Actual Representation
Anime
Various types of series that involve some sort of LGBT representation, be it in characters, relationships, plots, etc.
Includes: Gay/Lesbian/Homosexual, Trans Characters, Gender Non-Comformists, etc.
I got tired of half-baked representation and shitty ass plots slapped with a rep label on it.
Removed 10/7/23: Versailles no Bara.

I did a rewatch of this recently, and it is rather boring. However, I did use to think of it as a 7/10, and I do believe many would find this to be a good story. Still decent rep.

Nothing to write home about in my opinion, but it's a cute lesbian slice of life romance. It has a run time of less than an hour, so I'm not gonna be overly critical of it, it does what it needs to.

Same as parent series. While I've rated this low, the OG is geared towards a younger audience while this isn't as much. Watch whichever suits your fancy, or don't.

Yuka is gender-fluid, or non-binary? I'm not sure which, but regardless they are not cis and present/identify with femme and masc traits. This is expressed through their art and clothing.

Ah, the magical girl of magical girl animes. Touya, Sakura's brother, is bisexual. They removed the explicitness that was in the manga, however in said manga Tomoyo Daidoji has unrequited feelings for the MC. The implication is there, but not as nail-on-the-head present. Ruby Moon doesn't have a gender even if presenting as female.

"Do people like it because it's representation?"
This is a stupid question, often seen. It is thoughtful, and takes care in writing a pair of transgender children trying to find their way through life. It's important, well thought rep.

Alluka Zoldyck is considered trans due to previously being referred to with he/him, later being used with she/her. Regardless on if she is trans or not, the character would still be GNC. I stand by the trans sentiment though.

This one I didn't immediately add, as there was some backtracking that was attempted on the 2 MCs relationship. While I do not wish to spoil, I consider this to be confirmed and canon at this point. The 2 main girls are in a lesbian relationship, and it starts with them in a sort of fake/arranged/consented to marriage. It's hard to explain, but this is a very good (and refreshing) mecha show with good characters, organic relationships, and fun as fuck action.

This is one of those ones I've included that doesn't use the rep as a plot point. While our MC is AFAB (assigned female at birth), throughout the series we see this character use both masculine and feminine pronouns. It makes the show feel organic, as it's not the focus of the show, it just is part of Kino.

Not gonna lie, I didn't really like this one. However, there's GNC/cross-dressing and trans things going on. I'll be honest, I didn't pay too much attention to this particular series, but I read reviews to make sure I wasn't tripping.

Disregarding fruity subtext and fanon ideas, Haruhi herself is GNC and has stated not caring about pronouns/perception of gender.
Note: This series is out-dated. The english dub does use the T-Slur towards Haruhi's father. It was not as recognised/shamed as a slur in 2000s-2010s as it is now, but there is your warning.

Another instance where the consensus is several characters are fruity. Having said that, there is a canon implication of Langa having feelings for Reki in a conversation with his mother.

This short movie covers the relationship of 2 men. I adore the color pallet, and the characters, as well as the potential. But, I think this would've faired much better as a series, instead of a movie. I appreciate that this series tackles homophobia from ones own family, and how it can influence you through life, but I dislike all the time skips and how we are fed information through random flash backs.

Sawaki Momoe is a woman that other women crush on. She's also technically GNC, which is sometimes considered to be under the queer umbrella. This series also features an episode with a FTM trans character. While I personally ended up very much disliking this series, I hear it still get pretty good praise.

Again, didn't like this one, however I still know it's pretty well liked. "Sexual liberation" does indeed imply fan-service, yes, but it isn't erotica. Thus, I give it credit that it's simply just anime doing anime fan service shit and not sexualizing yuri relationships. The symbolism was bad in my opinion, but yet again I say someone else will probably like it.
