I dare an animator to trump this with another 12 minute short! Would be really tough because I think this is a masterpiece. The fun thing for me is I watched this for the 'first time' just now only to realize that I actually saw this short a long long time ago when I was more interested in western animation (ie. fantastic planet) and other shorts rather than anime. Was just as impressed then as I am now.

I like how the old man tries to keep living despite his circumstances. The memories he had in the past is what he holds most important. It was simply beautiful. In a matter of minutes I was filled with many emotions.

A very good short film. The premise is somewhat the same from Up!
I like the acknowledgement of Global Warming here (rising sea levels).
There are no words needed to depict a beautiful romance...

I thought this movie was romance when I first see it, but that is okay.
These moments was good.

that evoked emotions from me that entire series couldnt do. It was a beautiful dozen minutes full of creative art and storytelling, it managed to do all of this without any dialogue to boot.

Short but sweet. It makes you reflect on how fast life passes by.

A short film on the loneliness and melancholia of an old man. The water for me just represent the fight of just living. The fight to keep your good memories and heritage.

It's a great, touching short.

There's the sweet trip down memory lane, but we'll all end up living isolated in a small room when we age, just minus the water.

Absolutely beautiful. A simple but touching tale of an old man, a travel step by step back to his past.

I was bored for the first 5 minutes, but after he started diving, that's where it got me interested, and after finishing it, I say, it's worth every second. I smiled when he successfully proposed, I feel sad when his flashback with his wife ended. I wonder though, where's his family?

Edit: That's a cool house. When he dives deeper, I was wondering if the water pressure will get to him..

Was this suppose to be sad? I cried a little as this short film unraveled the old man's life. Thoughts ran through my mind like: Why is this old man alone? What happened to his family? Why doesn't he move somewhere else where the water won't rise anymore? This is truly beautiful and touching! I don't find it odd to have reactions towards films with no dialogue. 10/10

HOW TO SAVE ANIME IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS

  1. To have Mars of Destruction, Skelter Heaven, and Pupa properly adapted in TV series form by Madhouse
  2. To have Inferno Cop properly adapted in TV series form by Bones, director: Urobuchi Gen
  3. An anime crossover of Mushishi x ARIA x Haibane Renmei.

Should even one of the above conditions cannot be done, anime is still at risk.

Water took away his life, it's not what a reviewer had posted being about global warming it's about time, water is a metaphor for time, as time passed/water increased his life changed and people were taken away from him.

This short movie really touched me with its symbolism. My take on it all: The whole building basically contained the memories of his whole life from beginning to present. If the building is like a timeline, then the water must be time itself where time can only move forward, so must the water continue rising in quantity. You can only carry so much memories with you to the future as you'll inevitably lose some along the way. You can't dwell on the past or you will drown. The only thing you can do is move forward; keep on adding rooms to that tower, for that represents your will to continue.

Pretty solid show
Interesting story, I always wondered what a sea-city building on top of itself would be like.
I liked the symbolism of how the other houses didn't go as high, because those people either died or left town, to the point where there are only a few left in the end.
