Underrated manga to read in 2024
Manga
Some manga that I believe deserve more attention in 2024. I will be adding titles as the year goes on. I have my personal description and opinions posted for each series featured here. I could write tons more about each series, but I tried to keep them somewhat short.

A super cute little manga about a world where electricity has been almost completely abandoned. It follows Erio, a girl who can discharge electricity from her body, and Angie, an electric doll who more or less raised Erio after her parents died in the war. It has really nice art, and it has some very interesting themes regarding an artificial intelligence's perception of human emotion. It thankfully got picked up by translators again, so it's a pretty good time to give it a chance.

A manga that makes smoking cool!!! It follows a middle aged office worker who's only reprieve is seeing his favorite cashier at the local convenience store. He eventually ends up smoking at the back of the store with another employee of the store and they hit it off. Not gonna say much more to avoid being long winded, but it's a very nice series.

There isn't too too much to say yet, especially without spoiling the little bit that we've seen. I will say the art is quite pretty and the concept is definitely interesting. Though, the concept could get generic and boring very quickly, so I look forward to seeing what the series does with it. It's super short right now. The first volume seems to be out in Japanese with english chapters being released monthly.

If I had to recommend a single series on this list, it'd probably be this one. It's kinda carried by just the main girl in my opinion. I mostly look forward to seeing what she does. The series has amazing art. I love the style and the direction, especially on the color pages. It's in this dystopian world where artificial beings known as "gijins" serve humans and are treated horribly. We are shown, however, that gijins possess sentience and are acutely aware of what is being done to them, but they are powerless to stop it. I could say more, but you should just read it for yourself at this point.

This series ended up being more than I expected it to. I kinda assumed it would be a gag series about a "loser hot girl" and have a bunch of creep shots. While the girl is shown in her undergarments a lot, it comes of more pathetic than anything. It actually does a decent job portraying her as a "doomer" for a lack of a better term. It's got some somewhat relatable stuff in there. It's nothing special, but it's fine for a quick read in between other stuff.

This is another one I greatly recommend. The art is stunning, and the story is great. I don't want to say too much about the main character because I'd have to spoil the fantastic first chapter, so I'll talk a bit about the story instead. There are a lot of themes questioning the morality the leaders of their world of magic has imposed. It has a very believable progression in the abilities of the main characters. It's hard to talk about this one without revealing anything about the story, so I'll leave it here.
