About BadSeafood
I'm something of an aficionado for hand-drawn animation, and enjoy Anime that is actually animated, not just Talking Heads or Reused Footage. I have no particular genre that I subscribe to, but there are a lot of shows I really couldn't care less about. I generally write off about 90~99% of each new season, though I have a habit of picking up a couple gems after it's half over.

I'm not a critic, they don't pay me nearly enough for that. I dislike the classic 1-to-10 scale, so I tend to rate my material by enjoyment rather than some idea of custom quality, though if I did I'd use the Out of 4 Stars route.

Top Anime
1. Baccano! (TV)
2. Cowboy Bebop (TV)
3. Samurai Champloo (TV)
4. Giant Robo - The Day The Earth Stood Still (OVA)
5. Millennium Actress (film)
6. 5 Centimeters Per Second (film)
7. Kaiba (TV)
8. Read or Die (OVA)
9.
10.

I also read a fair share of Manga (serial fiction, hurrah!). I tend to prefer Shounen and Seinen, but I will stoop to flipping though Josei on occasion. I basically never read Shoujo, nor will you convince me to. Probably. Maybe. As you can probably guess, I have soft spot in my heart for sprawling epics. I also keep pace with a couple mainstream Shounen titles mostly for the conversation, but they can be kinda entertaining in small doses.

I read a number of American and European comics too, but I guess We Don't Talk About That Here.

Top Manga
1. 20th Century Boys by Naoki Urasawa
2. Berserk by Kentaro Miura
3. Blade of the Immortal by Hiroaki Samura
4. FullMetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa
5. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure by Hirohiko Araki
6. Bokurano by Mohiro Kitoh
7. Lone Wolf and Cub by Kazuo Koike and Goseki Kojima
8. Monster by Naoki Urasawa
9. Pluto by Naoki Urasawa
10. Temporarily open so someone better snatch this before its just more Urasawa

The Big Three

Winston Churchill (UK), Franklin Roosevelt (USA), Joseph Stalin (USSR)

It's definitely not licensed. If it was I would be much happier :)

Dennou Coil on hold? :O

Well at least you didn't drop it. :)

Yeah it really was an excellent opening to the franchise. I think JoJo does an amazing job of polishing as well as completely shattering those conventions.

And Cars.. I seriously had to reread Wham Cars vs JoJo final bout as soon as I finished part 2. I've always wondered how he came up with such an astonishing death. But then again, I wonder the same about most of the stuff he draws/writes heh.

So anyway, how about that Baccano!? really excited that it was finally picked up for stateside release, looking forward to the dub. Maybe if its successful someone will pick up the novels, it worked for a number of other anime!

SlipperSleaze | 11-05-08, 7:24 AM
Ahh

I loved all 3, specially their endings. Part 3's Dio vs Jotaro encounter I felt was more grand in anime form. Part 1 was a classic vampire tale with a beautiful closing, and part 2 was just.. from beginning to the very end, intense. Cars death was all sorts of awesome.

Llet me know what you think of Sword of Stranger when you finish watching it.

SlipperSleaze | 11-04-08, 1:29 AM
Hey, like animation I see. Check out "Sword of Stranger", it's a real treat. It went relatively unnoticed last year, but then again what moeless anime doesn't.

The animation talent on it consists of the very best in the industry. Plot and characters are straightforward, it's a quick and easy watch with riveting hand drawn animation sequences. I think you'll enjoy it.

JoJo is amazing I should really get started on part 4 and up. What was your favorite part out of the first 3?

ShaolinRibiero | 11-02-08, 9:36 PM
The Godhand by itself is acceptable if not particularly interesting, but it needs some type of counterbalance besides just the Skull Knight. As it is, they're the only real higher beings in the Berserk universe, yet they're completely evil. Shouldn't they have some opposition?

Even ignoring Griffith and all his Apostles, the struggle just seems completely lopsided against Guts and his crew. Maybe that's the point, but in that case, it's hard to envision any type of ending which doesn't involve them all dying.

And about Jojo, that's what I meant; the author wisely takes about 20 volumes per individual story, then creates a new one. Maybe some are better than others, but their quality isn't influenced by its predecessor.

ShaolinRibiero | 11-02-08, 8:12 PM
That's probably the best explanation for Serpico I've read, but I still don't completely buy it. He somehow found the spare time to become a great warrior and master strategist while growing up as a slave of Farnese?

And what about Farnese? Why does she so abruptly change from violent and insane to compassionate and good in the manga?

It's still a good story, but the battles and injuries also start to become repetitive, and it's no longer the epic masterpiece of the first 21 volumes, at least for me.

Heh, not even the Jojo stories can remain exciting for much longer than 20 volumes or so!

ShaolinRibiero | 11-02-08, 7:19 PM
Schierke is fine, but Serpico never made sense to me. He's essentially the pathetic, jealous slave of the childish, idiotic, violent maniac Farnese, for no other other reason than they're siblings.

He's even willing to burn his own mother at the stake for her.

And yet, he's shown as a independent, strong-willed, intelligent, and powerful. Huh?

Either make him a slavish fool, or make him a hero, but give him a less degrading and implausible backstory.

ShaolinRibiero | 11-02-08, 6:50 PM
Heh, I see Serpico and Schierke are among your favorite characters, so you probably enjoyed Bersek post Conviction Arc, whereas for me, the wheels really came off after Volume 21.

ShaolinRibiero | 11-01-08, 1:29 PM
Since your tastes seem similar enough to mine, how is Blade of the Immortal after volume 4? Does it maintain or even surpass its original quality, or like Berserk, does the epic series go downhill at some point?

Veggen | 07-02-08, 2:48 PM
Oh, I see you just started on Berserk. Just keep on reading, you just started on the best arc ever made.

kasumisama | 05-18-08, 11:37 PM
I enjoyed your 1 shot recommendations. Good job.
