Madhouse is my favorite anime studio even though they do have their fare share of bad anime in my opinion.
The good anime do out weigh the bad though.

Shaft is a consistent go getter for anime studios. They keep a similar style throughout all their productions but always manage to keep it fresh.

I used to be into Bones a bit too

I agree that A-1 sucks when it comes to action, but they are a pretty decent studio for SoL: Uchuu Kyoudai , Idolm@ster (one of the very few idol anime that I actually like), Silver spoon, etc.

And yes, JC Staff has a few good anime as well.. but that doesn't excuse the barrage of meh they made over the years.

What is really impressive though is that David Production has yet to make a single bad anime. They are very consistent.

They have consistently made great anime throughout the years.

I feel Kyoani deserves more than 8 votes, but then again, the last 2 years or so have been an absolute embarrassment....

Ufotable would be a good pick if they stopped being Type-Moon's bitch and started adapting other stuff/ making original anime.

Madhouse is probably my favourite studio, but I've been liking a lot Production I.G.'s output in the last few years.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

That's my point. I don't think they're a good pick now, but if they start making new anime outside the Fate/ series, they might be in the future.
By the way, they've also made the Kara no Kyoukai movie series, which is highly acclaimed as well although personally I didn't particularly care for it

But if we're talking in the present tense, as in which anime studio has been the best for the work they've ALREADY done....Ufo shouldn't even be considered too highly.

Agreed. Hyouka and pretty much everything before it was good. Then Chuunibyou came and way overstayed its welcome, then they shamelessly ripped off themselves with Tamako Market, then the only good thing they made in 2013 ended up being the gay swimming anime that looked like horseshit.

Sunrise are my favourite now. Well, as long as we forget Idolm@ster Xenoglossia and Valvrave ever existed and focus on the good stuff like Bebop, Gundam, Nichibros, Tiger & Bunny and Love Live.

Usually studios can give you an idea of what the animation quality will be like though even then sometimes they can surprise you. So it's not like a certain studio will always produce something good. Welcome to the NHK and Gankutsuou are two of my favourites and I'm convinced they're two of the best anime ever made, but they're made by a Gonzo which no longer exists. Well their spirit sort of exists in David Production. So perhaps David Production is my favourite studio. They're made Book of Bantorra and Jojo which are also two of my favourites, but their animation quality sucks, so I could hardly call them the best studio.

A lot of people seem to like A1. I'll admit they have some interesting stuff every now and then (Shinsekai Yori and the currently airing Aldnoah.Zero). But let's not forget that their animation sucks ass. SAO season 1 has some of the worst excuses for animation that a "high budget" anime has ever had. SHAFT is also pretty popular, except basically everything they release that isn't Madoka is pretty crap. So yeah, I can't really name a best studio. Every studio is just too hit or miss. Well mostly miss.
