Synopsis

July 2008. Mankind was faced with the thread of extinction. An ultra-magnetic weapon, far more devastating than any nuclear weapon known, had destroyed half the world in a single instant. The earth`s crust was rocked by massive movements, the earth was thrown of its axis, and the five continents were torn completely apart and sank deep below the sea...
The attempt by a number of people to free [sic] to outer space failed. Their spaceships were forced back to the earth and vanished with their hopes shattered. But one of the spaceships narrowly escaped destruction and crashlanded on a small island which had miraculously survived the devastation. The crew members of the spaceship settled there, as if they were seeds sown on the island.

After years, a boy was born. He was a new life in the desert, a ray of light in the darkness of the annihilated earth...

And there this story begins. (Source: AniDB)

I absolutely loved Mirai Shounen Conan (forgive me for using the japanese name),
the story is based on this planet, after the mankind has destroyed and polluted the earth in a world war.
The story starts on a small island, where Conan lives with his grandfather, thinking they are the lone survivors of the war. But they come to see that there are others alive when a girl washes on the shore of their island..

The Story is an instant classic, with the theme of good vs evil. I think the story will appeal for every age, it has these certain catches, and twists in it also. read more

This is a series so imiginative in its artistry and so mature in its execution, non-anime and non-cartoon fans couldn't help but be drawn in. "Future Boy Conan" provides one of the best examples of animated storytelling available to watch. To boot, its one of the most entertaining stories I've had the pleasure of watching.

FBC is so entertaining because of its high technical and artistic merits. Technically, the animation and artistry is hard to match even today. The imaginitive settings are gorgeously rendered, and the shear number of places the story goes, like a giant solar tower or a flying fortress or rocket-come-house, will read more

Another classic by miyazaki, the whole scheme is kinda like Laputa. And there is also this good vs evil thing in this one too. And lots of "teachings" like all miyazakis films have. Alltogether solid, pleasant and also thinking inducing anime. A must see for all Miyazaki fans!
"Future Boy Conan" and "Fantastic Children" are both sprawling adventure stories propelled by brave kids.

Both series share many similar characters. Conan (of FBC) and Thoma (of FC) are similar in their easy-going and naturally athletic. Each show has its own dark-haired damsel in distress in Lana (FBC) and Helga (FC).

" Future Boy Conan" and "Fantastic Children's" also both contain numerous fantastic and epic settings. Many of the locales depicted are heavily entrenched within nature and provide a gorgeous viewing experience.

Opening Theme

"Ima Chikyū ga Mezameru (今地球がめざめる)" by Naozuki Kamata and Yūko Yamaj

Ending Theme

"Shiawase no Yokan (幸せの予感)" by Naozuki Kamata and Yūko Yamaji
