I love the settings, the characters, the actions and stuff...

But my one and only complaint was the CG. I prefer hand drawn ones. But its tolerable, maybe I need a few more episodes to get used to.

This. I have 1 major problem with this show, and 1 minor one.

The thing I hated the most is how they sexualize females. You can clearly see that they deliberately show the females' boobs and asses, in the ED sequence, and they just HAD TO MAKE THOSE SHIPS "female". We can never call male and female on equal ground, just based on that. How sad.

One minor problem is, how come the fleet consists of only children? They're the MC Gunzou dude's classmates, aren't they? Well that's not much of a problem, if they would just explain to us why did they betray humanity, I mean the rest of the crew.

The premise alone would probably work, but they just had to add in so many females for fanservices' sake, as some insurance. Sigh. I just hope that they don't make all the Mental Model females, for equality's sake

This. Exactly this.

There is a war raging withing me. Cool action scenes and battleships or annoying fanservice and characters (except main guy isn't that bad, gunzou).

There was barely any fanservice to begin with. Actually, it's safe to say the Anime reduced it even further. According to the opening, Haruna is actually wearing more or less decent clothing underneath her jacket instead of just lingerie.

And there's a solid reason behind mental models being female. It's rather simple, but I don't know if they'll actually mention it in the anime:

The question was already answered in the manga when Kyouhei ask the question to Iona. I forgot what chapter it is though.

Fanservice doesn't consist of only boobs and panties. K-On is a fanservice for male because of the moe factor, Free! is a fanservice show for female (and fujoshi) because of the naked males in swimming pool.

Doesn't change the fact that it's intended for fanservice.

I'm not denying that there's fanservice in this show, but the fact that historically, ships are referred to as female is not intended as fanservice for this anime, but as an aspect of historical accuracy. If you really think they should've made some of the mental models male JUST for the sake of "equality" or whatever then there's no point in continuing to discuss this. It's like complaining that there are only female nymphs in greek mythology. They're nymphs BECAUSE they're female, not the other way around.

The point is, they took a historical aspect of ships and added fanservice on top of it. Doesn't make the fact that the mental models are females = fanservice in the least. If you're going to call out the fanservice in a show, you should properly distinguish it at the very least.

Well okay, fair enough. They're still a part of the fanservices though.

suprisingly good episode! for the first quarter i was kinda like meeeh :/ but the second half managed to grab me and the plot kinda bedded in and set up nicely, i know its a completely different setting but for some reason i think of suisei no gargantia while watching this, which isn't a bad thing at all, loved that show!

also dare i say, a good ED, sat and watched it all so must have been catchy! looking forward to the next few eps and hope it picks up and moves on! great start!

Holy shit that OP was amazing! (NANO FTW!)

That being said, the OP (which happened at the end) was the best part in my opinion. Everything just felt rushed to me (second half was way better than the first half), but I'm still going to continue watching of course because you cant judge a series by its first episode! =p

Oh and the CG didn't bother me at all. It felt like I was watching a video game clip. xD

Well, the use of CG for the fighting animation is really good, the fight scenes looks awesome, but as for the characters, damn creepy. Oh well, I will probably get used to it.
I don't like Gunzou's hair, though cute character designs for the girls :3
It was kinda boring for me actually, but that's just me.

6-7 minutes in, someone asks "what is the purpose of your existence?". This is going to be interesting...

So many people complaining about CG here, but I was totally fine with what I saw.

Regarding gender imbalance and fanservice... I think they are trying to appeal to multiple groups; some people need fanservice, some people need action, some people need a good story etc.. They are just putting all of these into the same anime; nothing wrong with that.

The world building so far has been great, I'm excited to know more about the world and the Fog

This show uses CGI for the characters' movement!? I'll just have to see how fitting it will be, so far it's not bad.

Corrosive Torpedo = Fucking Blackhole kind of torpedo... Got it!

Typical kind of meeting between MC and the heroine...
Gunzou can ride Iona all day and night long, she's his ship after all! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

In this world, the 3 sizes are Length, Beam and Draft

Wait, on the OP, there was some German sentences on Iona (Submarine Mode) ! Does that mean that the Fog was all created by the Germans with their superior technology and engineering! Is Iona the future type Bismark or something?
