Ok finally got the last disk yesterday and I just finished watching the last 3 disks........I thought I had been following the show pretty well but the last few episodes were a bit confusing........and depressing.

I need to go watch something happy now to offset this...

Oh also, on topic wise I found some new(ish) pics for Despera.

The main character seems kind of silly herself, with her yawning and facial expressions. Yay. Her hair is such a mess...

Yeah looks good. Haibane Renmei was awesome and Lain was quite surprising (after a second watch years later tho, cuz I didn't really like it the first time).

Haven't heard any news on dates. As excited as I am for this, and as much as I want it to come out as soon as possible so I can get my ABe/Konaka/Nakamura fix, I expect this to be in production for quite a while. You can't rush perfection, and any amount of wait time would be worth it if they put out something as god-tier as Texhnolyze (which was ABe/Konaka).

That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it before 2011... -_-

One guy who created Haibane Renmei, the second guy who wrote script for Mononoke, and the third guy who directed REC. The guys who made Lain together, which inspired Wachowskis to make The Matrix. And now they strike back. I'm in.

.... i can't wait T.T....
I really will be following the progress of this serie :D
"The past will often attack the present with the pain of your memories."
"There is no wish that doesn't come true."
"The brain is a microcosm creating its own stories. People then live out these stories."
"Time does not exist. Only the illusion of memories exist."
"Existence does not rely on matter. Everything is phantom."
"The waking dream called the world is constantly changing. What's so sad about that?"
"Pure perfection has no past. That is how you live perfectly."
"How can you say you are a phantom?"

Dang, this series looks cool. Lain and Haibane Renmei aren't exactly what I'd call fun animes, but they both do a very good job at telling a deeper story than one can find in most anime (and pretty much all television, for that matter). The early 20th century setting looks great for Despera.

The setting, character designs, and the comparisons to Lain make this look like another version of SEL, only steampunk instead of cyberpunk.

I'm not complaining, I'm just saying I hope the plot is halfway original and not a rehash of SEL.

I also hope this won't be some kind of SEL#2 rework thingy or something like that, but really something on it's own. With own sphere, characters and stroy development etc.
I hope ABe will surprise me yet again, like he did with Haibane Renmei.
Texhnolyze (or something like that) was a great disappointment to me personally. But I have my hopes up for this one. ^^

Despera canceled
"Hello Joshua,
Thank you for contacting me.
Yes, the anime of "Despera" have been stopped so far.
But I think you will be glad that I can tell you something.
As the graphic novel "Despera" is preparing to publish.
And we plan to publish paperless version too.
It will be included English version.
The next year, you maybe read that."
...and it was Tim Leary. And god help us, we smoked him... (c)

Lain's not a horror. Nothing to be scared of.

It was recently rereleased in Japan in a restored BluRay edition that looks great, and Funimation has picked up the license for it from Geneon so that same gorgeous BluRay remaster should be coming out here in the States next year.

Lain isn't a "horror series," but to be certain it's more horrifying and deeply disturbing than any anime which would designate itself as "horror." The fear in Lain lies within the perception of reality which we must question within us all.

At the end of the day, much more penetrative and corrosive to an open mind than any pulp thriller/slasher series.

I hope with all my heart that Despera still happens. If it doesn't perhaps we'll at least get an English translation of the serialization, as Konaka has hinted... (A fan translation of these installments was in the works, but unsurprisingly, Konaka's essays proved too complex and ambitious for the average 'scanulator' to tackle.)

All it says is something about publishing the book "Desuberu." I don't see anything that is referring to the anime.

Wow! At last something new about Despera! I thought they had completely given up on it. And I don't care what Wikipedia says, if it was postponed it's probably because of the earthquakes and the tsunamis which really affected the series production in many animation Studios.

It was postponed months before the earthquake happened.

I have a hard time trusting wikipedia, especially when it fails to cite important information. Something that important should have been released to the public in some form so they need a link to the news source, otherwise it's as good as a rumor.

Yep, and next to it "There is no plans to resume project. Konaka has although mentioned in this book, that despera has ended and he is doing preparations for the next project. Although, because of Abe apologizing in this book for not being able to complete anime adaptation, the possibility of it being completed is low"

By the way, the source is cited as 大正電脳ダダイズム絵巻 ですぺら i.e. Despera official book

PS. Translation is not mine, though
