Very cool robots, technology, and problem-solving ruined by a boring love triangle.

Fantasy mecha usually sucks because it doesn't focus on technology enough and has the most generic RPG setting, and this is no exception.

Generic sex junk anime with two good episodes and some decent ships and mecha.

You think it's a mecha anime with cool future police vehicles, but you get fooled into watching a generic police procedural. The Kuromukuro/G-Witch of its time.

Nonsensical story that gets praised for its animation and being a "realistic hard sci-fi military grunt anime".

Not the worst mecha anime in the world, but not the best one either. It's not a "deconstruction of mecha anime" or particularly dark or character-focused for mecha anime; Gundam, Ideon, and Zambot did what Evangelion did before Eva, so there's no need to be pretentious about it.

I have no idea why pretentious fans glommed onto the Getter OVAs, but they did, and while the Getter OVAs can be cool (Shin vs Neo is amazing for introducing a new Getter design), they're ultimately popcorn shows and there are better popcorn shows out there. The manga is better too.

Another "unlike most mecha this one is about the characters" show, even though it's just a generic battle shonen with mecha flavoring and school hijinks.

TTGL has the issue fantasy mecha does in that it doesn't focus enough on the technology. TTGL is ultimately beloved for being a 2000s Shonen Jump show with a condensed runtime and over-the-top action; there are better hot-blooded mecha shows out there.

This takes place in a literal school setting, has lolis, has plenty of ecchi, and the mecha aspects are based around fighting boring alien beasts.

Because Gundam needed to be a battle shonen, but with no original designs this time. Watch SRW playthroughs if you want your Gundam characters to cross over.

It introduces plenty of interesting ideas, but they all fall by the wayside for yuri bait. The show is not feminist or pro-gay at all because the characters are moe cardboard cutouts.

A cool robot, but its story is very surface-level and unexplored, and it's not very earnest.
