| Amazing, we got more dance from the talented Maomao in the season finale. It's almost like a celebration treat for the fans and audience that followed the series and her journey from start to finish. Once again, Maoamo overcame her personal struggles. Her dance didn't go completely perfect but still managed to capture her talents imo. Such a wonderful show, very recommendable. | The dried blue rise and the little cut finger, Lakan may still have his regrets, but with Mei Mei having taken him in for recovery, he gets introduced to the Verdigris House's courtesans, and that includes Mei Mei as well. But, she has an offer for him: choose her, or the woman that he has been long awaiting to see for the longest time: his own wife Fengxian, kept in a private and sick room while singing her lullaby, which he instantly recognizes, and buys out immediately for regardless her price. Needless to say, Lakan's salvation is guaranteed. Maomao with Basen after seeing Loulan and her father, she's fine and all. The same reason why Maomao managed to become part of the Imperial Palace through Lakan as well, it's a guise of observant traits and trickery. Despite the biological linkage between father and daughter, with Lakan able to only distinguish both his daughter and her adopted father Luomen, Maomao's two halves worked to ber benefit. Still though, Lakan as a person, he's not to be underestimated. Maomao receiving a shawl from Meimei, which was supposed to be used for a courtesan's purchase sendoff, is used for another's instead: Lakan and Fengxian. And now, with her dress, like Concubine Fuyou earlier in the series, she does her dance on the top of the walls, which is an exquisite dance of immaculate animation. But Jinshi appearing straight at her after he'd heard rumours about her climbing up the outer walls, Maomao definitely got a shock, though she doesn't know that her biological parents have reunited after 3 years. But none of that matters now, as with a new fingertip and being an adopted daughter, she is fine, but not without her leg's wound reopening and Jinshi having to escort her like the last when facing Lakan. Maomao's confession to Jinshi, while it is indicative of love/romance, she's more into poison with the ox bezoar, like a cunning cat lols. Eventually, she still gets the ox bezoar from him, and things within the rear palace are back in order. After Frieren, Kusuriya is also the matched-unmatched masterpiece. | It's sad how things turned out, even if Maomao is okay with her dad. Defeated by Maomao, Lakan ends up marrying a courtesan from the Verdigris House. Amidst the glamorous women lined up, when Lakan reaches out for Meimei's hand, they hear singing from the door she opens... Meanwhile, summoned to the Jinshi's house, Maomao speaks of Lakan's troubles, her own attachment to him, and her complex feelings towards her father. Then, a few nights later, there is Maomao's beautiful dance on the castle walls. Poor Meimei, I hope the story gives closure to the three verdigris girls someday. Maomao feels jealous of her own father for getting praise from the man who raised her. Meanwhile, Lakan loves his uncle and admires him, creating a strange love triangle. Anyway, Meimei's goodbye dance was amazing... just wow. They used some CGI, but it was still good enough for me. From the song to the camera movements, it was great. It reminded me that this is the last we'll see of Maomao and Jinshi for a while. It's a bit sad how distant Maomao feels from it all, but I can't blame her for being happy with her father and grateful for her life. What started as a simple kidnapping turned into something unforgettable for Maomao... It's been quite a journey these past 24 weeks. And if there's a second season... count me in. | It’s been an absolute treat to have Saturday evenings of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto! I was pretty excited about this in the first place despite not reading the manga because of what I’ve heard from a friend irl but for it to be this good, that was certainly a massively welcome. It was hilarious to see Lakan pissed off at Jinshi for touching Maomao three times over the course of the little father-daughter challenge, lol. Just an episode earlier, we were getting serious antagonistic vibes but then the complete 360 degree switch came around, and all of that dissipated into thin air. Add to that the scenes with Maomao’s mother, and the impression is totally different now. I didn’t realise people knew about Lakan’s lack of ability to remember faces, lol. Maomao repaying her father back with the purple flower hint but still annoyed that he didn’t use his abilities to prevent the revival medicine attendant mystery from earlier, suggests there’s still a lot to go and quite frankly, that’s a lot more realistic than just instantly patching things up for the sake of it. Preparation for Meimei-san’s wedding, I was wondering how they were going to fit in the dance from the first Op into the show, and here we got it! Studio went all out with the camera angles there. Yikes, it could’ve led to something big though. Of course Jinshi was going to hurriedly get over the walls if Maomao was somehow to be involved in something out of the blue like this, xD. Jinshi-sama with another Princess carry, Maomao is too casual about the wound, lol. And what a tease in the end there, she really knows how to play him like a fiddle. Oh man, how I wish things work out for them one day! Season 2, please! Strong 9/10. Oh wait, it’s announced. Holy crap, I’m so happy! Next, Sousou no Frieren and Boku no Kokoro Yabai Yatsu too, please! |

| The fact we got this and Frieren airing at the same time for 6 months.. I really don’t think people appreciated how generational that run is. What a time to be alive. Sad to see this end, but there’s the LN and S2 coming! GTA 6 and this in the same year will be wild lol. Lakan plotting revenge on buddy for putting his hand on Maomao shoulder got me dying. How the author took him from being this seemingly horrible conniving person to a doting overprotective father gotta be studied. A masterclass in gradual character reveal. S/O to Meimei for being the real fucking MVP of this series omg. The look of shock Lakan had on his face when she opened the door to be able to go see Fengxian was great. I thought my screen had frozen because bro was shook. He probably hasn’t ran that fast in decades lol, but such a beautiful scene with him seeing her again after all these years and even with the health condition she’s just as beautiful as he remembered both inside and out. After all the BS they been thru they deserved this. They were always happiest when they played Go so fitting that’s how their reunion goes. Maomao’s outfit from the 2nd OP is finally here! That dance scene MOVED me. Beautifully choreographed and animated. Maomao is so gorgeous, man. No wonder Jinshi gets weak in the knees when he sees her get dolled up lol. Speaking of Jinshi, the fancams and AMVs are going to eat the scenes up that we got today. Him almost knocking her off the bridge, then carrying Maomao back home, so cute! He really thought Maomao was going to confess to him there, whole time she just wants that Ox Bezoar for her experiments lmaooo. 😂 she definitely knows how to get what she wants out of him now. Great finale, happy end for everyone. But the mysteries of the rear palace are far from solved. Still a lot of things left to be answered and I can’t wait for s2. They can take all the time they need cooking up. We can read in the meantime. I’m going to miss Maomao Saturdays so much. |

| I was wondering why Lakan didn't get Fengxiang after coming back but wait he didn't know she was still alive? Wtf old hag? I was crying when he finally met her again and she looked normal playing go with him again, that entire thing broke me and made me so emotional. Wish they could have been together, they didn't deserve this damn. Btw thanks to Meimei for finally letting him know. I was literally crying like her watching them and thinking why couldn't it be sooner. The later half of the episode with Jinshi and Maomao put a smile back on my face though. Beautiful dance from Maomao. Sweet interactions again too. Princess carry to end the season, man I sure hope they end up together soon. Jinshi headbutting Maomao though, she had it coming. Great anime and adaptation, really liked it. One of the best in recent years. Watching Kusuriya for the past six months has been a pleasure but it's time for goodbye. Really looking forward to s2. |

| So happy for Lakan and Fengxian :') 9:02 LMAO the aim XD Beautiful dance scene. Gotta be one of the best dances I've seen in anime. NOW WAIT A MINUTE. I just found out that if you look at Maomao's hands with the nail polish from the moment where Lakan first saw her, you can see that the pinky finger on her left hand is a little crooked. I mean, we knew that her mom cut off one of her fingers, but this is still a cool detail. 10/10 Was a 9 for most of the season, but changed to 10 near the end when everything connected. Loved it. The story was really fascinating, and animation and art were amazing too. The adaptation was superb thankfully. I know that the first cour adapted one LN volume, not sure about the second one. SEASON 2 ANNOUNCED YEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! |

| What an amazing anime this was!!!! It's been so long since I got hooked this much in an anime.. Maomao dance was so magnific I had goosebumps in my entire body damn I'm happy it all ended well with Lakan, I hope Fengxian can recover somehow. It's just incredible that this adaptation was just 2 volumes from the original work, it felt so packed you would think its like the double Really can't wait for season 2!!!!! |

| Aw little Maomao looks so precious. I'm glad things wrapped up nicely in the end with a resolution between Lakan and Fengxian. Maomao's dance was sweet. So is her ongoing playful relationship with Jinshi lol. So excited for a second season! |

| A very good finale to close what has been a great mystery-drama series to follow for the past six months alongside Frieren. Loved the dance as a whole and it did a good job in painting Maomao's image of Lakan in a clearer light for all, and giving Lakan his moment with Fengxian after being away from her after all this time based on what he revealed about his past in the previous episode. Not the most dramatic finale but still a satisfying one nonetheless, and once again, that dance just hooked me in from start to finish underneath the starry sky. Overall, the show did have some slower episodes that had me feeling a bit indifferent and was contemplating giving it an 8 based on that, but the fact that the series connected the more weaker episodes and still made it key as a whole part of the story rather than just being completely throwaway, and the finale being as nice as it was bumped it up to a 9 for me. Maomao's definitely one of the best anime protagonists I've seen in a while and she made the series what it was, and it was a joy to watch her throughout. The setting was fascinating and truly fitting for a series like this, the elements of politics was interesting here and little mysteries connecting to a bigger puzzle made it quite a thought-provoking watch. It was a story fitting for its time, and was brutally honest in what it was from the beautiful elements to the more disturbing elements underneath the surface. There might be some decent/okay episodes that look better in hindsight, but when this series was serious about its big moments, the peaks were very high and great to watch. And even the rest of the episodes still happened to be very good-great despite a couple okay ones so I can't complain too much about how the final product has turned out. Good to see another season be announced for this next year and I think that has strong potential to be even better than this one. |

| Maomao's story is still CONTINUING. The final episode was very beautiful. Maomao and Jinshi also still do romantic things. I like Maomao who always teases Jinshi like that. Lakan, what a guy. It's nice to see him happy. And also Meimei I also feel happy that she will be bought soon. It's also nice that there are no more conflicts or cases now. So, we will meet again next year.  |

| And so we end with the long-awaited reunion of Maomao's biological parents, a dance by starlight, and a promise of more cases to come. Well I was obviously confused by something during this last arc. For some reason I thought Lakan was working with the mysterious force that attempted to assassinate Jinshi, but clearly that wasn't true. Dunno how I missed that lol. Anyway I enjoyed this. It took me a bit to warm up to Maomao's at time cold and abrasive personality, but I think once I realized this was first and foremost a detective series it became easier. I wouldn't say I ever loved it, the 8.88 score currently on here seems absurdly high to me, but it was a solid 7/10 viewing experience and if you liked it better than that more power to ya. I'll watch season 2 if I'm still alive and able when it releases. |

| I need to re-watch to make sure that is given a reason why was hidden the fact that Fengxian was there. I thought Lakan didn't bought her because of political appearances, but kinda looks like he would had bought her, if he knew she was there. I don't know. I hope now Maomao leg is healed. |

Honestly I'm not sure what the point has been of the Lakan redemption arc these past few episodes. He's a vile despicable wretch that's only been horrible to those around him, just look at his interactions with Jinshi back when we first saw him. Nothing can erase the pain he's done. I feel like this story is trying to send the message of forgive your parents for the bad things they did to you as a kid. Which is absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous. Lakan made his bed now he needs to lay in it, he's awful and nothing can repair that. I hope that Maomao never talks to him or even mentions his name the entire rest of the story. This show was pretty good until the the last episodes of this first season. I enjoyed seeing Maomao flourish in the inner palace of the emperor as she caught the eye of Jinshi. Bringing her so called dad into the mix just made things insufferable. I hated any scene with him or any storyline trying to explain away his awful actions. This author needs to stick with medicinal espionage instead of inter familial relationships became their sense of the latter is warped beyond repair. Season two next year better not show that crustacean ever again.

| Legit in awe how they managed to completely flip my perception of a "hated" character by the finale. I even thought Lakan seeing everyone as game pieces as him looking down on them instead of the actual disorder it is, and the go match got me a little emotional. Jinshi picking Maomao in a football carry before transitioning to a princess carry is funnier than it should be lol |

| @ssjokg Since you seem to have a good understanding of the story, I have a question: Why did Lakan leave Fengxian for roughly 15 (?) years alone at the Verdigris House? If he thought she was dead, who told him that and kept him in the dark for all those years? Was it the old lady who runs the brothel? (She did smack him with a broom) Was it because Fengxian asked her to tell him that, out of hatred for the man who abandoned her? Why was the owner lady OK with Lakan buying Fengxian now? Isn't it messed up to sell Fengxian now that her mind is mostly gone due to syphilis, so that she doesn't have a say about this? If Lakan knew Fengxian had a baby, then why didn't he do anything about his own child, and let Luomen raise her? Was it guilt and shame? If so, why did he ask Maomao to come live with him only now, after leaving her with Luomen for 17 (?) years? Or was he denied custody by Luomen? It's tragic what happened to Lakan and Fengxian 17 years ago, but Lakan's actions since then (and to a lesser degree, Fengxian's) have been pretty careless and irresponsible. (A less important question is, how did Fengxian remain at the Verdigris House as basically an invalid for 15 years? We were told time and time again that the pleasure district is a harsh place where women are cast out if they can't make money. Fengxian herself was forced to become a common prostitute after she gave birth. Was it Luomen and Maomao who paid for the expenses all those years? Was this mentioned?) |
| So as much of a strategist Lakan is, Fengxian is at the same level (if not more) as Maomao explained how she planned her pregnancy. Also, I thought Lakan was going to buy her out from the get go but I didn't realize he didn't know she was available until Meimei opened the door, nice assist. Towards the end of this episode I actually thought Maomao was going to kiss Jinshi... until she opened her mouth and asked for the ox bezoar lol (yeah that headbutt was deserved). Anyway, this episode was great and so was this anime as a whole, and I'm looking forward to the 2nd season 👍 9/10 |
