The Ghost Stories dub is notorious for being extremely controversial and full of improvised lines which are- *not* appropriate for a general family setting, lol. There are clips online of the highlights, although I would recommend the full thing if you don’t mind a bit of offensive humour on everyone’s part (plus, that was done in the early 2000s when those jokes were less frowned upon)

Btw curious... how the hell does Ghost Stories dub make it go from a level 2 to level 1?? (feel free to spoil)

Do tell me when you read it. It's quite packed with text too.

And, yeah... For that reason, I don't really see the story as a tale of some inevitable separation despite efforts to keep things going, I think it's quite the opposite - they didn't put enough effort into it. I love it for that reason, because it makes us sympathize with Takaki more by also making us dwell on what could've been had he not given up. It's so amazingly written and I wish Shinkai does at least one more film that focuses solely on human problems.

Yeah. I honestly think it's his best story because there are no supernatural elements muddying it up, and it's generally smaller in scale. One of the best stories I've ever read. I love how grounded it is, though there are definitely parts I wouldn't call all that realistic. I seem to have gotten a slightly different idea of it than everyone else did, or the manga is different, but I swear Takaki had SO MANY chances to reach out to her again and didn't but still kept dwelling on it all.

I do recommend the manga though even if you've seen the movie already, the art is particularly beautiful and I've heard it adds extra details. I think the final chapter is entirely new material not in the movie.

Yo, I know you're somewhat versed in Shinkai since we've talked about his stuff before. How did you like 5 Centimeters per Second? I read the manga and it was beautiful. Then I checked out the ending of the movie and that song just broke my heart.

Hello. I just wanted to ask one clarifying question, are you sure that dark, edgy shows can still be watched with parents just because there is no erotic content?

Well, I haven't seen KnnW so I don't know the lore. I admit TnK was my first Shinkai film, so I may be a little biased towards it. I guess the lore issue is just an oversight, really. My problems with it was that it wasn't all that special besides being pretty, but the story was easy to follow and the movie wasn't embarrassing to watch.

Now, as far as Bubble goes... it just felt lazy. It's like nobody had a clear idea of the plot or what feeling the movie was meant to convey. That and the artistic decisions were strange at best and incredibly tone-deaf at worst. Remember the humming in nearly every scene with Uta? The same exact humming every single time? Embarrassing.

For someone who didn't like Tenki no Ko, I'm surprised you gave Bubble a better rating. Personally, didn't think TnK was anything but mediocre, but it seemed somewhat competent compared to Bubble, which to me looked like a failed attempt to mimic an already mediocre movie.
