Ray's OPs for NnA have been awesome. I guess 5k or so is pretty good? I could just be transferring my feelings from the anime itself to the song (goodness gracious, the anime has feels) but ebb and flow seems to have such emotional power to it. Actually, the music in general for NnA has been awesome. By the way, wasn't AXIS by Stereo Dive Foundation released? Did it not sell even 1000? Shucks. I rather like that song. Oh well. |

I must admit their new song is good but the artist/group(?) is not relevant at the jpop scene at all. It is thanks to Lantis for the great marketing for them to be getting enough exposure to be known to anime fans. I think they're too good to be making anime tie-ins at the moment. I would love for them to have deals with major dramas or commercials that can be listened not just by anime fans but by other people too. I'll be also ok if he just sticks to composing songs for artists. |

All that needs to be animated will be animated is what I've heard thus far. Guess I'll know for sure after I get the novel next month, see that the atogaki says "That's all folks, please read my next series ____" and see that they animate it to the end. If the atogaki says, "See you in novel 9!" then we'll have a problem.... hpulley said: Stark700 said: No hope... it won't, will go down a bit more is most likely. From what I read, six volumes of Golden Time have already been covered in the anime, so we're definitely on track to completion. |

^^^ As long as it doesn't end with the end of novel 7... Though I'm a bit worried now as unlike Sakurasou 10.5 which DOES say it is the final volume on Dengeki Bunko's official site, Golden Time 8 does NOT say so. Hmm... so we may be left hanging by the anime once again, as usual. It does say "climax" which is usually manga/novel speak for the end but... it is interesting that it doesn't say final volume. Perhaps a final side story volume? |

Perhaps reminiscent of how I felt after I watched Samurai X Tsuiokuhen...Then you add the art and music and it's just...such a powerful effect. And when I found out that some Japanese viewers thought Nagi Yanagi's 2nd ED was better than Aqua Terrarium I was like oh come on, how could it possibly better than Aqua Terrarium? Thwt song is amazing! Then I heard the 2nd ED and...oh my gosh...what the....are you kidding me...it's...it's...AMAZING too!! Nagi no Asukara is a good example to me personally at least of an anime I love but which I'm not buying. The Nagi Yanagi ED CDs, yes... I have bought. But the Blurays, as gorgeous as the animation is, just don't seem to be a series I'd watch again and again, though it has a lot of great moments to relive it just hasn't struck me as something to watch again after I know what's going to happen. I'm glad its sales have gone up to half-decent from a complete disaster before but I'm not shocked that the sales are less than stellar. Perhaps I should have bought the first volume just to see how beautiful it is on Bluray but I never buy just the first volume of a series. Strangely, I do sometimes buy just one volume for the OST CD or other special bonus, often the last volume if it has a bonus episode, but I never just buy the first volume. Haven't so far anyway. |

Yeah, at this point it seems highly unlikely that the sales of Golden Time will improve drastically. Nagi no Asukara's boost was already considered, as jmal described it, a zombie rising from the dead (perhaps the most beautiful zombie ever lol) and that was a while ago (they are both from Fall). It's disappointing yes. Not sure if it's because the characters are a bit older than high school or what, but I would hope not. I don't know if the sales of source material are compensating or not, but I hope it turns out profitable in some way. hpulley said: Nagi no Asukara is a good example to me personally at least of an anime I love but which I'm not buying. Hey man , it's your money and so your opinion that matters. Personally I think I have a soft spot for well executed emotional drama especially if I like the characters. Hikari might be the first character I've ever seen for which my opinion has changed so drastically from negative to positive. By the way, isn't there a manga going simultaneously for NagiAsu? Anyone know how that's doing? As for Nagi Yanagi...my goodness can she sing. That's TALENT. Awesome, beautiful, and amazing talent. I hope to hear more of her in the future. |

Because it doesn't seem like older than college age (i.e. working age) is necessarily a problem. |

I love well executed emotional drama too but speaking of emotional I'm the first to admit my buying decisions are emotional. Once I start deciding rationally if I should buy a show or not I know I won't buy it. I get a "buy tingle" for shows I buy, they can lose it or sometimes I get that feeling late in the season but once I have that I generally lock in the buy and that's it. My initial reaction to Nagi was "I have to buy this!!!" but some of the first cour episodes turned out to be less than 100% rewatchable unfortunately. Hahalollawl said: Don't remember it ranking, assuming some tankobons have come out for it. It is based upon the anime so probably nothing new in it which is the usual for manga BASED on anime rather than the other way around.... Hahalollawl said: She is a great story too in that after some only minimally successful indie published works she started posting videos of herself singing along to Supercell tracks on Nico Nico Douga. Ryo of Supercell noticed them and said, "hey, you wanna come and sing on a track for me instead of using Vocaloids for once? There's this show Bakemonogatari and they want me to do the ending theme song..." Then they used her for a whole album before parting ways but that was the story of how she got noticed. Apparently she got it as she has the same almost superhuman vocal range as Hatsune Miku who he'd originally planned to use for Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari....As for Nagi Yanagi...my goodness can she sing. That's TALENT. Awesome, beautiful, and amazing talent. I hope to hear more of her in the future. |

Anime where the LN failed to sell 20k copies in the first week of release prior to the series airing (as Golden Time did last April) don't exactly have a stellar record regardless of what age their protagonists are. |

In terms of cause and effect, would it be the case that the characteristics that made the light novels less popular also impacted anime potential? I'd assume that both can fail to pick up for the same reason. |

I'd assume that both can fail to pick up for the same reason. That's a valid point; there's a pretty well-documented connection between anime and LN fanbases. I brought up the source material stuff more to say it could have had to do with the quality of the story itself, rather than the setting. College anime are rare enough that it's really easy to fall into the trap of pegging what might be variance due to quality in a small sample as a consistent trend caused by specific bias, and having less popular source material might indicate a less-appealing core story. I'm not sure how Golden Time did relative to other LN works set in college, though. Even within the small quantity of college anime made in the last decade, Tatami Galaxy/Honey and Clover/Nodame Cantabile/Moyashimon all did fairly well in disk sales. I know invoking the last three is stretching back a bit, but there aren't as many recent college anime to go by, period. Kamisama Dolls and Golden Time are the only other recent (2011 and later) non-sequels that come to mind, and two points adapted from mid-tier-popularity source material are hardly a trend. |

Being in college isn't that different from being in high school, the people in Golden Time probably have less maturity in them than your typical high school kids. Golden Time didn't sell well because it's a trainwreck, every episode has you cringing at how low Kouko and Ghost Banri can go, it's the kind of series like Watamote that the otakus in Japan absolutely hate. |
