There are unexplained phenomenons, transfer students, shrine maidens and things that may not be all what they claim to be. In both anime story is about group of friends, who live in mysterious small town, which have a dark past.
A seemingly normal town with deep-rooted dark secrets that are related somehow to a dam, girls in shrine maiden outfits, students with crazy mental-illnesses, and sometimes disturbing imagery.
All of these are things these shows have in common.
Both anime are playing in little village . Both anime have psychodelic story
Ghost Hound and Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni is similar in terms of the psychological things it might give the viewer while watching it. Although Ghost Hound has a more complicated and professional way of showing and stating things, it is still similar with HNNKN in terms of boggling your mind.
“Everything seems so peaceful on the surface, while beneath something eerie is hiding.” [Masayuki]
Group made of kids (each of them with several issues and a trauma in their past) lives in a quiet, small, remote Japanese village surrounded by nature which actually hides some scary secrets.
Both are psychological, creepy, dark, mysterious, supernatural, and addicting to the max, and both screw with your brain (and you love it).
Also, in both we have: a dam, a school, at least 1 transfer student, a young, cute, purple-eyed miko, and a scary, ugly, hateful grandmother.
Main differences: Ghost Hound doesn’t have neither gore and comedy, and is way slower than Higurashi, and the latter has only 1 male protagonist & many girls, while in Ghost Hound it’s the opposite.
both is some kinda creepy and scary...

The music, the animation style and the same kind of atmosphere. If your into Ghost Hound then you could be a fan of Lain as well! Lain is a lot older than Ghost hound but don't excuse that from being a great anime.
Lain and Ghost Hound are both from the same director and scriptwriter. Besides, both have the same dark atmosphere and play with the psychological during the story. If you like Lain, you'd probably like Ghost Hound as well.
Both excel at ambient sound/music, blending the surreal and real and being quite the head trip.
These series both have the same director, but there are also some other similar aspects. They both deal with psychological problems and have very interesting plots that make you think while watching each episode. SEL deals more with technology than GH does, though.
The similarities are countless.
Both series are slow-paced, psychological, complex, dark, surreal, weird, and mysterious.
Both deal with the supernatural, the human mind, things such as technology (in Lain) and science/medicine (in GH), and various personality disorders and issues.
Also, in both anime, there’s the concept of alternate reality, extra-corporeal experiences, and what's real and what's not: even if not anyone can see it, there’s another world apart from the one we live in (in Lain, the real world & the Wired, in GH, the Apparent World & the Unseen World).
In both Lain & GH there’s some kind of game (used respectively by Lain & Masayuki) which allows to enter another world.
More similarities: in both series the protagonists are kids who have family problems; Miyako & Lain are both extremely quiet, cute, and basically emotionless; in both anime there are several scenes where the characters seem to stare directly at you with their big, deep eyes; both anime, despite their lack of blood and gore, have disturbing imagery and can be very creepy at times; the type of sounds and music and the way it’s used is almost the same; both anime have amazing OP themes.
These anime also have the same director (Ryutaro Nakamura), scriptwriter (Chiaki Konaka), a lovely character design, and have overall the same atmosphere and mood.
Both are one hell of a mind trip.

Same kind of horror-type theme, references to the "afterlife" etc. Also same character designer.
Both:
- Dealing with life after death
- Quite complicated with a ambiguous story
- The mystery is omnipresent
- The music has a very important place (OST are just beautiful)
- The graphics are quite the same even if it's better and Darker for Jigoku S.
Differences:
- Both deal with every day life but in different ways: GH main characters are ordinary people (in a way) while JS’s are fantastic creatures
- At the beginning JS’s episodes aren’t linked whereas GH have a story from the start.
- The life after death is different and JS is more violent
- GH deals with psychic problems and medicine. JH does it too, in a round about way because it illustrates many of human problems but we are not said directory that there’s a problem. In fact there is a psychologist in GH.
Because they were both scary..

Ghosts are a controversial anomalous phenomenon...They can be everywhere - hided or just we can't see them. They appear whenever they want.
Even people can do out-of-body experience, but then, scary things might come out or kill you inside your nightmare.
When you remember the scary memories of your childhood you go crazy or search for the right answer for all these things that happened before your eyes.
It may not be like it, but it's very much like it in how it involves spirits and how it has a deep mystery. I'm not really sure that I should be reccomending this anime, but it's also very intellectual for one part. ^^ It's more of detective show, like Detecitve Conan. Non of the less, I still reccomend it and hope that you find it very similiar to Ghost Hound. =3
both leave a little something wanting at the end, have very good art, good story lines, neither are scary in any way, decent charecter growth, both have a slight romanance going on the side..all in all both animes worth the watch XD

Both shows deal with "life after death," sort of themes and the afterlife colliding with the normal world to form some disturbing results.
They both have a psychological aspect to them. They both deal with the afterworld/another world and getting more in touch with it. This leads to the similar supernatural theme, giving them a similar atmosphere too.

Great works from I.G Productions. Both have great animation and developed characters. Those are must-watch series if you like mystery, supernatural and sci-fi stories.
Although Ghost Hound is solely Supernatural based, and Real Drive is SciFi, both involve having a split self in another form, with Ghost Hound involving spirits, and Real Drive having ones consciousness inside a system known as the Metal. While I admit to not liking either, I disliked both for the same reason, so I assume the reverse would hold true too.

Zettai Shounen and Ghost Hound both have young teenagers dealing with supernatural occurrences (especially in relationship to the past) in isolated, small towns with beautiful scenery. Zettai Shounen does not have the same vibe of horror that Ghost Hound does, but it shares its air of mystery and the creepiness of the unknown.
Mystery, small town, kids, slow paced story, etc...

Even if completely different in plot and atmosphere, both have a group of students interested in supernatural and not-ordinary things, and both anime are, in a way or another, about mystery and paranormal activities.
Also, both series have a kuudere (Yuki/Miyako).
But, above all, Itsuki & Masayuki are basically identical. :-P

|
Both anime deal with human awareness, ideas of existence, questions of reality and the nature of the universe.
|
|
|
Both of these animes seem to have a lot of similarities. They basically both deal and have that mystery and investigation aspect.
|
|
|
Both involve dark haired girls with strong spiritual senses, dams, rural settings, and supernatural creatures.
|
|
|
The atmosphere of each series has a very similar feel to it. They both have slow pacing and a similar way of presenting the story. While Texhnolyze is much darker, Ghost Hound has a few light hearted moments but still retains a dark atmosphere.
The story has some vague similaritities as they both take place in a town with conflicting groups but the main similarity is in the presentation of each of them; they're both very dark and slow-paced.

|
Both involve young people dealing with the supernatural world. Although the styles are very different, both shows include multiple themes regarding the supernatural.
Oh, and both include a young girl who is easily possessed by supernatural beings.
|
|
|
Both very dark series that are psychological as well.
|
|
|
Both have a lot of psychological themes and are totally strange (in a good way).
