This was a big heaping helping of wow in a can. I can't believe that the other five died so quickly, but Ishida's death scene was ridiculously good. I'm beginning to see parallels to Crime and Punishment (Kaiji=Raskolnikov, Ishida=Marmeldov, and Sahara's going to America). So, so awesome.

man, those deaths were really quick. Looks like Kaiji will make it but of course it'll probably end up like, "oh those tickets are expired".

Awesome climax to the Brave Men Road arc, a very emotionally driven episode. Ishida's death scene was superbly portrayed, and Tonegawa pontificating on the lives led by debtors up to this point really hits home... How freaky was the Grim Reaper??

In the end I really loved the sense of matesmanship between Kaiji and Sahara calling out to each other across the beam, confirming each others presence, keeping each other alive...

I kind of hoped that Ota's ghost scene could of been played out a bit longer but I guess there is only so much you can pack into one episode..

this episode was simply AMAZING.. it would've been more dramatic for me if they showed ishida's wife as being forced to work as a stripper.. but the other one was ok..

Wow... simply... awesome...
Most of the deaths were a bit.... boring... Barely any emotion or anything, they just fell down and that was the end of it. Then there's Ishida's death which hit me kinda hard... Really emotionnal, and it made him come through as a great character even though he's a coward. I couldn't help but thinking "Damn, this is a great guy", especially when you see him forcefully preventing himself from screaming...
And for a second i thought Sahara was gonna fall as well, when he started running on the bridge... Happy to see he survived.

And am i the only one really liking Tonegawa? He may be a bastard making people go through events like that, but his way of seeing things his realistic and well thought out. Loved that part where he explained that they weren't taking this the whole bridge-crossing seriously, and that it was the same for their lives as a whole. I really think he's a great character.

Can't wait for more.

Yeah, the dash at the end was amazing and Ishida's death scene was one of the best things I've seen in a while in anime. It was so well done.

This episode really makes me glad I made Kaiji the #1 anime of the year for 2007 on my MAL blog.

So does he have some luck or great pole beam crossing skills. But wow, only two people left. Ishida really had an emotional death, but what really happens to all the bodies that did fall? Are they just gonna hide em or tell the police that all those bodies fell on accident.

This anime suprises me more and more with every episode. I definitely didn't saw all of this coming. If such quality will be kept till the very end I have a feeling a 10 will be unevitable.

Personally I bet for getting the money, but one ticket would be barely enough for paying the debts or sth and the other... belongs to Ishida's wife. And conversation with her could be one of the greatest challenges for Kaiji. Maybe even greater than crossing this beam bridge.

But intense is really the perfect way to describe this episode. The lines of the Smoking Guy and of the last one to die really impressed.

Oh man, Ishida told Kaiji not to look back and what does Kaiji do? He looks back, haha. It's strange that every other person's fall broke Kaiji's determination, but Ishida's brave fall got him pumped up. Also, Sahara is one crazy dude, sprinting on that beam like he did.

WOW. That was incredible. Ishida's death has to be one of the most emotional I have seen in an anime. The last moment with Sahara running was really intense too. It is a real shame so many anime watchers don't know what they are missing out on by dismissing this anime because of its unusual art.

Tonegawa's speech did hit close to home... I wish there were more anime with this kind of gritty realism.

Duh. I don't watch previews in Kaiji because they are too spoilerish for my taste.
He grined, you say? Well, I do have some other ideas... for example: "Congratulations, Sahara, Kaiji - here is your reward: pile of cash of 20 milion yen, all in the banknots of smallest values possible. You do have some bags with you to pack them, don't you? Ah, and btw - because the elevators are not working and stairways are closed you'll have to come back using the same route you get here, it's not a big deal for you after all"

Damn bugs ._.

Anw FREAKING MINDBLASTING EPISODE. Im still shaking... The shinigami at the beginning and their acts were simply creepy. Again Tonegawa spoke the true... Ishida's Death scenae was simply amazing :S i kinda feel sorry for him but he left the world with dignity. His last actions made him a better person :). The reference of humans walking all alone the same beam and Sahara and Kaiji pushing themselves up to the ending was great. Although i thought Sahara would fall in the dash now i thought he wouldn't have strenght to come up. But then i saw the preview =S well the narrator had spoken to so it wasn't much of a spoiler.

I didn't think the deaths were too fast. Its was chain reaction like. I think the speed that they feel one after another added a feeling of how life is fragile and how we are even fragile when it comes to emotions and surviving.

If they say that the tickets have expired i will hate this series :S it will ruin Ishida completly =S. Although in the preview they were clapping.

Female Characters! Oh wait we didn't saw her face (i think)

Oh there is no net ;)

PS: We should create a Ishida Memory whatever or a Ishida Memorial. He was damn brave at the end :'(

You mean the girl one of the guys were chasing? She actually had quite a pretty face :P In the manga, she actually looked like Misato from Evangelion. The neckalace and attire was exactly her.

Since the Kaiji manga was back in 1996, some Eva references can be seen. You can see some guys wearing a 'EVA 01'(this is the very guy in Espoire who says the line that 'I don't have enough money now, but his parents are going to pay the rest'.He looks a LOT like Shinji.), 'NERF' or 'REI AYANAMI' t-shirt, and some Eva related magazines in the convenience store Kaiji works in.

I only rate after i finish the anime. Rules of the house :). But atm it goes for straight 10.

Score: 7.961 (scored by 398 users). HMmmmmm Premature rating ftl :S I think thats the reason

After some short research on the profiles and stuff i am like you and can't understand why Kaiji is only rated 7.96. There should be an option that would allow the users to see the final rating only :) . Anw there are tons of reasons like people dont liking RPS and rating low or simply they are not watching the second arc.

Oh and the 1st arc was weaker. This one is kickass

Looking at it again, Tonegawa's speech was probably the result of Akagi's ghost posessing him. It sounded exactly like his opponent profiles.

And yeah, Kaiji is underrated, although judging that the vast, vast majority of people rated it above 8, it should probably be higher. (169 above to 107 below, with 112 at)

I know, you get a slice of life comedy with no plot or substance whatsoever throw a couple of cute 2D girls in and it gets like a 8.4 (not naming any names here).

WTF? The world is out of balance.

I'm positive that if Kaiji continues to deliver this kind of intensity throughout the show, it will end up like Baccano; getting lots of 10's once the show ends. It was very underrated at first, but now it's in the Top 250 for Popularity and Top 20 for ranked anime.

I had this show rated at a 9, now I have it at a 10, and it's joined my top 3 favorites. This ep totally blew me away. The image of the 6.6 billion humans, each standing on his beam, was brilliant.

I'm thinking that they'll get their money. As for the scene with Ishida's wife, I'm imagining that Kaiji will just sort of show up, give her the money, and leave without saying much. What can he possibly say, after all?

What're people imagining for the rest of this show? If he isn't in debt any longer, is he going to continue gambling and amass a fortune? Or will he remain in debt and just keep on barely surviving these situations right on through the end?

Tonegawa will just drag Kaiji into another game or will make Kaiji pay an non existing debt or something like that. I will wait and get surprised.

Yes if Kaiji continues this way it will surely bump up in the Tops just as Baccano or Terra E did. Just do some publicity too :)

Ishida went out gracefully.

As someone mentioned here before, I think they'll tell Kaiji that it's a 1 ticket per candidate deal and he'll feel obligated to give the 10 000 yen to Ishida's wife. This will leave him broke and in debt as usual and paves the way to more crazy gamble games.
