The main feature of my team is the lack of the overwhelming favourite, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei. To be perfectly honest, it will most likely finish in the top 5, but I don't see it at the very top. High PTW, Japanese popularity and Aniplex funding are the main things it has going for it, but I have question marks on how any adaptation is going to be handled. Manabu Ono only previous directed work was Kyoukaisenjou no Horizon, which had a pretty lukewarm reception from the MAL audience. Overall, it seems set to end up similarly to Little Busters in the Fall 2012 with fewer discussion points, but probably offset by slightly higer number of watchers compared to things around it.

But most importantly, I thought it would be more fun to run a team without Mahouka, since I wasn't sure enough about everything else to make a serious team to go for the win, and that is what is pretty much required for me to improve on my 3rd place last season (I'm FOE-tan, btw)

Anyway, my team. The number in brackets is where it lies in popularity on other FAL teams:

Black Bullet (3rd): I mostly picked this because I'm not running Mahouka, but its inclusion on my team is probably a mistake. Kinema Citrus had another fairly fancied anime in Fall 2012 by the name of Code:Breaker, and that didn't end up doing so well. What this has over Code:Breaker is that they have the scriptwriter and director of the Monster's anime adaptation, but it's one thing to direct one of the most beloved manga by one of the most famous manga-ka, and another to direct an action-genre LN on what is likely to be a low animation budget. I hope I'm wrong, but I think I would have been better off with Akuma no Riddle or a rating-scorer like Stardust Crusaders here.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou (15th): The reasoning behind this one is pretty simple. It should be a light-hearted romcom that airs on the first day that actually matters FAL-wise, and that's a pretty good position to be in, since it will probably gather a lot of watcher anxious to see what the first batch of new anime are like, although this advantage is perhaps not as important as it was in previous FAL seasons due to how we are still talking about Thursday/Friday here, rather than Monday or Tuesday like it was with Coppelion last season. Regardless, it should be able to do a job for my team.

Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara (19th): Anyone familiar with my team from last season shouldn't be too surprised to see this on my team, considering how instrumental NouKome was in propelling my to 3rd place last season. Hoods isn't the best studio to be associated with, but that didn't stop Gokukoku no Brynhildr from being the 5th most chosen anime, even though Arms are in a similar boat to Hoods. Anyway, this seems like the kind of series where the people most likely to drop it simply won't pick it up in the first place, and there is always an audience for a comedic LN romp like this one, so like Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou, it should be able to do a job in providing some stability in what is overall an extremely unstable season.

Kenzen Robo Daimidaler (34th): And now, we come to the fun part of my team. Enter Kenzen Robo Daimidaler, the ultimate wildcard in what is essentially a wildcard team. I see this as being pretty much the exact opposite of Mahouka, Almost nobody plans to watch it, nobody had heven heard about the LN before it got announced, but the studio and key staff are the as the ones behind Highschool DxD, one of the most popular ecchi series of the decade from a MAL perspective. Not only that, it also happens to be on a grand total of 9 teams, which guarantees double watching points for the entire season, offsetting the disadvantage of having a ecchi + mecha combo, rather than the more popular ecchi + demon one. They say opposites attract, and if that's true, it may very well be jostling for a top-5 place with Mahouka ...Or it could just flop like everyone expects it to, but it wouldn't be any fun if it wasn't likely to fail like that.

Selector Infected WIXOSS (13th): If Daimidaler embodies the spirit of the team, then Selector Infected is very much its backbone. My entire season depends on Takuya Sato ("Chief" Director of Steins;Gate) and Mari Okada (scriptwriter for lots of things, most notably AnoHana) being able to pull off what appears to be a "cute girls suffering in a survival game" type of anime. Survival game anime tend to be extremely popular on MAL, going off things like Gantz, Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland. Combined with staff members with known MAL hits, I think this has a real chance of finishing FAL at the very top. However, as an original anime, there is an inherent risk of it simply being forgotten like Samurai Flamenco was. Still it airs on the first relevant FAL day, on the same channel as and immediately after the much-anticipated Akuma no Riddle, which puts in a much stronger position than Meikakucity Actors in that regard.

And my bench:

Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka? (28th): Being on 17 member's teams overall is extremely trollish, as 16 is the maximum number of active teams it can be on before losing its double-points bonus. However, if other Gochuumon-using teams neglect to actually use their swaps, then it's pretty much guaranteed to stay at 16 or under for the entire season. As for my expectations for, it's cute girls doing cute things, another genre with little representation this season, that pretty much guarantees it an average-above average audience bolstered by double points, though the two non-otome Bran's Base anime may encroach on its viewership a bit.

No Game No Life (4th): The other reason I didn't pick Mahouka. No Game No Life is directed by Atsuka Ishizuka, who also directed Sakurasou no Pet Kanojo. One of the surprise hits of Fall 2012 that managed to out-score Little Busters overall. Well, I have the sneaking suspicion that she can do it again with this series, although it will be much less of a surprise this time around, the situations are still pretty similar (being a less fancied anime made by the same studio as the overwhelming favourite for that season's FAL), so why can't it happen again? A different scriptwriter, perhaps, but Jukki Hanada's name is associated with anime including Steins;Gate and Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai, so that isn't too much of a concern for me.

I might post about potential threats to this team later but this will do for now.

Because they see the 'Dragonball' and thus assume that it must be hugely popular?

I'm interested in seeing just how many people watch Mushishi. How many of the MAL users who watched the original are actually still around? And of them, how many will watch this new season? If it takes off it could end up competing for #1 score out of everything this season. If it flops it could end up being merely a slightly stronger version of Jojo. Speaking of which, it's surprising how many people picked Jojo given how badly the last season did from FAL (finishing 18/31 and not coming top 10 in any week). Do people not pay attention to that sort of thing? I mean sure, FAL rules have swung slightly in favour of the not-many-watch-but-those-who-do-love-it style series, but unless there's been a bigger shift then that series is just going to waste a bench space for the teams out to win.

Second time in FAL and second unique team. Surprising since 4 out of 5 of my starters are in the top 5 picks. But with my fifth being the number 15(Bokura) with only 38 active, I guess it is possible, (although unlikely). Bench picks at number 12 (Hitsugi) and number 23 (M3) may be surprises, so we'll see how it works out. This time I'll remember to make that final swap...

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders
Black Bullet

no one has this combo of 7 either.

I think JoJo will do better than Mushishi that's why I picked JoJo over Mushishi. I trust the enthusiasm of the fanbase (and the smaller amount of time that passed since the first season) compared to the more subtle love of the Mushishi fanbase. And it was one of those two, because they both air first week and can be swapped back in in the later score-heavy weeks. It was a gamble, but I figured more people would go for Mushishi and I don't want to be in a stalemate with 15 guys sharing my active team.
I probably regret this post by now.

There's really nothing really special about a remastered show since it's not a new arc, just a remastered version of the Buu Saga with some additional scenes taken from the manga I assume. It's not going to garner strong discussions nor is it going to be talked about more than this series: http://myanimelist.net/anime/6033/Dragon_Ball_Kai. I highly doubt it will gain high scores or favorites either for new or veteran fans. An odd choice imo to pick on the team.

Also, I wonder how a show with less than 2k on PTW is considered to be hugely popular.

As for the Mushishi/Jojo thing, I was originally going to choose something else in place of it. However, given the favorable scores and hype, I consider it to be stronger than Mushishi. Only part I'm worried about Jojo is the licensing as I recall Mushishi being picked up by Aniplex USA which has a strong chance that CR will also stream the show, assuming they announce it before Friday.

Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

Lol, my team is the top 7 most popular. Luckily, my exact same distribution has only two others. Compared to my same team, but different distribution being shared by 20 others. I figured it would be a pretty popular team choice :P. I just have to hope my distribution works out as I envisioned :P. Good luck everyone!

I'm indifferent whether having a unique team is good or bad I mean yes If the animes I chose are greatly watched then it's a definite plus but knowing no one felt the same as I, is a little concerning but none the less good luck everybody !

wow, somebody with the exact same team as me, last season I had somebody who had the same team but different benched anime, and he/she didn't do anything, not even a single swap, until the end.

let's see what happens this time.

as for mushishi vs. JoJo, the most recent series would likely be the higher scoring of the two, and from what I've gathered mushishi got its high score years after it aired and not right away.

I only picked JoJo because it's a sequel, and date a live II was banned :D

Whoops, my sister (IchigoParfait) and I ended up with the same team again. We probably influenced each others decisions towards the end, not going with Akuma and Brynhildr based on our indifference toward the quality of the shows (the trailers for the latter especially made me facepalm). I'm hoping for both to lose steam in the middle of the season even though they air early.

JoJo didn't do well in the FAL season it was in last year, which is why I chose Mushishi over it in the end. I think it'll get a better overall score as well. Either Hitsugi or Haikyuu need to finish top 6, if I want to finish top 10. Former could gain a lot of watchers if the anime is good and people drop Akuma/Bryhildr by Week 3-4, latter I'm hoping it replicates the success of Kuroko no Basket 2.

I don't get why everyone chose BB in their main teams?

It won't be airing til the second week...or is there sth I don't know? Like a pre-air?

There's no pre-air for this but I think it has something to do with the director (same guy that directed Monster). Not to mention, the LN and manga are actually not bad. For me it's more of a gutsy feeling that it will do better than No Game No Life in the first week.

Still, I'm not liking the studio of BB much..

No I don't mean that. It'll air on April 8th so it won't be counted for the points in the first week. I know it's gonna be good. I have it ready to exchange in the 2nd week ^^

Can't speak for anyone else but the reason I placed BB in my main team is I have chosen two anime which do not start i the first week: Black Bullet in the second week and Mekakucity Actors in the third.
If I place BB in my bench and swap it out in the second week I have to wait three weeks before I can then place Mekakucity Actors into my active team which at the moment I would rather not do, so for me it's mainly a strategic decision.
Having said that, this is my first time playing FAL so I could well be making a mistake.

Most of my team starts airing throughout Week 2, with BB and No Game No Life more likely to be successful than Hitsugi at the start of the season since they air a little earlier and have more hype.

Got a unique team, except that I share my active team with another user. Also, all of the teams I chose are in the top 9 most picked teams.

FAL is all about luck, and a little bit of research.. is what I think, so I hope I am lucky. Good luck to everyone!

I'm hoping my strategy of picking what I think will be the highest-rated shows in the end is going to work out for me again this time.

Last time I played was my first time, and I managed to use that strategy to get to the #10 spot in the end.
*crosses fingers* Let's hope this pays off.

Well, if you ran the top 5 most-chosen anime, you would have to place a week 2 anime on your main team no matter what. Whether that anime is Black Bullet, No Game No Life or Mekakucity Actors (very bad idea, due to airing late even by week 2 standards, and then immediately being subjected to the ratings acid test the following week) is up to the individual user.

While I didn't run Mekakucity Actors, for better or for worse, I ran Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka instead, which still left in a position where I had to run a week 2 series on my main team. The same would hold true for any team running Hitsugi no Chaika or Isshuukan Friends alongside the other week 2 series I mentioned as well, and before knowing how the season will turn out, I think every series I have mentioned there has top-5 potential.

Yep. The only way to have a full week 1 team without going for shows that are likely to perform underwhelming is to pick both JoJo AND Mushishi, and that isn't going to be a good choice either.
I probably regret this post by now.

There are 96 of you, actually. Last spring there were only 41 without Shingeki no Kyojin in their team, of which mine was one.

I just doubt any of those two will be in the top 10-15 shows in terms of viewers after week 3 because they are sequels and only being able to swap out one of them at that point will leave you with a disadvantage in the mid-season. Depending on how big the gap and how high the score it might pay off in the late season though, but with the changes in how score points are calculated this season I personally think it won't. But in the end it's all just guesswork, don't get discouraged.
I probably regret this post by now.

Wow, I really did get lucky with not many people picking Ryuugajou. Most of the other times I've tried to shoot for bonus point anime I've failed miserably.

It airs late week 2. So will give 0 points from week 1, and low, albeit probably doubled, points in week 2. If it does well there's also enough people with it benched to easily drop it out of the double-point zone at a fairly early stage. So I wouldn't get too excited about that.
