Pretty good episode this week!

Sketchy events have started at the auction involving the Phantom Troupe and the Mafia.
We get to see the Nen abilities of Franklin, Shizuku and Uvogin [somewhat].

lol @ feitan covering his ears.
I'm starting to really dislike the text that shows up onscreen now. It's getting ridiculous imo. (wasn't a fan of it in the first place, but whatever)
animation overall seemed a tad lacking for some reason too, though there were plenty of specific moments that I liked.
Deme-chan/Blinky sounds adorable. So does Kuroro... since he keeps reminding me of Tamaki from Ouran. OTL (why him of all the friggin...)
Uvo on the other hand... no comment. Though if I rewatch this ep like I obsessed over some other eps, I'll probably like his voice.
Oh, and Huncyclopedia is getting easier and harder for me to ignore compared to the first few times I watched it... it sorta makes me wish I shipped Gon/Killua so I could fangirl over it more.
anyway, kind of disappointed and I was left with a 'meh' feeling, so 3/5

This episode was great. I didn't think any scenes lacked any animation. That animation that was needed IMO was enough. The different angles and panels we got were off the charts. Uvo twisting that guys head than all of a sudden we get switched the Uvo's victim's point of view. That was a great touch. Feitan slicing that guys head off was badass. He's definitely my favorite troupe member.

100/10 for shutting up the censorship advocates. Sorry can't use that excuse now for the series. Find something else to complain about plz.

Loved this episode! Perfect pacing once again and Madhouse didn't shy away from some blood/snapped necks. Dat decapitation aswell. Can't wait till Kurapika and the Shadow Beasts get in on the action (hopefully next week). Every episode just leaves me wanting more! Can't wait for the next episode.
Also, lol @ the Hunterpedia this week.

The question is how much they will censor if they go into the Ant Arc.

Censorship was always a given. It was a question of the degree of censorship.
Would they censor it to the point that it would ruin the story? Would it be too tame?

With this episode. I see hope for the story.
Even if stuff is not shown exactly as the manga
I can have faith that Madhouse will do it's best to do it justice.

With stuff like Hisoka vs Kastro episode 31 it felt like they were afraid to show blood.
32 did a much better job but they should have had it as so from the beginning.

Well I think those days may be over and I'm glad to see that.

This was a fantastic episode. Not just because of the blood.
But because the action was great. Music was spot on.
Pacing was good. Some minor changes but nothing that
significantly effected the story or characters I think

Sea of blood... in HD

Madhouse finally deciding to show more gore. Not that I really care much about blood, but now I know that there will be no holding back on action scenes, which is always a plus.

Having watched '99 makes me anticipate ******** vs ****** even more, so these eps don't strike me as much as the first-time watchers, but oh well :P

I liked the Feitan filler
Animation was OK.
There were two snipers not one, why did they remove that?
And what's up with Uvo's stupid face while making a retarded sound lol
I liked how he squeezed the guy's head just like that

I see good things in the future of Hunter x Hunter. The suppressed sensorship somewhat came as a surprise especially when Uvo slapped that guy causing his head to bend and then squeezing his whole head. That was epic. Pacing is somewhat going faster than I thought but the older HxH probably had way more filler.

the pace felt too fast... shadows are already here??? wow... but i think their entrance (not arrival, but preparation) didn't feel as epic as it was on 99 version, maybe fillers helped carry it better. Dunno

I'll just go right out and say it: I thought this episode was AMAZING.

Granted, the animation took obvious shortcuts at times, the introduction of the Shadow Beasts was a bit too fast, and the Spiders weren't shown playing cards (lol), but overall, my expectations with this episode were completely blown away.

I was expecting the violence to be over-the-top based on some comments, but I'd say that the violence was tastefully done, even shocking in the sense that I wasn't expecting to see on-screen deaths or even pools of blood.

So far, I'm loving the voice actors for this remake. I feel that everyone has a distinctive voice that fits their respective characters, Spiders included.

Gah, I'm looking forward to so many things in this arc, it's ridiculous. The fact that ep 45 is being delayed just makes things worse but I guess it'll save the anime from catching up to the manga for another week. :/ (I hope Togashi starts up the manga soon...October hopefully?) I'd write more but for now I'll stop.

Actually, before I stop, I gotta comment on that Hunterpedia segment...gosh, it was so wrong on so many levels but at the same time, I'm used to it? XD

(If that happened during an actual episode on the other hand, I don't know if I'd burst out laughing or if I'd cover my eyes and blush because I enjoyed it.....probably both XD)

I agree, I'm liking them even more than the older version, especially Uvo's. I did some comparison between Uvo's new and old VA, there's a really notable difference between them, and of course, the current one is handling the role way better.

(I hope Togashi starts up the manga soon...October hopefully?)
He still has the movie to finish, so my guess would be Mars 2012.

Exactly, the director was clever on that one. He had good realization that two different mediums are not the same thing and put his hand on the right places so he can built tension and put the feeling of the manga on the anime or even improve it. I don't expect though that all the manga religious fanatics to get it since they think that an anime should be showing panel to panel with the manga and they see every difference as defect even if it isn't.

The Hunterpedia's are still one of the best highlights of it, killua kissed gon, nice.

Well I thought the Phantom Troupe would be pushovers with how Shizuka lost against Gon in arm wrestling last week, but this episode, kind makes me change my mind about it. Truly nen can make even those weak in physical power strong indeed.
. Ah and as I expected Feitan was awesome, hope he gets more action and can we have a Killua v Feitan?

I thought much of the episode was spectacular, really surprised with how fast things too off and got intense. I havent anticipated episodes of a shonen anime like this, since watching Bleach, its a great replacement indeed, even if its way more bloodier (pools of blood in hd and a bit gorey snapped necks, smashed bloody heads)

senseless, try reading the manga version of it then you'll clearly see this episode is nicely done, it's also way more organised than the older version: the mafia part before they were killed was better, the discussion part in the cars and the reporting were better and we at least know where they stoped the cars here unlike the older version
I just saw the corresponding episode before this one and it looked so blurry, I do think that some of the soundtracks of the older version were better together with the opening but this episode was still really well made

So just adding fillers makes it more epic?

1) MH isn't really doing panel for panel as we see with the last 5 week's fillers, they built up those characters just to kill them.
Also the only fillder that was added in the 1999 in THIS episode is the "bullshit" card game, Idk what it's called but we call it bullshit :P

I didn't feel like this when i saw the 1999. I had more feelings rising from the way Madhouse handled compared to the 1999.I liked the fact that MH is more faithful. The violence and blood added something more in this versions. The 1999 didn't have much of any of that. Just Dark pallets with a vague understanding of what went on. Madhouse didn't shy from what the massacre intended. So yeah I like more faithful story than pointless filler. HxH has 340 chapters, theres no hurry for a character to develop IMO.

Wow loved how they showed a "red sea" then Uvo and Chrollo start talking about the Bible : O. The auction massacre was amazing as with Uvo going beast mode on the Mafia's ass. Could notice the shortcuts with the still shots but I'm assuming they're saving up the budget to blow it up on either Kurapika vs ****** or Chrollo vs 2 opponents but I think it's going to be the former tbh.(Edited due to spoilers)

Other Thoughts

Shadow Beasts intro was a little on the grand side especially with the power walk outro we'll see if they deserved it next ep :P

Was glad to see what Madhouse could get away with regarding gore. Though it was toned down compared to the manga it still was pretty brutal. Had chills when Baise got pwned with the soundtrack

Yeah, Dark, blurry and going so fast you can barely understand what's going on really gave that epic feel

And Madhouse has been doing too much panel for panel shots, no tension

That episode was sick. I was taken by complete surprise of how violent this was. I expected the usual Shounen stuff, but some of this compare to F/Z and FMA: BH gore scenes, which is like R17+

It's some years since I've watched the original anime, but was it this awesome and violent?

2011 was better in:
-the actual auction attack (it was rushed and more censored in 1999)
-many parts of uvogin's rampage (his laughing, the neck-snapping of the mafia, killing the sniper dude and others)

1999 handled the rest better

anyway, voted 4/5
