| Even if I absolutely love Ufotable´s takes on the Fate-series, Shaft actually really impressed me. It just took me a couple of minutes to adapt. The storyline and male MC seems much better than the latest try, Apocrypha. The fight scenes looked really good, and even if it they just shared a breif moment, I think the dynamic between Saber and Hakuno felt promising. Hakuno also feels like a much more interesting character compared to Shirou and Sieg. Looking forward to the rest. Anyone who knows how many episodes it will be? |

| Some of the posts on here are unbelievable in order to justify the utter nonsense of the first episode. Obviously us non Fate fanboys dont understand the high level writing in this series. According to some is MEANT to be confusing as its all part of the authors masterplan. Total and utter bollocks. The level of arrogance is staggering in order to defend Fate and the writer despite confusing mess of a first episode. The Fate fandom is something else. |

| I've never exactly been a Shaft fanboy but come on they can do so much better than this. Can't recall the last time I saw Shaft make visuals that look this poor. Seriously wtf is up with the character designs, they look horrible. It's just not just about getting away from Ufotable's standards: we've had both DEEN, Silver Link, A1 and even Lay-duce animate various shows from the Fate universe before as well and quite frankly they've all been better than this. Well maybe not DEEN's F/SN but that's from 2006 so what do you expect, but otherwise.. |

| hmmm...was an okay episode; not awesome, but not too bad bit confusing, but on the other hand the 1st episode of Steins;Gate was even more confusing, so I personally need to see more to judge the show did not like the visuals (except maybe the fight scene with Buddha, but even that one wasn't that great as Zero/UBW/Apocrypha visuals) |
| I'm surprised there seems to be so much negativity about this first episode, I thought it was a job well done. While it was confusing I also thought it was intriguing for the most part and I'm certainly interested to see more. Why do people seem to expect that everything must be spelled out for them at the very first episode anyway? I seriously don't understand it. The Shaft style is not for everyone but I thought it it fit the mood of the story, and I look forward to see in what direction they will take this Fate adaptation. I also know very little about Fate/Extra so my opinion is not based on expectations of any kind, so I can only wonder what's in store for us. It's amusing to see alternate versions of familiar characters and I'm curious about this specific aspect of the story as well. |
| Sure, this episode didn't make enormous amounts of sense, but despite that it's still already way more interesting than Apocrypha ever was, and I'm interested to see where the plot goes from here (and how much Shaft can go crazy with the visuals, as usual). Only real complaint is that some of the character designs (most notably Rin's and Red Saber's) are absolutely horrible, and Red Saber's (or whoever she actually is) voice is really weird as well. |
| I'm feeling cautiously optimistic so far, they changed a lot from the original game and I'm not quite sure if it's for the better or worse yet, I'm leaning a bit towards the latter but it's still the first episode so we gotta wait and see what happens, I liked that they seem to be doing a better job foreshadowing the ending at least, I remember that being one of Nasu's concerns when he did Extella Zero and a big flaw of Extra so it's good seeing it addressed, although I'm not a huge fan of how the overall prologue was handled, the game did a better job at that Also I'm kinda disappointed the MC isn't Hakunon but we already knew that for months now, I hope her role in this is interesting at least and not just a flash forward of a "failed or game over" run so to speak |

| I'm still kind of green to the Fate series, but what is "Extella/Zero"? |
| I've played FATE/EXTELLA on steam and beat the Flame Poem Arc on Steam so far. (Game is okay if you like Dynasty Warrior type of game as fate servants basically) Gotta get back to finishing the other routes and side story stuff. I haven't played Fate/extra but read some summary on it a long time ago but forgot most of it tbh so I'm feeling a little lost for this episode. So this anime is covering the first game? Which is before the events of FATE/EXTELLA on steam right? Happy to see Saber I really liked her in FATE/EXTELLA. Art looked a little weird to me but otherwise first episode was good. Shinji being a piece of shit as always. |

| So... after rewatching the episode a few times. I realized the reason why Hakuno was able to walk despite taking so much punishment... actually the reason should be quite obvious to the Fate/Extra players and it will be cleared for newcomers in future plot point in the anime...What I can assure you is that this was not an oversight but a clever nod to the players, So major spoilers below for newcomers who want to play the game in future as well as possible future spoilers |

Mind elaborating on this a little more? The game's prologue was one of the best parts of the game and showed a great deal of promise and intrigue. The game's gameplay and structure squanders the pacing and some of the potential, sure, but as far as the prologue is concerned, it was done perfectly. Last Encore's prologue shows even more potential and intrigue and manages to be even more shocking than that twist in the game with so much more background, characters and story delivered in a much MUCH smaller time frame. If I were to rate the prologue in the game, I'd give it a 3~3.5/5. This show's prologue gets a 5/5 with flying colors. |
| "WHY DON'T I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING AFTER THE FIRST EPISODE" This is what some of you sound like. I'm a Fate/Extra veteran, so I get the premise of what's going on. The subs could have been better but thanks Netflix. Despite Extra's faults, I'm actually pretty excited for what's to come. It's plainly obvious that this is an original scenario at this point, and while the premise is the same there's definitely a few things that seem... off. I've got a few ideas but I wouldn't be surprised if a certain nun has already appeared for one. Either way, it's the first time in a long time I don't know what's going to happen in a Fate anime. I'm kind of excited. I enjoyed Shaft's personal touch on the series too. |
