In the distant future, individuals who adore the old way of life live in Kowloon Walled City—a slum city that serves as a refuge for those who long for the Hong Kong of the past. Realtor Reiko Kujirai, however, craves for the new and exciting places in the area. In contrast, her only coworker, Hajime Kudou, enjoys the nostalgia the city invokes and is put off by anything modern that seeps past its walls. But despite their differing views and constant bickering on the most mundane of things, the two often find themselves enjoying each other's company. One day, a prank gone wrong leads Hajime to make an unexpected advance toward Reiko, after which he swiftly apologizes for. Baffled by his actions, Reiko starts investigating for possible explanations, only to discover a past that she has no memory of. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Deep within the maze-like high-rise slums of Kowloon Walled City, there resides a flesh-eating monster known as a jiangshi that goes by the name of Ma-Fu. These destructive creatures were almost driven to extinction by the Taoists—individuals who specialize in dealing with them. But unlike the rest of his kind, Ma-Fu was spared from death at the hands of Gannon, the most powerful Taoist to ever exist, and was sealed away within Kowloon instead. Four decades later, Gannon's disciple En appears in the walled city in search of Ma-Fu, now a jaded, filthy shell of his former self. Learning that Gannon has died, Ma-Fu is initially ecstatic about the news but becomes annoyed when he learns Gannon himself had requested that Ma-Fu be in attendance at his funeral. As En forces himself into Ma-Fu's shabby abode to prepare it for the funeral, the jiangshi begins to question why he was spared extermination all those years ago. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Manhua, 1970 Publishing ? vol, ? chp

Oriental Heroes is a popular Hong Kong-based manhua created by Wong Yuk Long, a writer/artist responsible for also creating a number of other popular manhua titles. It was created in 1970, and it continues to be published today. The book was the first Hong Kong manhua title based on action and fighting, often borrowing from the wuxia literary world. It established a new action genre of Hong Kong manhua and spawned many imitators. The theme of its stories often revolve around brotherhood and the fight for justice. The 2006 movie Dragon Tiger Gate was based on this manhua. Oriental Heroes is the book's official English name. Its Chinese name is pronounced in Cantonese, Lùhng Fú Mùhn (simplified Chinese: 龙虎门; traditional Chinese: 龍虎門; pinyin: Lóng Hǔ Mén). This name translates as "Dragon Tiger Gate" in English, and is in reference to the name of the fictional kungfu school and organization that is a major subject matter in the book. Oriental Heroes was first published in 1970 under the title Little Rascals (traditional Chinese: 小流氓; Cantonese Yale: Síu Làuh Màhn). It featured stories about young people living in public housing estates in Hong Kong fighting gangsters and criminals. The heroes of the stories exhibited antisocial behaviours, but routinely fought for justice. In the early years of the book's run, the fighting was very graphically illustrated. Various weapons were used, where spilled blood, internal organs, guts, and bones were shown in the injuries that the characters sustained. People criticised the graphic violence depicted in Oriental Heroes and other similar action genre manhua, eventually leading to the enactment of the Indecent Publication Law in 1975, banning explicit violence in manhua.
