| there is no doubt in my mind that Funimation is evil in every way, and wants to ruin our lives. I mean, the other day I'm all "Oh! I should put the Seto No Hanayome sub on DVD's before some stupid-ass company licenses it" AND I COULDN'T FIND IT. Funimation will fuck this one up like they do pretty much everything else. |

Well, to be fair, most MAL users don't "give a shit" that you only watch "English dubbed anime", but that doesn't stop you from mentioning it every chance you get. And yes, I'd say this is definitely a factor in the spiral of the R1 industry, though I will admit that the companies themselves are not totally free from blame. |

DVD rips do not. 1) I never thought that he was trying to say that DVD Rips were worse than fansubs lol. 2) You could always download the dual audio DVD Rips *wink*. They're freeeee :D. Fansubs, in the usual case, exist to provide the usual Non-Japanese watcher otherwise unaccesible material. That's why the more established fansub groups (read as: the ones who aren't hiding) stop distribution as soon as a distributor obtains the license for the region in question (ussually North America) or the japanese companies distribute it themselves. Sure, most watchers go for them because they are free, but the main point IS that they provide access to programs we just can't get in any other form. What you are advocating is plain and simply stealing. It doesn't even have an excuse to ride upon. You are downloading an illegal ripped video from a material you could obtain in a legal way in your own region. You shamelessly say to yourself "I can get it for free, so why should I pay?" and don't look back. Now, I won't call myself innocent of partially going for fansubs because they are free, but at the very least I try to concede and buy anime I enjoy. I guess that would make me a little of a hypocrite(sp?) though. |

Guess I should be more specific. It's illegal because the companies have money stolen from them when people like Baby_Naruto watch DVD rips of English dubs and never bother to buy the series. Therefore, that company loses profits. Anime companies in Japan do look at American sales because they get money from American sales. If a show performs poorly on one or both coasts, then that company will possibly lose profits off the title as well due to the persistence of selfish anime "fans" to not buy any product pertaining to that show and go for the illegal alternative instead. And Americans have no excuse since we have it the easiest out of the rest of the world in terms of pricing and availability. |

I don't think any of us are trying to say ALL ILLEGAL THINGS ARE BAD PERIOD LOLZ, but those of us who buy (or legally view otherwise) like to support the people who make anime possible. Seems reasonable to me. |
