People fighting bare handed, without weapons or armor.
Bucchigiri?!
TV, 2024, 12 eps Me:- Author:7
For better and for worse, it's like an older 90's early 2000's fighting anime set in high school. They go all the way, it's cringey, but in a good way most of the time. It's a wimp getting possed by a honki spirit, basically a majin. He gets roped into fights and gangs, and he's a huge simp for a girl who outright hates him and just wanted to see him get beat up by her older brother. The whole thing's weird, there's a lot of gay jokes, and everything has an arabian nights theme. The art's good, and there's some good animation.

Most importantly, they introduced the term honki people, which is apparently some kind of middle eastern term. Overall I'd say it's pretty good, but it's not for everyone. One of the few fighting anime set in high school without some kind of fan service, which is an accomplishment I guess.

Dragon Ball
TV, 1986, 153 eps Me:- Author:8
One of the best fighting anime, and especially when you get into hand to hand combat. It was inspired by kung fu movies and journey to the west. It starts out as more of an adventure and gag manga, but becomes more of a serious fighting anime, but still with some humor.

They focus a lot on training too, the anime expands on the training and some of the other characters that'd I'd strongly recommend this over the manga. But it doesn't feel like filler, it feels like it's being filled in and made even better.
Dragon Ball Z
TV, 1989, 291 eps Me:- Author:8
Less focus on training, but there's still some, but they tend to use powerups and transformations more than training, too much really. Less focus on hand to hand fighting, and more use of energy beams. It's still a great show, and there's still good fighting here, but it's very different from dragon ball.

The difference between this and dragon ball kai. This has a lot of filler, and changes some things from the manga. Some of it's boring, some of it's just really annoying, they ruin some characters like chichi. But some of the filler's good, expanding on the training or adventures in the early saiyan ark and snakeway.

On the other hand, the music's way better in this show, some of the voice acting is also better, depending on the version you watch too, and and some of the extra stuff does make it better. Some things can drag out too much though.

If you value the music and the voice acting, and you like the idea of extra content, some of being good, and you're willing to tolerate some of the other content, and having some things drag out, then you could watch this first.
Dragon Ball Kai
TV, 2009, 97 eps Me:- Author:8
Less focus on training, but there's still some, but they tend to use powerups and transformations more than training, too much really. Less focus on hand to hand fighting, and more use of energy beams. It's still a great show, and there's still good fighting here, but it's very different from dragon ball.

The difference between this and dragon ball z, is this follows the manga more closely, with less filler and changes to the story. Some of the filler was good, some of it wasn't. They don't do anything really negative with characters like chichi, but she's also barely in the show.

The music and some of the voice acting is also much worse in this version. If you just want a concise version that follows the manga more closely, then watch this instead of dragon ball z.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly
Movie, 2018, 1 ep Me:- Author:7
This is one of, if not the best dragon ball z or dragon ball super movie. The fight's good, the animation, the art, the music. It's worth watching even if you're not a big fan of dragon ball super. Though again, when you get to dragon ball super, read the manga, don't watch the anime. It'll tell you when to stop reading in the manga to watch the movie.
Yuu☆Yuu☆Hakusho
TV, 1992, 112 eps Me:- Author:7
A good amount of fighting and training. They unfortunately skip some of the spirit detective work and get more into the training, and the fighting in the dark tournament. It's a great show, with actually good, likeable characters. If you want to watch a show about a demonic fighting tournament, watch this. It's also worth picking up the manga at some point.
Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi
TV, 2006, 50 eps Me:- Author:-
I'm gonna be honest man, I haven't gotten through the first few episodes. But I've heard it gets good eventually. It's also free on youtube legally if you want to watch it.

(note to self, write more after actually watching this show.)
Hajime no Ippo
TV, 2000, 75 eps Me:- Author:7
The best boxing or sports anime I've ever seen. It's a great boxing anime, and it's worth giving a try if you're not normally into boxing, or if someone's not normally into anime really. If you like rocky you'll probably like this. The fights and the characters are great, even the techniques like the dempsey roll are good, it's not a hundred percent realistic, but it's not as absurd as something like dragon ball or even grappler baki.

It's about as grounded as it can be while also being entertaining, and it's got some good character development for the other characters.

Grappler Baki (TV)
TV, 2001, 24 eps Me:- Author:7
It's absurd, but the character's won't be using energy beams or anything like that. It takes realistic fighting techniques and workouts and makes it as absurd as possible. It's gritty and dark, but also ridiculous. The series starts out with baki as a child, and you see him grow and get stronger as the series goes on. I strongly recommend watching this series.

If you're wondering why there's a giant gorrila on the cover, it's because he trains in a forest and beats up a giant gorrila.
Grappler Baki: Saidai Tournament-hen
TV, 2001, 24 eps Me:- Author:7
A continuation of the series, with baki a bit older, taking part in an underground martial arts tournament. It's good, if you like the previous season you'll like this.
Baki
ONA, 2018, 26 eps Me:- Author:5
It's still good, they're fighting escaped convicts who use weapons. Overall I'd say this part is okay, and it does follow the manga pretty closely.
Baki: Dai Raitaisai-hen

Ikkitousen
TV, 2003, 13 eps Me:- Author:1
They skip fights. They'll really just skip fights in this fighting show. Not recommended.

Other than that, there's not really much training or anything either. It's just a bunch of panty shots really. Don't expect any good action like kill la kill though, it's just kinda bad, the premise is sort of interesting but it's not executed very well. There are more parts of this series, but they're not worth taking up a spot on this list. I've only put it here to tell you not to bother watching it.
Tenjou Tenge
TV, 2004, 24 eps Me:- Author:-
I'll have to rewatch it, but from what I remember, there was at least a bit of training, so it's better than ikkitousen.
Saint Seiya
TV, 1986, 114 eps Me:- Author:6
They're kind of in magic outfits, but it's also dependent on your spiritual power, so I guess it counts as a honki anime. It's a good eighties shonen fighting anime. It's got some good art too. Definitely watch this instead of the remakes or the live action movies.
Kidou Butouden G Gundam
TV, 1994, 49 eps Me:- Author:6
They're in robots, but the robot fighting feels like honki fighting. Technically cheating, but they're both in robots. I haven't seen this since I was a kid, but from what I remember they fought themselves. They're in a suit floating in the gundam, so they're actually doing the moves themselves. This is my favorite interpretation of gundams, I prefer it over teenagers crying in a cockpit and crying about politics and everything. It's the best gundam show. At least from what I remember when I was a child.

I will probably rewatch it at some point, and I'll update this part when I do. There's a tournament where countries have their own gundam and fighter representing them. So for the most part, it's a fighting tournament anime, just with gundams. It's good.
